..:: GENERICA ::..
..:: THE NEXT GENERATION ::..

..:: OVERVIEW ::..

Welcome to Generica: The Next Generation! Generica: The Next Generation follows the story of the new generation of heroes as they hunt down the heathen vessel meant to resurrect the fallen Slayer King.

33 years after the demise of the Slayer King and the events of Generica, a Cardinal in the southern continent of Southica is convinced a plan is afoot to resurrect the evil theron. He has secretly trained a new group of heroes to seek out and destroy the heathen vessel meant to revive the Lord of Destruction.

In a world still sickened by the wars and bloodshed and tyranny of the defeated Slayer King, our heroes must pursue the vessel and its mysterious guardian through valleys, across wastelands and over mountains and stop the resurrection at all costs. Fierce elementals, perilous caves, and dangerous assassins stand in their way as humanity and the New Religion strive to survive in a dying world.

..:: NOTES ::..

This project was intended to be a small project created in a short timeframe. However, that isn't how it played out in the end. After nearly 4 years of sitting in Development Hell, I finally pushed through and completed the game. All told, there was probably about only about 3 months worth of work put into this game. It was just interspersed with months and years long hiatuses. This game is a short RPG like the original Generica.

Generica: The Next Generation v1.0 is released! Finally!

The download includes the option to play the original Generica, and the option to use either the G:TNG classes or the original Generica classes (to start either game). Also features a New Game+ that allows you to play through to the next game using the same classes/levels/equipment/items.

This game was patched using DynRPG and HyperPatcher 2 (for the font). There is a FF6.fon in the Font folder you should install if you haven't already. This is the first time that I used DynRPG, and I used it to install PepsiOtaku's Faster ATB patch.

If you encounter any bugs or balance issues, let me know here! I will do my best to fix them.

I hope you enjoy the game!

WHAT?!?
There's very few games I look forward with RM (and the completion of this is one of them). I hope you don't cancel it, because I really enjoy the time and effort that has gone into the Generica series. But I understand that life gets in the way. If it's a bigger project than you realized, is it possible to just find a way to shorten it up so that it's given a semi proper ending?
It's funny that you mention that there was a lot of time put into the Generica series! I made the first game start to finish in 10 days!

And that's the thing...Generica TNG isn't much bigger (if at all) and yet I am absolutely struggling to get it finished. It's already pretty barebones as it is, so I am not sure what I could trim off...

I am remarkably stubborn tenacious though, so maybe I'll put one final drive into it to finish it off.

Kentona, if you need help, everybody here is willing. Besides, after the initial release, you can take it as slow as you want posting add-on patches.
I guess this means no Generica 3 then :P
I just played through the demo today (finally), and while I don't intend to review a demo that may never see its way to completion, I encourage kentona to re-visit it from time to time rather than throwing in the towel. While the first game was a short romp through nostalgia, the sequel definitely has the makings for something much more epic.

For starters, you have an assortment of new class types to pick from. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, which in turn will make combat easy or difficult. Even with a well-rounded party, the game is a bit more challenging. Enemies (especially certain boss characters) require a bit more thought than a simple hack 'n slash approach. On a side note, the game felt less like a grind-fest this time around.

There are quite a number of things to do, and plenty of side quests to keep you entertained. The story appears more fleshed out, and the game is less linear than the previous.

Even in its demo form, if you were a fan of the first game, I recommend giving this one a try and expressing your thoughts. Perhaps with more interest, kentona will consider continuing this one to completion.
Anything is possible!
so ummm.... should I finish this or what?
Hell yes. Please do. ;.;
YES. Yes. Do it, damn you! GAH!
Okay - if I don't get this done by the end of the year I am giving up.
If you fail you'd better watch out. One day... when you're walking through the tubes of the Internet and spot a lone bitcoin and when you bend over to pick it up a dark shadow will descend upon you, push you over, grab this game, and run away laughing maniacally as shove it into Ace!

And that shadow... will be me!
Looking at your maps for this really makes me want to abandon the "style" I've adopted from DWII (sorta) for Heroes of Tsufana. Guh. You can just pull off some pretty awesome stuff with those Chipsets.
Guess who has done dick all on this game this past month?
Dang it. Knew I'd be found out sooner or later. =(
Did you abandon this game? I really hope its just finished and you forgot to release it.
hyahahahaha if only.

No, I haven't forgotten it, but I haven't finished it either. But I haven't thrown in the towel yet, for what that's worth...

If I actually pull this off it will mean that I finished 4 full games this year (Hero's Realm, Generica, Hellion, Generica: TNG), plus Befuddle Quest 1, 2 and 3 and my 3 hour entry I Expect You To Die.

I guess we'll see.
Turns out this game took just shy of 4 FUCKING YEARS to actually complete. Go me.
