SQUARE ENIX LOSES ALL SANITY, ANNOUNCES FINAL FANTASY 13-2

Actually if I were twelve and I for some reason felt compelled to buy this game, I'd be more like "What the fuck is happening" followed by "This is boring as shit".

Honestly, Final Fantasy has been completely about cash grabbing ever since FF8.

Not sure if you were trying to come off as sarcastic, but yes, most of the games before then (FF3-4-5-6-7) were really just great, fun to play games. FF9 was alright but it was just a rehash of the old games, and it's where I believe things started to slide.

I disagree with III and V being great and fun to play, but that's for another discussion. FF8 was really riding on the coattails of FF7, what with it's overly similar aesthetics (which itself was pandering to those fans who had been on the wagon only since FF7). I disagree that FF has ever NOT been about money. It's always been a cash-grabbing series for Square ever since it was successful. Same for damn near every video game since the dawn of the medium. However, a game can be great and just made for cash. They are not mutually exclusive.

I loved FF9 and XII, BTW. Guess I'm in the minority. FFIV is another of my favorites.

Yeah, I can see how you might not like the whole class changing/gameplay over story design of 3 and 5.

I honestly think that cash grabbing and just making a good game are totally exclusive of one another. Back in the day, it was about people who wanted to tell a story, who wanted to get that game out there. Sure they wanted to get paid, obviously, but it was more about the fact that they loved to make games.

Nowadays pretty much all of the original "team" no longer work on Final Fantasy. It just comes off like they threw some J-RPG crap down on paper then slapped Final Fantasy on the cover and put it out there to make some quick cash. I'm not going to claim that the people who make the newer FF's don't care or love their jobs, but the work they do comes off as uninspired, and that makes the end product pretty lackluster in my book.

I looked at the trailer for 10 seconds and just facepalmed...

Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime was all kinds of fun.

so i wasn't the only person on the face of the earth that played this gem! Rocket Slime was a kickass game in most every way. it's a shame it wasn't longer, and it could have been a bit more challenging, but on the whole, really a top-drawer effort. things like this are what we need more of.

Heh heh, it would be pretty funny if Squeenix was spending too much and spreading itself so thin that they were almost bankrupt, then they decided to make one more game and it saved them again.

From now on though, I'm only going to talk about stuff from games that I like, since that's more fun.

Man, I remember reading nintendo power so much, scouring every issue for news regarding Final Fantasy III that I was practically salivating when the release came, so much so that I didn't blink twice at the 120 bucks it cost. God, where did I get that money?

I didn't really care though, because my summer and fall were just OBLITERATED that year.

I like how whenever someone hears about a new Final Fantasy game they're disappointed it isn't the FF7 remake we all wanted back when the PS3 came out.

I'd play it even if the only new thing is the graphics since I hate the spaztic polygons the PS1 had to offer.

Of course Squarenix doesn't like making games people actually wanted these days.


We're all still waiting for another Mario RPG that's not made out of paper.

Final Fantasy X-2 has one of the best, it not THE best, battle system and gameplay structure of the series. I've yet to see an argument refute this. Go ahead, I'm waiting.

People can agree that the story and presentation was cheesy and dumb, but when you challenge someone on why they think the gameplay was bad, everyone just sort of falls silent.

So its battle system makes all its other massive flaws (shit story, wrong atmosphere, retarded quests, worst ending in final fantasy history that completely fucked up the genualy good ending of FFX, Bad character designs, Dress me up Barbie mode, Cash cow attempt) obsolete?

I am not a big fan of X but X-2 was just shit, a horrible pile of gooey ransit horse shit.
