SQUARE ENIX LOSES ALL SANITY, ANNOUNCES FINAL FANTASY 13-2
Posts
My main issue was the fact that the Disney shit is in there for practically no reason at all. Like, the stuff they actually made themselves (Organization 13, the Heartless, etc) was actually pretty cool, but they ruin any sense of continuity by making you watch fucking Aladdin/Alice In Wonderland/Nightmare Before Christmas for no goddamn reason.
Like, if they took out everything related to Disney it would probably be a decent game.

Wow, I'm the exact opposite, actually. I like the Disney levels (wish there were more to 'em, though) and interactions, while I'm beginning to detest the actual original storylines. :p

I love Donald and Goofy's interaction with Sora! :(
But, you can't really say that the Disney characters where there for no apparent reason. Maleficent had a pretty big part in KH1.
EDIT: Also, it attracts more customers! (Young kids with money in their parent's pockets.)
Personally I love the Kingdom Hearts series, and out of the ones I've played (All but BBS) I've found the first game to be my favourite, even in the battle system. While there were improvements in the second game for combat, I just found it too easy (Demyx aside) in comparison to the first, which kicked, and is kicking, my ass quite heavily, and required me to use my magic way more than number 2, which was 'Hammer X for win' for most of the game.
CoM I find to be a pretty fun game, if a bit of an ass at times. Doesn't help that my cart keeps wiping my save every so often either >.>
358/2 I enjoy 'cause it bridges the gap between 1.5 and 2, as well as the battle system going back to how 1 played, with shorter chains and more use of magic etc.
As I've said already i have yet to play BBS, so I don't have much to say about that one, except WHY IS IT ALWAYS SOLD OUT DAMNIT :(

KH could've been interesting. All we got was a series that had a bit of minidungeons that can be summed up as Disney Movies in Five Seconds that's even more lifeless than FF13. Agrabah, giant freaking city, population: 4. You might as well be fighting in a world of Earthbound backgrounds. Then they tried having a big plot that encompassed the entire game which was at least an improvement than DMiFS. Until KH2 at least and you get the Noruma Brigade.
KH2 is a bad joke in every way. Borrowed it, started the prologue, eyes rolled into the back of my head. Hell I only beat it because a friend bet $20 I wouldn't finish it in a month (from the bet date and restarting on Hard). All I did was follow the flowchart: (I did watch the cut scenes..... most of them at least).
The cat could've curbstomped that game *
Bonus, from the SDA Cancer Marathon earlier this month:
*Except escaping Hades because I am fucking abysmal at it

This is how I feel about it. The Disney shit is probably the only real well organized and imagined stuff in the games; the original stuff is usually pretty dumb! I mean, if you're a grown person and you can't own up to liking Disney (I mean come on. Who doesn't like Disney), that's your problem, not theirs!
The reason why Kingdom Hearts 2's areas were smaller was cause, Tetsuya Nomura wanted the gameplay to centers mainly around combat. We lost exploration for a much flashier battle system, while the combat is mainly what separates Kingdom Hearts from other RPG's it wouldn't have hurt to have some more platforming areas in the game.
As for the storyline, I agree it went downhill after part 1..... this series should have a light hearted story to fit in with the disney setting, but what we get is an attempt at a serious plot which censors words like kill and death and replaces it with some bullshit like, his heart is fading.

