Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

Sorry if I'm a bit brief, I'm strapped for time these days.. -_-;

For Underwater Facility victims, answer to problems on previous pg

I managed to get to the O.P. Lv. 4, and can't seem to be able to advance any further at the moment. From the clues given it seems like I have to get all the extra abilities and do something with a big red/black figure. Problem is, I don't really know where to start looking for this figure, and I also wonder if there's a way to mark areas with extra abilities ( like the unique syncs in the Pan. ).

For big red/black, go to Tinder's Hideout after phase 2. As someone else mentioned, last tourney prize will help with getting the extra abilities.

I've encountered (probably) a bug. Dread's EX ability won't work at all.

What equipment is dread using? When did this start? May be field effect removing AP/EX which can cancel abilities (I don't like this either, but haven't figured out a way to prevent it yet)

Anyone wana tell me where Pulsar mode is? I've beat the game and seem to have missed it and apparently it's really good :S

I think it's in the Sewers of Abandoned City in Pallas. Someone confirm?

I'm getting into flash and spriting, I could help you there if we worked out some schedules. Also, flash has a place in my heart (if you can't already tell). AAV as a flash game...on Newgrounds.com and whatnot is...is...

Sounds good, I'll come bug you when I actually get going with this.

BTW, like everyone else, this dungeon is the devil, (Also, what is that weird sprite near the save point that says "...?"

:)

Boss stuff

I'm looking at you, GWeapon. The only boss I had to cheese with my entire "bomb" supply just to squeak by (Admittedly, if I had remembered the "Unequip All" command that fight would have been a bit easier, but the insane defense it had would still have been a major issue with my lack of spell/tech abilities on survivable characters). Also, there was one random encounter with 3 red mechs in "beneath Ceres 1" that decided it would be cool to open the fight with 2 Spellfire Barrages and thankfully a normal attack instead of a third one, dealing about 2000 damage to the whole party. Needless to say, Scott ran like a little girl after that one. Thankfully, that was the only time I got two in a row from that encounter, so I just chalked it up to bad luck. Hopefully no one get's lucky and is on the receiving end of three of them before they get a second turn. Besides those two instances, everything has been either manageable, or manageable after slightly altering your strategy to help accommodate for theirs.

Definitely one of the biggest problems of having multiple characters. I'm planning only 6 for AAV. So hopefully levels and not having access to main team won't be a problem.

As for 3 red mechs.. :P

Currently, I've been trying to find all of those as well as all of the Soul Mirror battles. I'll list the locations of places I've found Joker and who I assume the new ability is for below in a spoiler tag. Does anyone know any others I might have missed? I've checked each one except the third one in the list with each of the main cast in Phase 8, and any one marked with question marks doesn't fit any of them.

Stynx - Main Prison - Red
Charon - Slums - Silvra??
Charon - Warehouse - ??
Isle - Factory - Tinder??
Pathos - Sewers - Jake
NML 1 Ceres - Gray
Bridge Facility - ??
Rebel Base - Main Prison - Hawk
Pallas - Abandoned City - Erin

I guess I'll avoid saying names for spoiler sake, but here you go:

Gallith - Inner Core 2
Pallas City - Abandoned City
Pallas - No Man's Land 2 (Only during postgame)
Ceres - No Man's Land

Orbital Prison 3
Pathos - Sewers
Stynx - Main Prison
Pallas - Rebel Base Prison Area

Charon - Slums
Ceres - Bridge Facility
Charon - Warehouses. He's on the right side of the giant pit.

Oberon Tower Upper Levels, at the very top.
Factory. Go down the first ladder, then in the door.
Underwater Facility. He's somewhere along the route through the complex. You'll need to teleport once or twice to find him.

I guess I'll end with a couple of questions. First, I looked and didn't notice this question in the posts since release: How many phases are there? I'm in Phase 8, and while it has a very final dungeon feel about it, I'm pretty sure due to other hints in the game(Soul Mirror and Jokers) that this isn't the end.

Second, has anyone found the the Soul Mirror fights(little glowy orb things near a save point) in the Dam Facility and the Slums? They seem to be even more cleverly hidden than the Manor's (Which I'd have never found without a save point to mark it). I've looked them over a couple of times so far and can't quite seem to find them.

