Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. You play the role of a young man known as Leon, who seeks to survive in the harsh environment he is brought into.

Exploration is done mainly via a side-scrolling view. In certain areas, an exclamation mark will sometimes appear, indicating the presence of hostiles. Press Z when this happens to initiate battle, or wait to let it pass. Sometimes battle will be unavoidable. When walking, enemy encounters won't occur.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

"Known Glitches"
Due to the limited functionality of the RPG Maker 2003 engine, there are various glitches and bugs which are unfortunately unfeasible or impossible to fix:
- Sometimes during an action, the battle data of a character will be temporarily overwritten with another character's, causing them to not perform as expected for that round.
- In certain cases, player actions can be interrupted by the enemy or other character's actions. To minimize the occurance of this, wait for current actions to finish before selecting an action with another character.
- Using items and guarding doesn't trigger the code to check for enemy deaths. You need to actually use an ability, or let the enemies take a turn.
- Although not a bug, Active Mode should be changed to Passive Mode in the in-game menu to prevent enemies from acting while you are taking an action.

"Hints and Tips for Boss Battles"
- Don't expect to just be able to spam regular attacks until you can use your Exceed ability. You won't win an attrition war with the enemy party.
- Always target the enemy's weakness if you can. If you want, think of this as a Shin Megami Tensei game. :P
- Make sure to keep your HP up. The vast majority of bosses have pretty powerful high EX costing abilities that'll wipe out your party if you're not expecting it.

- That said, keep in mind, the enemy is subject to the same rules as the party. In other words, they're also gaining AP and EX, and they also need it to use their more hard-hitting abilities. So if you can prevent them from using them while still retaining the ability to use yours, you'll be able to beat any boss.
- You can tell how much EX an enemy's ability uses by looking at the name of the ability. Similar to your character's abilities, it'll show up as the number of squares on the left side of the name.
- Of course, the above passes quickly so isn't that reliable of a method. As a general rule, you can expect that:
- Anything that uses an element other than Force likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that does multi-targetting likely costs at least 1 EX
- Anything that hits everyone hard probably costs 2 or more EX
- Anything that outright kills someone from full health, or makes you swear "Bullshit! That can't happen!" is likely an Exceed ability.
- Chances are it'll also be very flashy.
- Obviously, there's going to be some exceptions, but for the most part, this can be followed.

- Don't ignore Field Effects either. Bosses don't, and the Field Effects they use generally stack things in their favor. It's not just about dealing as much damage as quickly as you can. A lot of times, it's also about controlling the situation.
- Modes, Field Effects, and Boost ailments all stack. If you're creative, you may be able to create a situation where you can pretty much negate everything the boss throws at you, while tossing out Exceed abilities every turn. Bosses won't stand a chance.

MAP SAVE FREEZE: If you're changing things in this game in the editor and your save file freezes on the world map as a result, press F9, go to switch 112 and 113, and turn them both OFF. That should fix it.

Wanted to ask abt something:
1. If i use enhancers to max out the stats, does it still make sense to use syncs like Demon King Cradle ? Do Syncs have hidden attributes ?
2. Does the guard stat really not work for my characters ? Do i equip only ATK gear and ignore the GRD gears then ?
3. what exactly does the CRIT booster do ? is it an attack booster ? a stat booster ? is it a double damage item ?
4. How do u delete extra posts (See horror below)

Thankies

I'll try to answer these to the best of my ability. I haven't touched the game in a while so I might not get everything right.

1. For the Demon King Cradle( DKC ), it actually can still be very useful even if your characters have 999 attack without additional equipment. Reason is because the DKC will attack with all elementals, which means as long as the target has a weak element, the DKC will always deal additional damage due to the target's elemental weakness. It is useful for some battles where the enemies have different weaknesses ( Orbs come into mind ).

2. From my experience and from what people in this discussion has said, your characters' GRD stats don't really do much for you. Since it doesn't seem to mitigate damage at all, and healing abilities will heal characters with a higher GRD stat for less HP, it doesn't seem worth it to increase GRD at all.

3. All the Stat Boosters ( ATK, GRD, MND, SPD ) seem to double the stat they increase while it is active. HP Boosters will give your character +10%HP per round. EX Boosters will increase the EX gain per round by 1. AP Boosters will increase the AP gain per round by 2.