Yeah my main issue is that the series takes itself way too seriously and then it gets hilariously dumb. It should have stuck to the paradigm it had in the first game; Mickey Mouse and Hercules beatin' up blobs for straight up cash munny.
This topic is...making my heart fade...goodbye cruel world...I'll come back to visit you...

author=Feldschlacht IVauthor=tardishey im just directly responding to what chaos saidauthor=Feldschlacht IVbecause having a world map will clearly give the game a remotely coherent story and good gameplay
They're bringing back the world map for Versus, and they're doing a world map like thing for Dissidia as well.
real shit: my game clear of FFXII had roughly 160 hours because I spent so much time dicking around, exploring every inch of ivalice
People bitch about how that game had no story - that was the main draw for me. It introduced the cast of characters - Balthier, Ashe, Basch, and some tag-alongs - and then let you do whatever. Here's a main quest objective; it's on the other side of the world. In the meantime, have some Hunts! Have some sidequests! Have an Esper chillin' in these caves (fucking adrammelech massacred me because I just stumbled upon him; it was amazing)! The whole world was just teeming with life and begged to be explored. Stuff like Giza Plains that changed over time just sealed the deal for me.
I liked FFXII.
Yeah, even if the story in FFXII wasn't your cup of tea (it was so so for me), the biggest consolation prize was the sheer about of stuff to do. So much shit to do, and all at your own pace. You could literally spend half the game dicking around traveling at your leisure turning over rocks and finding TONS OF SHIT TO DO. So even if you did love the plot and characters, you still win! Everybody wins!
FFXIII, on the other hand, if you didn't like the plot and fighting constantly, well, too fucking bad, because that's all that's happening.

i have played every kingdom hearts game and the closest i came to liking one of them was the gba one with the cards
also the story is convoluted retarded horseshit, but Birth By Sleep is the worst offender for featuring this:
this looks like some shit i would draw in the 6th grade
fake edit:
thanks to the dumbass name (which is a terrible pun), the url doesn't even work. brilliant
real edit:
ff12 is one of the best ffs as far as i'm concerned
not as good as ffx-2 but close
though the story was, well, pretty lame (but balthier made up for it i guess)
real edit 2:
okay, the people that made the wiki were smart enough to redirect x-blade to chi-blade so here you go if you want to see the fantastic design of birth by shit

In the meantime, have some Hunts!
Oh my god, I effin' loved Clan Centurio. Final hunt: finished in 3 visits... Could have been 2 if I hadn't gone in there to show a friend...
Unpopular opinion I guess, but I couldn't play more than an hour of FF12 at any given time. The game was stunning, but I'm not really THAT much of a gameplay junkie, so after a while I need something *more* to keep me interested. The characters were very, very, very plain and boring imho (sans Ashe and Balthier) and while the game definitely had a plot, it was so spaced out that by the time I had stumbled into the next cutscene, I had forgotten a lot of what had happened before.
And the game was just too goddamn long. I had about 55+ hours clocked in, saw that I was only at the midway point, and was like "ughhh..."
It definitely had a lot going for it, but it just wasn't for me.

I found the game pretty short. I was shocked when I found out that the Fortress Bahamut was it. But that could have been an issue with the pacing.
I'm actually wanting Final Fantasy XIII-2. I mean yeah, Final Fantasy XIII had a pretty stupid story, but I still got into it, and I thought the combat was pretty fun...once you got past the 20 hour tutorial phase. And honestly, I think Square Enix could make this sequel surpass the original.
Square just needs to do the smart thing. Drop Final Fantasy completely and invest all of the money they have in the new Deus Ex.

fixed
All of the other games aside, Kingdom Hearts was a masterpiece. The combat system may have been button mashy and you had to roll around like a motherfucker to not get hit, but I always felt the battles were really intense.
But what really made the game was attention to detail regarding Disney's work. Not only did they do a lot of good work recreating all of the worlds and characters in 3d, but they got as many of the original voice actors as they could. They did a really good job of showing how each of the characters would react to all these heartless and incorporate these heartless into their storylines, and the overall story about hearts and kingdom hearts is something you could have seen in a disney movie straight up, and it felt like it.
Basically, it felt like I was playing a Disney Movie. But with final fantasy characters who were as happy go lucky as a disney protagonist. With themes you could find in a Disney movie melded into a Final Fantasyesque storyline.
This game is the most cohesive out of them all. If this had been a movie instead of a game, it would have been just as good.