Phase 8 is the last phase of the game, but there's a pretty massive postgame, so yeah, it's not the end :P

For soul mirror:

Erin - Pallas City - Dam Facility: Lower the water level to its middle position, then make your way up to the top. Backtrack to the right till you get to the first flood chamber. Enter the room on the right that was originally unaccessible.

Jake - Charon - Slums: In the room just before the boss, check the cage wall to the right of the jukebox.

im stuck in Phase VIII... i have been leveling up only few characters Leon ,erin , celia, scott level +- 40
other are very underleveled and die after one hit from random encouter

so please could someone post some highlevel save from Begining of Phase VIII or know some kind of leveling trick, Area where to level up quickly pls help... i dont want to spend hours of leveling up my char..

You shouldn't need to lvl. Give it your best shot and if you can't get it, use Casual Mode to make things easier on yourself.

think I've found a rather nasty glitch in the final battle. Basically, one of my character's ATB gauges stopped moving after they were revived via a Revivant B. Details are hidden below due to spoilers.

Ok, so I was fighting Aila with a team of Erin, Gray, and Violet and a good ways into the battle Violet died for the dozenth time. Up till then, I'd been using Violet(with GUARDIAN/Chaos Mode/EX Facilitator) to clear out the three orb things that let Aila use what I soon discovered to be X Nova. When I attempted to toss a Revivant B onto Violet, Aila triggered her Crush Field and Gray immediately chucked the Revivant and Violet got up at near full health... except her ATB wasn't moving. I tried tossing another revivant, wondering if somehow she had HP restored but still had the death flag, but it didn't fix it. Still wouldn't move. I basically had to sit there and watch me go from having complete control of the situation to outright losing, since I didn't have enough time to find another solution to killing the orbs or fixing Violet. This only happened to Violet over the course of the fight, but she was the only one to ever go down over the course of the fight until the X Nova occurred, so I don't know if it's specific to her or not. I'll try again later and post if it happens again. Hopefully it's just a one-time fluke, cause that really pissed me off since I was pretty sure I had the fight in the bag up to that point... especially with as well as my team had performed against Angel Kugar just earlier.

Oh, and lol at Aila's ultimate dealing 10k+ to the whole team. I was feeling guilty for hitting Kugar and Aila for 15k and 12k respectively with Gray earlier, so I guess that makes up for it. ;P

Hmm, that's really weird! It might indeed have something to do with the system glitching out. Not sure how I might fix this, but let me know if it happens again.

Also, props for breaking the dmg limit :D

If you don't mind me answering this, they are basically "currency" for extra abilities. By now you probably realized some gray floating guys in certain dungeons saying a description for a character. If you have access to the character at the time ( doesn't have to be in your active party, but that character has to be selectable as a choice for your active party ), it will ask you for a combination of the four shards in order to "purchase" that ability.

Yeah, if you guys know the answer, feel free to reply for me. It'll help lessen my load :D

And of course, HUGE thanks to everyone for the feedback. I'm definitely taking notes for use with AAV (for example, teleporting crystal puzzles are probably a no-no)

Let me know if I missed your question.

Why is Jake a woman?

That's classified information.

Still got this pretty minor one here, original question was posted 1-2 pages ago, but essentially:

Is the Behemoth in Orbital Prison Level 2 actually beatable in brute force combat?
And a little question about Trauma in Orbital Prison 3. I thought its language skills were already degraded by the time the party fights him because he drops a note when defeated. How come it was able to speak to the party pretty clearly before the fight( I'm assuming it's the same person ) ?

Also I can't seem to find Tinder's Hideout anywhere, is it a secret area I have to discover?
You mean with or without

using the laser cannon at the very bottom of the area?

It might be possible without, but I've never tried. Let me know if you're successful :P

3-hit rephy and 9-hit special.

Attack ups. Wild card. Pulsar.

Equal attack boosts applied over multiple attacks.

Win.
Also, Neok, where do I find the Shadow bosses in the Underwater Facility and the Dam Facility? I've combed over both but couldn't find 'em (and NML3 is only accessible after you beat the game, correct?)