The CRIT Booster will, as far as I can tell, activate all of the above Boosters all at once. Not too sure about this answer though.
Yes, CRIT Boosters seem to be an "all-in-one" deal, but it also counts as a separate boost from the other seven, so if you have another boost, it'll stack. So ATK Boost *and* CRIT Boost on one character should quadruple your damage.

(And if you're just using DKC for elements, Tear of All Ocean is a better idea, since it increases Speed, the one stat that can't be increased by enhancers. Double Zero-Systems are still better though.)

I can confirm some of this with a recent test. Leon with Vice ( -5HP/Rnd, 4 AP/Rnd, 1 EX/Rnd ) was able to gain 8 AP per round and 4 EX per ability ( Double Shot ) with EX Booster, AP Booster, and CRIT. However, when I tried to stack it with ATK Booster, he didn't do any noticeable amount of extra damage. I think it's because his ATK stat with the DKC already puts him at 962 Attack, so CRIT may already increase that to near the maximum.

And remember, Zero-Systems are of the Burn element. So if the character has an Exceed ability of WPN type and the enemy is strong to Burn, it wouldn't do as much damage.

And to add to this, some syncs give dmg multiplier bonuses that aren't affected by stats.

2. Does the guard stat really not work for my characters ? Do i equip only ATK gear and ignore the GRD gears then ?

Yeah, I guess not, from what other people tell me! Kinda a bummer.

3. what exactly does the CRIT booster do ? is it an attack booster ? a stat booster ? is it a double damage item ?

Like the others said, all boosts in one. You can stack AP, EX and HP boost on top of it, but not ATK, GRD, MND, or SPD.

O_O

I am speechless.

(I do wonder how well it would work on Aila, though, since she isn't weak to Burn... DKC hits with all elements though, so it'd hit her weakness to Psych. What of the final bonus boss, though?)

Sorry for the late reply, just got to the more interesting part of the game in the video walkthrough:

She didn't even get the field effect off, that's how effective it is even if the target has Burn resistance.

---

Also, seems like the first duel with Leon is timed:

So, seems like using damage combat-items is just a waste here.
Hey there, I am at phase 8 and I have a few questions:

Basically I am at (phase 8) the last dungeon... I think. So, for the past hours I have been hunting down the mirror enemies (dark PCs) and got them all except the ones in

1. NML3
2. Below Stynx

As far as I know I never been to these areas nor unlock them. So how do I get those? Jake and Dread are the only ones without their EX-Sync now :(

Also, what's the deal with the orbital prison? There is no explanation or cutscene (did I miss it?) all that happens is well... getting the mirror aaaand that's it (also locations for the dark enemies). That's how I found out about NML3 and below stynx. Are those post game?

It would be nice if someone can make a walkthrough for the optional content and (maybe) item location (modes and stuff like that). Tried reading the comments section but man, spoilers galore (noo) and too messy, sorry.

Also I am level 30+ now, am I underlevelled??? Or more accurately am I lacking in setups?
Setup:
-Heart of xxxx/ Ex-Sync/ G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N.
-X/Zero System/Cinderella
-Anything
-Hp Regulator A (cause mindcrush doesn't have that much effect???)
-Pulsar/Vice/Scion/Chaos (Pulsar is the general choice).

I heard zero system is awesome, but... what if the enemies have burn resistance? Also does effect stack? ex. Equipping two cinderella wonder = PSY damage ++ ?
NML3, below stynx and orbital prison are all postgame dungeons, so you have to beat the game to access them.

Orbital prison is unlocked once all the mirror enemies are defeated, including nml3 and below stynx.

To unlock nml3, you have to talk to a particular npc in stynx after beating the game. Below stynx is unlocked after completing nml3.

Good luck. (as for setup wise, I'll let the others do the explaining.)
Well, in my boss walkthrough videos I'm basically doing it from a fresh start without any random encounters. If you can wait for me to start on the optional content, I'll be happy to show you ( been pretty lazy the past month with it ).

But what I do suggest is picking up a second Zero-System. It makes a lot of the boss fights a lot easier. You should be able to pick one up from Tinder at about Phase 5, but don't wait too long or his stock will change.

