a crazy, unchained game...and one that I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting to try something different for a change.
-ganonfrog's review

I had fun! ... The cut-scenes are very well done...I loved the humor and the quirky characters, not only the party members, but also the other people you will meet, love and hate! ... The Cerebral Symphony is a good game, not too hard and full of humor and diversions, of adequate length. ... Maybe I don't understand this game, but I sure had a lot of fun with it!
-TheRpgMakerAddict's review

Strong writing, clever system, interesting characters, and an engaging plot...this game is unreasonably good. It is probably the single cleverest thing I've played on rmn, and its ability to take itself seriously even while it's not taking itself seriously borders on the supernatural...some really phenomenal world-building and dialogue and mapping in kind of a weird package, and I think the community will dig it

Overall I enjoyed the game because of the story. The dialogue is good, the characters are good.

Lowdown

-Begun as the side-project of a bored and depressed fifteen-year old, The Cerebral Symphony has evolved into a claustrophobic, poorly layed-out, passionately-written 2d RPG

-Chapter 1 came out in 2011, Chapter 2 in 2012, Chapter 3 in 2013, Chapter 4 in 2015, the full game came out in 2018!

-About 9 hours play time.

-Please post any feedback to this game page as I am always tweaking and updating the download. If you send me enough, I will list you as a tester.

Story

Brad, a jock, trips one day (at a party, we can only assume), accidentally plunging himself into the hallucinatory world of The Cerebral Symphony where he meets a guy called Ivan, who you might wonder is a human metaphor for repressed teenage angst.

Join the schizophrenic, multiple-personality-disorder afflicted Ivan, whose destiny (and personalities) you can steer through his individual choices as he bumbles his way through his life as a renegade thief into a big war between the underground cyborg Mafia, the omnipresent, all-seeing Corporation and the corrupt, power-crazed Government over the six elemental stones that, when gathered together, bestow ULTIMATE POWER on their holder. Mwahahaha!

On the way you will meet Liz the ADHD werewolf, Jean the insomniac minstrel, Catherine the telepath with a firey temper, Carys the delusional young stage actress, Robert the narcoleptic doctor, Zak the homeostatically-imbalanced fighter-pilot, and Bain the accident prone Gladiator. You will decide whether in the final estimation it is Ivan's more "upbeat" or his "darker" personality that will win control of his mind as they battle with his more balanced, "pensive" side.

Story-driven and choice-based, The Cerebral Symphony is a sci-fi/fantasy/drug trip 2d RPG game with an emphasis on character development and fun, non-random, side-view, Final Fantasy VI style battles, made up of 5 chapters.

Featuring the Fully Completed MULTIPLE PERSONALITY SYSTEM(TM), where Ivan's in-game choices will affect dialogue and plot, alter the screen tint and interface colours and change his battle class and music. You only gain skills in the personality in which you fight! Your choices will affect the story! Enjoy!

Faenon has started writing a serial JRPGlit webnovel

Hello subscribers to TCS!

Two pieces of news. First of all, Halibabica will shortly be doing a youtube LP of TCS.

Secondly, in UK lockdown I have started uploading a serial fantasy webnovel heavily inspired by JRPGS, especially Final Fantasy IV and VI.

It has twelve heroes with distinct personalities who go on an adventure in order to carry out an epic quest, elemental magic, airships, battles, monsters, and a Cid!

People here are probably in the small subset of people who might enjoy this, so if you want to read it, go here https://www.wattpad.com/story/228098139-saga-of-the-jewels

Awesome, thanks raikenjenova! Are you planning on doing the rest of chapter 2 as well?
Yeah, thanks raikenjenova, I saw on youtube! I've added your latest videos to the media page for your Ch2 LP at http://rpgmaker.net/games/2693/media/930/ They're great, keep 'em coming! I've also added you as a tester for the game now as these videos are so useful for testing.

Incidentally, if anyone wants to know, I'm still working on Chapter 3 and tidying up bits of Chapters 1 and 2. Progress has been slow lately as I was writing my dissertation and now have exams for my Master's degree in a week, but after that the pace should pick up!
No worries. I'm looking forward to whenever the next chapter drops.

Life has been pretty lifey for me too, lately.

