Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

Nicely done

so far its great but ill be playing the 1st one 1st

since im probably lost at the storyline

From what I've heard, this is a remake. He really didn't articulate that.
Just out of curiosity, I've always wondered this; Why did you decide to make a remake of a game you had released just before this one? I mean, wouldn't you make a sequel or two first?

Actually, I made the re-make first specifically because I figured ppl would end up playing the sequel without having played the original. Easy to see why :P
Ah. Was just saying because the original game was perfectly polished and playable is all; I myself wouldn't have pegged it as being in need of a remake.

But it doesn't matter. AAG is still a great game. I'm up to Chapter 2 at the moment and I'm loving it! The boss battles can be rather hard but so long as you stay focused and don't mash attack they're beatable.
Just to let you chaps know I have begun to do a run through the game, I'm near finished covering Phase 1.

i was stuck on underwater facility 1 for the longest time until i realized that the teleporters actually led me to different places when i used them over and over. wish i had figured this out sooner, because i was running around for an hour

underwater facility 2 is really just a bunch of mazes and puzzles. you just keep clearing them until the water level is lowered.
I only have the one puzzle left in Underwater Facility 2 and I seem to be stuck. How do you solve the one where you're in a room with 9 teleporters that just make buzzing sounds? I can't seem to do anything except just leave.

you have to get each of them to light up purple or w/e. in other words, touch them in different orders
Ah, I see. I can't seem to see any colors in there. It all looks the same to me. No wonder I didn't get it. Probably something that should be changed. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has trouble seeing the difference there.
Oh, I didn't even think of color-blindness. Alright, well here's a solution set:

Number the crystals like this:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

Activate the crystals in the order given:

A. 1593575
B. 261946
C. 123
D. 5
I'm completely stuck on the battle with (spoiler) (spoiler) and Lavitz, at the top of oberon tower. I've tried using a mix of GRD boost, EX boost and Breakdown field effects, but somehow I end up dying. Do I need to use every last buff and debuff that's available? Or just go grinding.
Ok, I am now in phase 6, and I have some bug reports and suggestions.

First, there is a glitch that causes the phase placeholder character to appear in your party at seemingly random points in the game. While this doesn't sound like a big problem, the placeholder character is always first in the party, and so you use it's walk sprite (nothing). This problem goes away when you save the game - but you might have to walk for quite a while "blind" feeling around for doors before you get to the nearest save point. I noticed this most in acts 4 and 5, hasn't happened yet in act 6, which is good, because the underwater facility was tough enough to traverse.

The boss battles with scott in act 5 were very tough - mainly because I hardly use scott and hadn't really leveled him up much. I have a pretty much perfect combo going with Leon, Erin and Celia, but it was tough getting scott, dread and jake to take down the guy with the vaders (I choose them because I needed as much HP as possible, I tried using indy... dead from their basic hit). I was very relieved to get my party of choice back at the end of act 5 and act 6.

Finally, the underground water facility (1) is very difficult. Unlike all of the other maps, traversing randomly is hopeless, you will eventually get stuck. If the water level is empty, and you are back at the start, you are stuck and have to exit and re-enter the area. Finally, I had to map out the area and eventually figured my way around the area and the effect of the teleporters well enough to locate every area on the map - and it was the last reachable area (I believe) where I found what I needed to continue :P. The main fix I would have on that level is to make it so you don't get stuck in the first area where whether you go left or right, you can't get down from the channels when the water level is low. Also, I don't like how shift doesn't work underwater... when lost underwater, there is no avoiding repeated battles every x steps.
@Astaroth

Well, one thing I like to do is have a dedicated item-user, aka someone who doesn't do anything but use items. He/she acts as a healer/buff'er while the others do all the attacking. Maybe you can try that?

@terra

Did you notice any patterns to when the placeholder appears? It's only suppose to happen when you're saving. Are you using any third-party programs to run AAG? It might be causing the maps to reset, which could trigger that.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it's definitely one of the most difficult areas in the game to figure out. It'll be too much of a pain to chg the underwater facility now, but I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind for future projects.
I'm not using any third party programs to run AAG - just the RPG_RT executable that comes with the download. As for patterns, the placeholder seems to appear when teleporting (moving between rooms) and when saving (like it doesn't remove the placeholder like it should), and on rare occasions after I'm done with dialog. This sounds like a problem with rpgmaker - but maybe it's because I'm using windows 7? The appearance seems pretty random, perhaps it is a race condition - if I hold x button at the exact right time, it accidentally adds or forgets to remove the placeholder?
Craze
why would i heal when i could equip a morningstar

There are three Let's Tryplay's of this, so I probably won't be LTing it... but hot damn will I be playing it.

Best completed 2k3 game, here we come? And not just because it has pretties - from what I've heard from number-centric dudes like chaos, it's incredibly well-balanced and actually, y'know, fun.