About Zero-Systems and enemies with Burn resistance, look at the first video above your last post ( with Aila ). Her resistance to Burn is about 75% there, if I recall correctly. That should answer your question. Also don't forget some characters have abilities/Exceeds that have set elements ( Shooting Star and Killing Point, for example).

And I think you should be fine at level 30, you shouldn't need the HP except for a certain optional fight, but it wouldn't be worth your time unless you're really looking for a challenge.

By the way, you can take one of the saves from the Save Files page if you don't feel like going back to get the extra Zero-System. It should include whatever's in the video. It's behind on the Street Tournament though, but I wanted to leave as many optionals for others as I can.

Guess I should get back on track with AAG now.
Ah, no wonder I could not access those areas. I thought it was some kind of optional quest (i.e. talk to someone to open the area up, or take a hidden path somewhere). Strange setup there, I wonder why Dread and Jake? :\

@MissileBoater
From the looks of it, it will take a while for me to finish the game and do all the Optional stuff, so I don't mind waiting (but please do post it if you finish it so I can compare notes).

Well... yes, that's the problem. Tinder's stock has changed and I think now he doesn't have Zero system anymore :|

But, I think I should be able to manage somehow so I am not that worried.

Also it makes sense if Lower health = more damage by Zero system, but do you really need to equip two of them? I want to know if they stack the % boost.

I suppose this means Chaos is the best mode to use with Zero system (I still use the Hp regulator A though).

By the way, so far in the game I exclusively use the modes that gives you more AP and EX per round (so the whole strategy is Exceed Exceed and Exceed while breakdown (enemies only gain +1 EX per turn, so.... with debilitate they can't use anything but normal attack, mostly) or debilitate is in effect). How does the other modes fare? Should I sell them?

Cheers!

That's the playlist link of the bosses. I'm also in Phase 8, so you might find some use soon if you're having trouble with the last bit of the story mode. Check back on it from time to time, since Thanksgiving Break is coming I'll have the time to do a chunk of it. Shards and voice commentary/full playthrough(in the future) are in a different section.

From my observation, two Zero-Systems do stack damage on each other. Once I get up to a boss with 150% Burn Resistance, I can test for sure ( I personally didn't find the extra Zero-System in my first playthrough ).

Chaos + Toxication Field will bring your HP down very quickly, use the combo if you believe that you have a lot more turns than the enemy.

Some of the good Defensive Modes ( like Revellion in combination with the Heart of Mysia/Al Di La sync ) can be useful in some boss fights that do a lot of damage quickly. Although other modes aren't that useful, I'd just keep them for collection purposes.
Also does effect stack? ex. Equipping two cinderella wonder = PSY damage ++ ?

No. The elements system is the default R2k3 one. If you equip two syncs of the same element, you'll just get higher attack. Not recommended; you're encouraged to use syncs with as many elements as possible, since if the enemy is weak to even one of them, that's the one that's used.

And yeah, Blitz/Arc lines >>> everything else. The Speed boost is just icing on the cake, and the HP degeneration is pointless with a good source of healing such as Erin.

What party are you using, by the way? I would recommend Leon, Erin, and Violet, or Leon, Gray, and Violet if you have an abundance of healing items.

(And, uh, Jake's ultimate weapon is in the slums of Charon, it's Gray who has his darkside in NML3...)

Edit: Oh, and yeah, double Zero-Systems *do* stack, for devastating effect. See ARPerson's video where he "broke the battle system" a few pages ago. ;)
@Missileboater
Will do, I am going to check those if I have problem with the final boss (or maybe whoever in between in the last dungeon, I haven't even started). But with the Zero system and ATK/SPD boost I am guessing I would do all right (hopefully).

Actually, I never knew about Nova (mentioned in some of the comments baaack there) or Revellion (I knew Heart of mysia would be useful....somehow) or Al Di La at all. Am I suppose to have those? Also DKC.... is it post game?

@Argh
Indeed, but I am pretty sure blitz is Lv1 mode with no Ap/Ex boost...
Well I am torn between Leon (the attacker), Erin (Healer, heh), and Celia / Violet. Celia because I don't have to change party in dungeon or boss (i.e. attack all EX). And Violet's EX is For/Frz... I think Aila is weak again Psy??

