The last time that did it for me was Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (Remake of an awesome game) When that came out I thought there was hope for the franchise, Then reality came crashing down like the bitch it is after Final Fantasy XIII came out and I realized nothing had changed

Why is everyone so negative, Versus looks like a great title and Type-0 looked really cool.
Not that the bar is high, but these look like the most promising game squares revealed in a long time.
I'm with Laharl here, Versus looks pretty awesome, though that's prob 'cause they have the Kingdom Hearts crew working on it, and Type-0 does aswell. In regards to XIII-2, then it looks good, and I'll end up buying it 'cause I enjoyed XIII and it's story, even if it does have a few faults, like Hope in general, and Vanille's voice D:
Hey, I'm just trying to judge the games on their own merits. Dissidia wasn't a bad title at all, and this new one looks like a genuine improvement. I'll give SE that. Agito looks dumb. I don't like Versus character design/aesthetic, but what little I know about it, it might be a fun title. FFXIII-2, well, my opinion of the original was so low that yeah, it doesn't have much to go except up. It might be the same thing (which would be fucking terrible), but I really don't think it could be worse, considering that I thought FFXIII was pretty unfun as a whole. I don't like this feather nonsense though.

I'm not trying to be overly optimistic, let's be real; Square Enix has been pumping up sewage for years now, and no, more FF spinoffs (I will say that Dissidia due to its nature doesn't really count too much) isn't a good trend. But a fun game is ultimately a fun game, and well, we'll see.

They're bringing back the world map for Versus, and they're doing a world map like thing for Dissidia as well.
because having a world map will clearly give the game a remotely coherent story and good gameplay

hey im just directly responding to what chaos said
I'm trying out the Duodecim demo now.
Hacked PSP FTW!

This just in: You grew up. Square Enix isn't making games for you anymore. If you were twelve right now, you'd be playing final fantasy XIII right now goin "OMG these guys are like so real!"

Anyway, I think maybe people do give squeenix a hard time these days for not living up to some imaginary standard. What is it that people really expect them to do?

True, a lot of their games lately are just fan wankery, but you still bought it because you wanted a new adventure in an old world. It's like buying "The Return of Jafar" - you know it's not going to be better than the first, but you wanted some more aladdin dammit.

Besides, it's not like they only do Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts all day (though I won't deny that they have no problem churning them like butter). There's front mission, star ocean, the world ends with you, saga games, valkyrie profile, the mana games, on and on and on - these guys make a ridiculous amount of games. There's bound to be something you'll like.
What about FF: Four Heroes of Light? That looked pretty boss.

Also, nostalgia is a pretty powerful thing...
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I have to admit. I really, really liked FF13. It might be the only RPG I've enjoyed every moment from start to finish since the SNES.

I'm definitely super ultra strong on the Final Fantasy nostalgia but I'm also not so stubborn that I just hate everything new. I only hate FF10, 11, 12, and 14! And most of the spinoffs. And Kingdom Hearts. FF13 is great though! Even though every new FF game makes me find new and exciting reasons to say "holy crap this is so not a Final Fantasy game at all," I think the fact that I've been doing that with every game since FF6 kind of makes the point moot. (Except FF9, that one was uber-retro, but a lot of the fans hated it anyway.)

So, anyway, this news excites me.

And also all of you should play the game I linked. Even if you've never played a MUD. All of you.

This isn't true at all; the games of old were definitely a different breed back then. There's still old games from that generation that I'm just now getting to that I love, and I'm 23 years old. This is an disingenuous argument. Square Enix is one of those companies where the perception of decrease in quality really isn't a bandwagoning type of thing; Wada himself recently admitted that the Square Enix brands weren't doing hot AT ALL and were in need of a revival, their stock has taken a nosedive, and even Japanese developers are commenting on the Japanese market needing a shake up.

None to few of those brands have had any attention in a long ass while. The Chrono series, one of their most well loved and profitable series, in particular has fallen victim to 'SE-forgot-about-itis'.

Make a series in a world where the introductory game to the world put more than two seconds of effort building it so people would possibly be interested in seeing more of it? FF13's world is three keywords and a bunch of interchangeable set pieces used to decorate the tube that makes up 95% of the game. It's pretty much a bunch of cardboard cut outs. Then there's the psychotic group of protagonists who I'd be glad to be done with but besides Lightning are there any returning characters? It'd be nice if it was it's own IP but Square got bit the by the FFitis bug to make shit sell so fat chance of that. At least the subtitles aren't as retarded as 365/2 Days or fucking Dream Drop Distance.

There's also not telling the Australian VA to try and sound "more Australian", but that's not pertinent to the thread.

Don't worry, I'm sure Chrono will appear in Kingdom Hearts as a generic shounen with giant eyes who lost his novelty wooden sword! I love how they not only have the ability to make decent games, but desecrate characters from a time when they DID make good games.

About the only thing Square is good for these days are remakes.
I am slowly losing my faith in Square Enix, but you have to admit, The World Ends With You is pretty good.

Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime was all kinds of fun.
Why does one automatically assume that a FFVII remake will stop Square's "woes"? I thought that these same people wanted different games and more expanding FF games, not another in the long line of fan fap in the form of FFVII, a game which has already seen its mythos jump the shark with the long line of unnecessary direct sequels and prequels, most of which were subpar.

I'm so tired of FFVII right now. I loved the game when it first released, but now, I feel it's ruined. Cloud was ruined. Everybody's character was ruined. Cloud wasn't this incredibly melancholic hero we all think he is. In FFVII, he had some quick quips and was generally likable. Now, since the fans have come out of the woodworks and remember him for his heroic BSOD, he's been stuck in this sort of horrible characterization between what the fans "imagined" him to be and what he's supposed to be. This is one of those cases where I wish the fandom would just quit. Same with Sephiroth. I can never look at these characters the same way again. They've been shaped by the fans, not the creators, and they're all the more horrible for it.

As for the FF series, I'm not one of the fans who have decried the series ever since FF9, which I loved. I also loved FFXII, a game which a lot of FF fans despise. I love it for the simple fact that it's the exact opposite game FFXIII was. Where FFXII was largely open, with large environments to explore, FFXIII was linear and restrictive. FFXII had a small amount of cutscenes with some decent characterization (and awesome voice acting), whereas FFXIII had too many cutscenes with characters who largely overstayed their welcome the first time they opened their mouth. Looks like Square took the vocal minority's FFXII complaints to heart and went the extreme opposite with FFXIII. Can't say I was too pleased.

I can't stop them with a sequel, nor do I really want to. FFXIII was alright. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think it was all that great. It's in the middle of the FF pack as far as I'm concerned. Oh well. I just want to play Versus. Oh yeah, I forgot. I did enjoy FFX-2 as well. One of the best battle systems in the FF series, in my humble opinion.
I am laughing so hard right now

Anyone who actually buys this is legitimately has no taste.

I don't see what the big deal is. Final Fantasy X-2 was a good game
