Are there any people in joining together for an RPG Maker projects? How do people work together on these anyways?

Have you ever completed a game before?

*Edit: I don't pretend to know how many threads I've seen (like the ones linked above) that ask for a team that lead absolutely nowhere because the "lead" is little more than an Ideas Guy that has little-to-no experience actually putting things together, and provide little-to-no impetus for people to actually join in the project.

Marrend as always having all the helpful links.

But yeah, tl;dr:
Get to know some peeps and then hope you can start a game together, everyone needs to work on the game, otherwise it falls apart.
No, I have never completed a game. Although I have made countless attempts, but then end up quitting in the end. I havn't even managed to create a demo even. I was wondering if anybody online is interested in a virtual team up. I'm sure most games, even demos, have been made by more than one person. I assume most of them have met up in real life. I was thinking of doing so virtually. I am currently practicing RPGMZ. I have a lot of ideas and I want to make an episodic game with two long episodes or many shorter ones.

Practically any given game on this website proves this statement false.

I assume most of them have met up in real life.

I can only speak of my own limited experience in this matter, but, of the games where I have teamed up with others, the communications line was done with/over Quick Topic. Don't try visiting Quick Topic, that website is dead now.

Oh, maybe during Pal-Let's Make! was over the server's Discord chat server. However, I've never met any of my team members in real life, to the best of my knowledge.

No, I have never completed a game.

I have a lot of ideas and I want to make an episodic game with two long episodes or many shorter ones.

So, put these two together, and what we have here? You're an Ideas Guy with zero experience, and, so far, are providing zero impetus for people to want to team up with you in any respect. Why should people be wiling to give you their free time, and what expertise they can bring, when all you bring to the table are ephemeral "ideas"? No, you need to bring something valuable to the team as well.

Sorry if I'm coming off a bit harsh here, but, I've seen this way too many times, and am absolutely seeing the pattern of team-project-doomed-to-failure here.

*Edit: Actually, there are site rules about asking for others to work with you that I've got a saved post for.

https://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/25376/?post=911066#post911066
Please follow the rules!

When requesting for someone's help:

1) Be specific in your request, and give examples where relevant.
If it's a request for a resource, give a brief description of what you're looking for and be patient. Do not bump the thread it incessantly.

2) If you're hiring for a project, you'll need to be very thorough.
Give examples of your previous work, a link to images/information on the game, and tell us why we should care. Remember, you're trying to sell the project to people - they won't help you if they are uninterested. Also specify incentives/payment for helping with the project, if you are willing to give any. I have noticed a problem with these sorts of topics - IF YOU DO NOT CONFORM TO THESE RULES, YOUR TOPIC WILL BE LOCKED.

If you are requesting for someone else to help you make a project:

If you have just joined this site and do not know anyone, chances are that people are not going to respond to requests to make a project with you. Most people here are very busy with their own projects are not going to accommodate a random person they do not know. Your best chance is to network; get to know people, make friends, express interest in other peoples' projects, and provide feedback. Once people know who you are, they are much more likely to respond amiably to your requests, especially if you have done something to help them in the past.

These are the rules for this:
When asking for aid you MUST include at least as much information as someone who is creating a game page.

For those seeking help there must be:
- At least 500 words describing the game - what you're aiming for, game genre, story summary, systems planned, anything that will draw people in out of interest and what plans you have for the game itself. If you can't meet the word limit you don't have enough information to go looking for people to make the game with.
- 3+ screenshots of what you have so far or what you're capable of.
- Precise details about what you're looking for in people - what type of skills (mappers, writers, animators, musicians, etc); the skill level (beginner, advanced, professional); what you're looking to get out of them (a few sprites, 20 maps, an estimate of songs); what, if anything, you're willing to pay/recompense them with (nothing, monetary reward, t-shirts, something from the RMN store); the estimated amount/length of work (a few weeks, a couple of months, a year, until end of development).
- Past pieces of work, if applicable. This can be in the vein of written works, art, story boarding, games (even just flash ones) or anything that can show you have some sort of skill and the level of such.
- What you're willing to give in recompense. Is this a paid job? Is it an offer of some kind of service in return for the work? Do you expect free work?

In the case that a thread doesn't abide by these rules I will ask that it be updated. If after 48 hours it hasn't been, then I will move said topic to the Archives. I will not lock, so that the creator has the chance to edit and once edited, they may contact Liberty via PM and, if it meets the new rules, it will be moved back to the correct area.

In the case of rejection, topic spam will be met with warnings and/or bans, as per the site rules.
I have already cancelled a game here :
https://rpgmaker.net/games/11880/

The only project I started so far was just for practice. I havn't named any specific game ideas. Some of the screenshots in the above game were added less than a month ago. I am mostly asking for advice, mostly about getting started and planning the game, and where to start. I would think a few of the games here were made by more than one person, as they can be quite advanced at times.