Also, yes, you are right, it was Gray, not jake, my bad.
(I say Blitz and Arc since that's where the lines originate... Vice, Pulsar, and Chaos are what I'm referring to, but "Blitz line" is easier to type, you see. Also, I'm obsessive about categorizing everything correctly, so I feel that it's important to start with the level 1 mode, even though it doesn't do anything special. Just a quirk of mine)

Nova is in Below Stynx somewhere if I recall correctly, level 2 I think. So you won't be seeing that for a while. Don't worry though, Scion + EX Facilitator B on Erin allows her to use First Aid on a constant basis anyway.

Yeah you don't need to worry about much. This game is practically Final Fantasy 6 Lite in terms of gamebreakers. (SPD Boost/Crush Fields, Blitz/Arc lines, Static-damage sync + Violet, etc...) And actually, when you fight Aila as the final boss, she isn't weak or resistant to anything. The only elements you need to worry about are freeze, burn, and shock. You'll see why when you fight her. ;)

And Celia isn't actually that powerful in my experience. Her EX is hard to pull off since it requires 10 AP. Seriously, use Violet. Shooting Star completely breaks the game. (See ARPerson's gamebreaking vid -- the final hit actually does *over one million points of damage* with his setup)
@Argh
Yeah, I just beat the game. The final fight's gimmick got me a few times but it's cool. Now to actually try the game with Tinderbot - and perhaps his brother...later. Why can't we have all Robot team ??

Yes, I swapped Celia with Violet since well... not that useful in terms of single enemy damager.

So yeah... post game stuff starts now I guess.

I believe both Nova and Revellion are both found in post-game content. I definitely know Nova is, but I kind of forgot where Revellion is found. It's going to have to turn up eventually, so I'll tell you when I do find it.

Actually, "Always ---- Damage" syncs work pretty well here as well, especially if you have the C.R.I.S.I.S. by this point and don't feel like juggling syncs around. And Leon's Killing Point pretty much solves the problem if you don't want to worry about syncs in general.
Man, post game dungeons enemies are all hard hitter. It takes a long while to win the random encounter (I skipped most of them anyway but still! ).

So I switched my party to Leon+Erin+Gray since damage wise Buster Magnum is better than Violet's (though I really need to watch that Violet damage breaking video) in dealing damage (for now). I want to utilize G.U.A.R.D.I.A.N. but with attack boost the damage I can deal is much higher :\
Perhaps I am a bit too reliant on these boosts....

Maybe I need to get 3 pulsars to even the odds. (oh dang I forgot where these are...hmmm... Phase...3???)

POST GAME QUEST SPOILERS Question

How do I get to fight the hydra? Which I assume is true because of the rumor (in phase 2?) and the old man in the NML3 which hinted something under Celes. He can't mean in Avalon right....

You can't get copies of modes -- they're one of the treasures that don't reset.

And hm... Buster Cannon is stronger than Shooting Star for you? For me, it was actually weaker than Blast Revolver. With ATK Boost and an X-System, Gray was capable of dealing ~11000 damage if the enemy was weak to something. It might be hard to see since the damage of Shooting Star is split into so many pieces, but it should still be pretty strong. Also, Violet is significantly faster than Gray.

(And don't worry about relying on boosts, I think you're expected to. Have you tried using SPD Boost/Crush fields? If you use both, you'll literally get twelve turns to an enemy's one. Nothing can really challenge you at that point.)

POST GAME QUEST SPOILERS Question

During the maze section of NML3, to the left I believe, there's a kid sitting in a dead end. If you talk to him, it'll trigger the event flag that makes the metal hydra appear.
You really don't need 3 Pulsars to complete the game. In fact, in my first playthrough of the game I skipped Pulsar until the very end. Chaos, Vice, Scion, and ( eventually ) Nova should be enough.

Violet is a pretty situational character. Her Exceed ability is limited to Force/Freeze, so she can't do much when the enemy is resistant to both. She the top character in the main cast when it comes to hits per Exceed ( second with optionals ), so the 'Always ---- Damage' syncs work well with her.

As for the Post-game question:

Triggering the fight with Metal Hydra is automatic once you enter post-game. I was able to go straight for it on my fresh Clear Game save.

However, if you're looking for access to the area under Stynx, try searching the Main Prison of Stynx.

As for the Post-game question:

Huh? Then what does the kid do?