Hey thanks! I should make another one too :3
also, it's alright when you take some time to making another chapter of TCS, I know it might take awhile because the mapping and strategy, and all of it were difficult to make such awesome game xD
So while I waiting for it, I can make some other videos again :3
raikenjenova has nearly finished his youtube LP of Chapter 2! Check it out at http://rpgmaker.net/games/2693/media/930/ He's nearly on to the Fire Temple!
Faenon, I notice a epic glitch at this game.

Go to Fire Temple, try to walk toward the black ceilings (I mean, black walls, any walls around it, seems like you forget to set it to X instead of O ) :o

for gameplay :
I will try to play and record'em without touching any black ceilings.

edit (again)
Short episode this time xD
But tough O_O

edit (again!!)
rendering now xD
Thanks for spotting that raikenjenova. I watched your video and saw that, I will fix the bug, thanks. Some other things to mention from the video: Carys's skills change depending on who else is in the party (and also what personality they are), as her summoning moves are animals that she imagines embody the personalities of her teammates. Also, the reason that you fought so many 'Sprite' enemies in the Fire Temple is because if you walk near the lava or get knocked into it then the random encounter switch is activated and is set really high, so you encounter enemies. But I think I made the top encounter box too big, as shown in your video, so I need to fix that too. Oh, and good point about the battle BGM in the Temple -reminded me that I need to change that too as it gets stuck on the one from the play at the Carnival.

Anyway, great video, thanks! If anyone wants to watch it, raikenjenova has now finished his youtube Let's Play of TCS Chapter 2, you can check it out on the media page.

Chapter 3 will be out by this Christmas at the earliest. It's probably going to be called "The Experiment", though that's a working title. Screenshots and previews to appear over the next few months -Master's thesis and exams are now over!

Lastly, if anyone out there wants to make a map or two for me, let me know here, see my recent topic on the Help and Requests forum, or look at the blog for this game dated Feb 2013.
Thanks. I already submit some reply at Youtube as well xD

It's about funny Carys and the BGM xD (Poor Naomi o_o)
The rest of them were awesome \o/

but maybe you can keep that encounter rate near Lava. That will give some challenge to gamers like me xD

And yep, looking forward to it! And to all of ya, this game is truly recommended! xD
awesome gameplay, music and more and lots of stuff!
Ok, got a week off work this week to try to finish TCS Chapter 3 in time for Christmas. Wish me well!
Good luck, hey can you capitalize my quote in your description? haha Doesn't it bother you to have it like that? I don't do capital letters for very informal writing, especially bug reports cause I write really fast, but something in a game description I would always capitalize.
Hey Link. Thanks! And sure thing, I'll do it now. I guess as a humanities student I was trying to be faithful to the original text exactly as I received it.... :P Say, did you ever get around to playing Chapter 2? Also, are you up for beta testing Chapter 3 when it comes out (hopefully soon)?
I already have a long list of things I'm supposed to do, but send me a PM and I'll decide then. My new years resolution is to stop doing things for other people. I pretty much forget everything about the story...nightclub, sneaking into a building and a horse/donkey sound plays, some crime boss is blackmailing me I think? LoZ elevator music. ha I think the last thing I did was get a guitar playing zombie whisperer. If I do play I won't be writing extensive notes like I did before, I might do a LP with voice over for you or something so I can at least give feedback. That might be doable.
Oh yeah, Link, you did a LP of the first part of Chapter 2, now I remember -it's on the game's media page... Ok, well, if you wanted to do a LP of Chapter 3 when it drops as well that would be awesome. I'll PM you. In other news:

*PROGRESS UPDATE* Almost there with Chapter 3...so close...just need to code the battles and test it! May have to eat into some of next week...
>:D Waiting for it!!

Good luck tho, take your time making it :3
Sup y'all. The TCS Chapter 3 beta download is up, but only available to beta testers right now. So Link_2112, kumada, and raikenjenova, it's all yours -please let me know what you think and bug reports etc. when you can. I'll PM you too.

Any other subscribers etc., the public release should go up sometime between now and early in the new year :)
It's definitely up, but 'for testers only' is checked. So I think you maybe have to get it from somewhere other than the main page? Can you go to manage games and find it that way?
I did look under downloads, and everywhere else, not just on the main page. I don't have your game under manage games. I can't access the new download by any other means besides that first direct link you gave. Not sure if that's how the testers only system is supposed to work, but it seems like you would need to hand out the link. Dunno if it's really restricted to testers, so you might want to remove the link and PM them to the testers.

Interesting that it still says 0 downloads even though I just clicked it. Not sure when I'll get to it, so no promises.