I don't know why your so angry at me for.

When I collab, it's usually spur of the moment, usually in a jam, usually, a bunch of us are already talking about it, and we all know who each other are and what each of us are doing. In that situation, I just have to know that you know what you're doing and that we can all work together. Then there's the collab I'm currently on for a more dedicated project where I didn't know the person, but I love his games, and was really excited to give him a hand.

Basically, if I know you and you know your style and we all want to work on something together, let's go.
If I don't know you, if I can at least see you delivering, no promises, but I'll consider it.

Now, if you offer money, well...that's a whole other conversation.
I think the responses here are a bit harsh, but then again I haven't had to deal with multiple instances of attempted team projects that end up getting cancelled, and if I was in that situation I'd be much more skeptical and critical.

Having said that, I also don't see anywhere that you've actually asked someone to collaborate, and from your initial post it sounds like you're just wondering what the process is like, rather than outright asking someone to work with you. So I might be viewing this post from s different lens.

However, whether you're looking for perspective on how to go about collaborating with someone, or actually petitioning for that help here and now, I will say this: Build a portfolio first. Have a few completed games under your belt. No one will take anyone asking for a collaborative project seriously if they haven't shown a) that they can follow through on a project and b) that they actually have valuable skills to bring to the table. Solo projects don't have to be amazingly complex and beautiful. They don't even have to be good. But they're absolutely necessary for polishing your skills and your REPUTATION, which is what most people look at before they agree to invest their time and resources into you.

I'll say it again, before collaborating, build a portfolio. Half a dozen 1/2 hour long games are miles better than 100 cancelled projects. And if you're wondering about whether or not games can be completed and high quality while solo, look at my games profile. All my games are solo projects, and I (with a bias) will say that they bring good quality to the table. Or for that matter, almost anyone in this thread.

Anyway. Not mad here, hope this helps give some perspective.

I thought of that before. Since I donated on Discord a few months ago, I don't feel like doing that again at the moment.

Thanks for the help. Right now I only uploaded one project, but have cancelled projects several times before. All by myself, I only have little chances on completing a single project. I have some practicing to do, I have yet to complete testing my Steam resources. I was hoping to start on taking advice from others who are interested in custom RPGs. I have brought up the issue before and received some advice, but I still wonder if people are interested in collaborations just in general.

...

I think a good way to start is to join in one of the events we run on the site and ask if anyone wants/needs a team mate or try to make your own game (even if it only turns out to be a demo) so that people can see what skills you bring to the table. You can then point to that as an example of your abilities, and you'll also find yourself getting to know people here better - if people know you, they're more inclined to hear you out if you ask to team up for a game AND you'll get to know them, which means you'll know what THEY can do.

Knowing and being known helps a LOT in figuring out who to approach for help and that gives a much more personal element to asking than making a topic asking for a generic team up with anyone.

There's an event currently running, so offering to help out in the comments there, or trying to give it a shot yourself is a good first step.
Joining events is the best way to build your skills and get to work with potential partners for future projects.

Red Balloon of Happiness started as a single line post in the Halloween 2016 event:

"I have a short game idea and can program it but I lack the artistic skills to make it look good. Is there any artist looking for a team?"

By then I only completed one game and had another tech demo.

Avee joined first to draw the assets. He suggested Luiishu for the music. Luiishu then suggested Frogge for the voice acting. At the end of the event, we had a solid demo but the game ending was absent (sorry for your stream Liberty). All the assets, musics and voice recordings were done so I put 2 weeks of extra work to complete the game code because I wanted everyone's work to shine in the game.

People are more likely to join you when you can show your skills and when they know how much time they need to invest in the project (here: the duration of the event).

Sadly, i'm not fond of the current even right now. How frequently do they appear? What people are interested in teaming up next time?

There will definitely two events in June. One for Pride Month, and another event to celebrate RMN's 17th birthday. The birthday event last year had a sweets theme, but, in previous years, users have been asked to make games in under X or less hours, where X was how old RMN was turning. Perhaps some other limitations as well. I don't know if that is what's happening this year, but, if an event like that is being run, that'd translate to 17 hours of dev time.

What kind of games do they make there, if any? Are there any other places where people work together on RPG Maker games? I also participate on the Discord server for RPG Maker programs. I think it might be related to this site in particular. What about contests, are there any of those?
I might be willing to volunteer based on minimal info, but your DeviantArt is depressing. You have quite a few watchers, but very minimal work for how much you posted. Your game page is also a lot of red flags. You are promoting the existance of both physical and magical attacks as a selling point.
