SCREENSHOT SCHMEENSHOT

Looks nice macubex. I too agree that the facesets look great.
Thanks for the comments. The facesets are Illusionists, I had my own custom style but I liked hers more because they were much more fitting.

Sorry for posting the same screen but I updated the message box. Someone requested that I change it. I tried adding frames to the facesets but it was unnecessary. I also started animating a few of the facesets, I do not really plan on doing them all though.

...what is that big orb?
It's a mood orb. It tells you the mood of who ever you are talking to and the colors adjusts accordingly. Also, if you leave the message box open for 20 seconds a number will appear on the orb. This number is indicates the sum of all the messages displayed so far in the game.

WIP the orb means nothing and is completely abstract. I thought that was clear... :(. I'll change around the message box later, thanks for pointing that out.

Haha, that's pretty weird! is that actually suppose to serve a purpose in the game?
@Sam: I think I'm seeing pokemon tilesets...It reminds me of old times. I'm not saying pokemon's bad or anything. I enjoyed it a lot in the past.

Just another "tantalizing glimpse" of the world of Everything Turns Gray. Expect a lot more in the next 48 hours.
Doesn't look very post-apocalyptic... maybe it's all the grass.
Also, that's some really stupid-looking hair.

Ouch! Seems kind of like somebody's in a bad mood.

Anyway, it looks post-apoclayptic to me. The grass is yellowed and dying- hard to tell because everything is very desaturated (see the name of the game) but again that works in the favor of the appearance. Also I am not crazy about that hair either (that's just one of eight possible appearances for the main character so it's not that big of a deal) but since I'm not a spriter, I had to make do with what was available.

Maybe you'll like this one better or some of the 100+ screens you'll be seeing tomorrow will do it for you. We aim to please.

Wooo! SPAM! And fake tim-tams. ^.^ Personal joke.
That aside, it doesn't look too bad, but perhaps some kind of ruined walls in that last screen instead of just missing ones would look better. I like the general saturation, though.
Hey, just makin' an observation.
That screen DOES look better, though. The only real gripe I have is with the trees; they're too small in compariosn to everything else. Though in your defense, mixing tiles from other games with VX RTP chipsets would be hard to do. Really hard.
Max, have you thought about ditching RTP and going with some good tiles or panoramas from 2D PC games? I can tell that you don't really like the RTP but you stick with what you've got. It's probably very possible to compile a map using Fallout graphics (or any other game like it) and making it fit into RMVX resolutions. That may be a pain to pull off, though. But there has to be some resources out there.

Nice job with what you've got. The desaturated look helps a lot. The hair reminds me of the Raiders from Fallout.

Neophyte, I know it doesn't show all that much in those two screens, but less than 50% of the tiles used in Everything Turns Gray are RTP. Most of them in fact are rips from Fallout 2 and other PC titles.

Hopefully you will see what I mean tomorrow.

Oh, and the raiders in Fallout 3 is exactly what I was going for with that hair style.

Haha, no I was just playing around. WIP just asked a question I had no answer for.

Edit:

Max, it's looks pretty good, the graphics don't really turn me off. I'm not a big fan of VX at all so the fact that your game is playable in my eyes is a good thing.

You should really do the mood orb thing. The Dragon Tear in BoF2 was interesting and I've never seen another game use that kind of idea.
Cities in Hero's Realm

As part of my something for Release Something! Day V, I released maps of the cities and villages in Hero's Realm. Here is a sampling of them (please excuse the strange tiling - the program I used to generate screens is a little wonky):

Aleksandria:

This is the capital city of a desert country. I modified the RTP with a recolor.

Bombomb:

This is a castle city surrounded by a moat. The rooftops are accessible and the moat can be navigated.

Cidney:

A riverside desert city. Like Bombomb, the rooftops are accessible.

Kaybee:

A little seaside village, just to show that not all centers in the game are cities.

Marx:

A walled city.

Paranor:

The starting point for Chapter 5. This is the Guru stronghold in Cadana.

Port Kells:

A port city where you can secure a ship.

Queensbridge:

Inspired by the song London Bridges.

Remus:

A coastal city with a university on the island. You need a skiff to get around. Some of the bridges are events, so they didn't show up on this screenshot.

San Vegas:

This city has a coliseum for gambling.

Skatmandu:

A mountain retreat.

Tortuga:

Finally, a seaside town.

It is a good idea, but probably suffers the exact same problem BoF2 had: there was no way to tell WTF any of the colors meant. Could anyone off the top of their head tell me what orange meant?

As long as it is defined in the game somehow, it would be great.
