Yep. No SHIFT to dash. It's basically coded the same way FFVIII handled running- you stop normally, complete standstill, and holding down a button makes you walk. Moving normally is how you run.
I've had to event it in a pretty roundabout way in order to make sure I cover the ENTIRE GAME, so all characters that dash are accounted for and whenever I want Dashing off, IT IS OFF. The stupid script I was using before now made me do retarded things to try and get around it, so hopefully with how these common events work, most of it will be fairly seamless.

Also, I don't want to run the trap of releasing a flimsy demo or two before calling it quits, so instead I'm thinking of pulling a Lun Calsari and trying an episodic format. Need to figure out how to get stats etc. to carry over, but it shouldn't be too difficult if it was managed ~10 years ago (...shit. Time flies).

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

...really? I know part of it is OH FF6 MY FIRST LOVE, and this is an RPG website so no one is ever going to fucking agree on which final fantasy is the bestestest. But magic was the driving force of the conflict in FF6, and unexplained / taken for granted in FF12. What about it did you think was done better?
I didn't say it was used poorly, I said that it's forced. The first half of FFVI's story, exploring the Espers' ruination and, to a much less successful extent, the fear of magic, was decent. And then LOL I PUSHED A STATUE, LOL THE STORY JUST FELL OFF A CLIFF, GODLASERS GO MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAAHAHHAHAAAaaA HHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH
why does something have to be explained, is my question re: "it was unexplained/taken for granted in FFXII," like, the narrative was about a fallen/wronged general and a fallen/wronged princess rising to power again, utilizing the forces they deemed necessary. They make some arguably terrible/horrifying decisions that are interesting on a human and worldly level, and the magicite/Occuria enhance that with a surreal edge. Cid and Vayne are whispered to by Venat, but they are still scientists and politicians that are drunk on power and fiddling with entire countries of people. Venat helps provide a necessary videogame-y element to the final boss, but that's another HUGE THING:

The final bosses of FFXII are all human. You only fight human enemies in the Bahamut, and even the top of Pharos has you fight Cid/Gabranth (and an Esper, but it's part of Cid's insane messing with the magicks, enhancing his character/the fight as a videogame element) - and then, Gabranth/Vayne are very human. Yes, The Undying is Bahamut + Venat + Vayne, but IT'S STILL VAYNE. A human. A politician. The Matsuno humanity is everpresent, and the story is enhanced by the addition of the magical elements instead of dictated by them.
FFVI has you fight the overall bad guy, sure, but he's a lolgod now. The entire second half of the game, he keeps his human sprite but is obviously not human with his GIANT FUCKING LAZERS and the hilarious "world of ruin." At least Searching for Friends is a great track. But, to my point: in FFVI, the fantasy overrides any need for a quality story. LOOK, A FOUR-WINGED ANGEL. GET THAT ECONOMIZER, BITCH.