I'm still trying to figure out how Karsu's getting 5 EX off the bat to do Violet's special. Pulsar takes 3 turns usually.
I'm gonna have to stop reading this thread. Way too many spoilers floating around.
@Karsu

O-oh my..

(Show me later :P)

Pallas City - Dam Facility: Lower the water level to its middle position, then make your way up to the top. Backtrack to the right till you get to the first flood chamber. Enter the room on the right that was originally unaccessible.

Underwater Facility 1: From the world map entrance, make your way to the first water control room. Lower the water level to its lowest. Go back the right. Jump down twice, and enter the bottom right room.

And yes, NML3 is postgame only.

The last two cutscenes in phase 4 make no sense. Maybe I'm reading the dialogue too quickly.

If he manages to have 5 EX at the start of the battle, he might have the Revellion Mode ( 20% HP/Rnd, 6 1st AP, 5 1st EX, 0 EX/ABI ) equipped, unless I missed a mode somewhere. I personally like using the Scion Mode ( -5% HP/Rnd, 3 1st AP, 4 AP/Rnd, 3 EX/Abi ) or the Chaos mode ( -20% HP/Rnd, 8 AP/Rnd, 3 EX/Rnd ) as it usually allows me to use my Exceed ability every other round after the first activation.
My favorite combination post-game is to equip Hawk with the Chaos mode and Justice Sync + Zero System sync, as it allows him to cast Orbital Assault every round after the first round, and uses the -20% HP loss per round to his advantage to increase damage ( can go anywhere from 8000 damage per round to 20000 damage per round depending on resistances).

And regarding to:

I actually never realized that there was an easy way to beat this boss. First time I ran through the level I was actually pretty scared because of how merciless it was when it caught me ( 1 round game over ). So the moment I saw the exit I just ran for it, and since I saw that level 3 was unlocked I thought I was done with it. When I just went back and found the laser cannon, the Behemoth was actually quite pathetic when it's weakened. Shame the prize for killing it on easy mode wasn't that great.
I went back and collected some data on the hard version. Casts X-Destruction every round, about 5k-6k damage per round while causing Crush ailments, doesn't seem to have problem with resources even with AP Crush and negative AP field. However, X-Destruction can be guarded against and the boss isn't as fast as I thought, so I still believe it is beatable in hard mode.
If I find that beating the ultimate boss of the game isn't satisfactory, then I might go back and take up on this challenge. Will need to do some grinding though, since only Hawk at the moment can survive X-Destruction without blocking.

And I would still like to know if the hard version has a finite amount of HP.

Sorry for the amount of text in this one.

Uh, what do I do with this?

Also, Neok, would you be willing to explain the point of what a certain two characters reveal at the end of Phase 4? It makes no logical sense in the overall plot, unless it's to be revealed later.
Thanks for the assist Neok! You rock!

Also, thanks for the props, but if anyone deserves props, it's you for even implementing 5 digit damage in the DBS. I was more surprised at being able to go over 9999 damage in the DBS. That just goes to show how much work you've done on it. Anyways, apparently it's very possible to break the damage cap with a Wild Card/Joker Card and a little bit of luck.

Waitaminute... do those stack? Surely not... but it should be fun to test... For Science! or, rather, for the sake of blowing stuff up! XD

Update: It appears that they might just stack. Using an ATK, MND, and CRIT boost and GRD & MND crushing a Punk B(in Stynx - Main Prison) resulted in a 35k damage hit from Gray's Buster Cannon with both the Wild Card and Joker Card on him in addition to an Impact Bolster.

This game rules! I'm not even at the post game yet, and already I can do stuff like this.
@Missileboater

XD

Yeah it's finite. The weakened version has like 2/3rds of it shaved off at the start though.

@karsu

You won't get to play around with that for a while. Just remember that it was there :P.

@Dec

Answered in PM

@ARP

Oh damn, XD, Yeah I'm pretty sure they stack. That's probably enough power to send 'em to orbit :P

Edit: You should screen-cap it next time :D

man remove me from the tester list or something so I can get AAG notices. :<
No one's on the tester list! No idea why you're not getting notices, but it's definitely not anything I've got control over.
Every time I open up RMN, I get a AAG notice :)
