THE FEATURED GAME THREAD
Posts
For optimal exposure, it's generally a good idea to Feature a recently released game a few months down the road. Let it bask in it's own 'New & Exciting' buzz, and then breathe a second wind into it after the furor has calmed.
I wouldn't feature WaUTaH until at least January. Maybe December at the earliest. Or maybe February is most appropriate, on account of it being guaranteed to win the GotY Misao ;)

The dev-spot WaUTaH has right now could probably be replaced by something else eventually. It likely hasn't needed testers for, I dunno, a week or two? Though, I have no idea what it could/should be replaced with!
Yeah, it definitely should be replaced! I should have thought to ask to have it taken down weeks ago.
If you really don't have anything else for the development slot, I did just post my KoG2 demo reel a few weeks ago. But I got a feature in March, and I think KoG1 was on last months suggestions for feature so... I'll fill if you guys really need something!
I figured the video I made would work for the RMN TV spot or something, but development works too.
Heaven forbid I get any motivation to work on KoG2 T.T

https://rpgmaker.net/games/8394/But if people want to wait a month or two, I totally get that.
I think better to do it now, so that it has a good shot at the misaos. Last year Grimm's Hollow was October's Featured game I think, but it was more of the exception to the rule - it had enough support from surrounding communities to make it happen. I haven't been around for 2020, so I don't know what I've missed.
But what I learned from trying to gather misao contenders last year is that the cut off date in reality is october/november because peeps are too busy preparing for holiday stuff to focus on anything else.
I think Weird and Unfortunate should be the featured game. it's been a long time coming.

It would be cool to feature Moonsong soon. Although it's the first chapter in what was intended to be a larger story, it's still a competent entry on its own. The environments are pretty and the skill trees are super engaging. The combat, while easy, is very rewarding for those who master the systems.

Comfort food for 16-bit fans.

If you put classics like, A Blurred Line and The Way on the list as deserving a feature, I see zero reason why other classics shouldn't be considered. The main thing is that they should deserve being featured, and I'm perfectly aware of how well-loved those games are.
I'm more than a bit out of the loop when it comes to the classic TsuK/TusK3 games, and maybe, one of these days, I'll fix that. For what little it's worth, I tried playing Three the Hard Way and Final Fantasy Endless Nova, but, those particular games just didn't click with me.

I do agree that Endless Nova might not, but Three the Hard Way certainly does (at least in my book).
(Personally I think Three the Hard way is still very good - played it again a few years ago. That said, I can see why it wouldn't jive with many people - especially those who hate FFII's way of levelling up considering it uses that instead of more 'normal' gameplay. I don't think that's a bad thing though.)
The reason I put A Blurred Line and The Way on the list is because, quite frankly, they're still beloved and played today. I've seen a few people talk about how good they still are and whilst The Way has some weird gameplay mechanics at points, the series as a whole is very, very good... even now.
In the case that I did feature The Way, I'd do it as a series feature (as I would do with Legion Saga 1/2/3) because its whole is what makes or breaks it as an experience.
As for why the list is now so big? I couldn't sleep and decided that I might as well do something productive, so went looking for 4+ rated games (usually with more than just one review) to add to the list. Not all made it in, of course, but I cherry picked the ones that I know are pretty damn quality.
That aside, you ignored my question. :<

Nothing Christmas-y is coming to my head right away, but I'll keep thinking about it.
Coincidentally to your list, I've been playing the King of Greyscale and it's really good! Haven't finished it quite yet but it certainly feels feature-worthy :D

If I had any clue what to suggest, I would have done so.

Just so.
Thought I might add Beetle Ninja to the hat.
Same developer as Where the Moon Goes at Night, and it's got the same level of charm and snark.

I would imagine that January is going to be a month that we’ll probably be featuring one of the many possible Misao contenders that hasn’t had the opportunity to get featured as of yet, such as Moonsong: First Verse, Phileas’ Mirror (my pick), or something like Silver Night’s Crusaders.
I know that the real heavy hitters, like Weird And Unfortunate Things Are Happening, Exile’s Journey, and Therapist: Mind Manager have already been featured throughout the year. So maybe a spotlight on one of the other possible contenders would be a great fit for this month, just in time for the actual voting phase.
Now if not that, and we decide to go with another classic from the past, then I would DEFINITELY consider A Blurred Line. …How the hell has THAT not been featured as of yet!? It just seems like such a tragedy that it hasn't been featured after all of these years - but Sanith did before it!?!?!? Aw, man...

Well, I think the preference for Feature Game would be more to complete games. Which, as far as I am aware, A Blurred Line is not. Which may be it's own tragedy.
+1 for Beetle Ninja.
It's the type of game I wish I'd seen back in 2007 and it's the type of game we should encourage and see more of in the future.
I rarely say this about an rpgmaker2003 game, but the music is fantastic.
