I really like those percent bars! Something doesn't feel right about black color font in the second picture, though.

Try taking the shadow off of names and AP. It looks silly- I think that's what FAIF was trying to say. But yeah, looks good.

With the window-skin in that CMS (Raziel's Chrono Trigger CMS) white text was almost impossible to read, and the shadow helped to make the black more visible until the color changed to yellow/red from getting too low.

When I get time tonight I'll do a quick swap on the colors again (one with white one without shadows) and post that to see what you think.

Cast Aside was pretty cool from what I played of it. Really interesting concept and all. I'd be curious to see more progress on it, for sure.

That's a red ooze-pah! They warp you around to other places.

Blue ones are save points.
I'd suggest moving the tree one tile over to the left. You've got the hero covered a little.
Here's one with white text, and another with white text and no shadow, the black looks a bit odd I'll admit, but this looked way too washed out to me. :(



Morbid randomness:

So today I was messing around, trying to find a decent way to show height with a flat tileset from a strictly top-down perspective - grid squares getting hidden behind raised tiles is more of a pain in a straight perspective than in isometric. (Think strategy game here.)

Didn't work, I think. This is the best-looking version, sadly. There's meant to be a tall platform in the upper left (16h) and the tiles south of there make slopes/stairs of varying steepness. Looking around with a cursor you'd be able to see the exact height of any tile, this is mostly just to give an idea.



Investigation into other possibilities/sets of available graphics will continue. I may be able to use ika's layer offsets well enough. I wouldn't say I need height for anything in the near future, but it'd be handy to have the option.

Yeah, I noticed how that looked after I took the screen. He doesn't stay in that one spot, and the event can be triggered from either where he is standing or the tile above him so it isn't as bad as it looks. ;)

I actually had to look hard to figure out where the person was, the red slime is actually really distracting as the eye naturally goes straight to that.

Of course that might be completely different when playing the game since you'll have noticed the slime already and you'll know where your character is when you start the event.

I took an RM break for a while (like I always do...). I'm back for a little bit, so I decided to finish tweaking some of the main design aspects of the CMS. Lots of fading and smooth animations and such. I should make a video of it sometime.

Anyways, I guess I should start working on the game more than just it's systems.

EDIT: Awesome site, btw! I'll start posting on here, too, rather than just Township.

DF: I can't see your screenshot!

Malad: Definitely nice menu. Very clean.
Malad: Push the text over to the left, a little. Give "Party" some padding between it and the edge of the screen. Very straight-to-the-point. I like it.
The menu system is nice. I think the eye candy map behind it is just as impressive though.

Those are way awesome, SD. I'm curious as to what the code looks like for it.

Also, that's the old scary game you were working on, right?
Yeah. It was previously made in Sphere, but we missed the personal deadline of 06/06/06 so I suspended it until a bug in ika was fixed so I could do a better lighting engine in it (old one can be seen here: http://www.stellarx.org/sdhawk/06/ad_make_noise.png ). All the art and music was actually completed a year ago, though.
Damn, SD, that really looks badass. I wish I knew how to do something similar in my own game...
