Regrets and Desires

*peeks head in to check no-one is around, then sneaks in*

Wow... it feels almost alien for me to sit down and write another blog (No. 198 as of writing). Not to mention the last blog for this game was written more than two years ago. And because Icebound is still pending, I'll probably just write the blog here.

So you'd probably be asking me why I'm writing another piece for a game that was completed in November 2014?

Well, thing is... The commercial evil is calling out to me. Like most hobbyists, I do dream about making a full-time living out of doing something I love so I can quit my dreary, soul-sucking 8-5 job.

It can seriously stifle the creative spirit and probably one of the reasons why my game-dev passion just vanished a few years ago. But now, having reached the ripe old age of 30 and forever leaving my twenties behind, I figured that:

1) I can't take life too seriously (most of my games have been pretty serious)
2) Let go of past grudges and
3) It is about high-time I decided to make the life I want to live and not be slave to a dreary job where getting a double bonus at the end of the year makes it bearable (it isn't).

I've also decided to buck-up on my art skills so that when I do go commercial one day, I can at least save myself a few hundred bucks by not hiring an artist. zero-project's (my music-muse) music is free for all commercial work, so that's one less problem to worry about.

Hello Laine, my old friend.

I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed at trying to familiarise myself with MV. The engine has enormous potential, but all these plug-ins... Yanfly is seriously on a roll. To someone who has been using VX since late 2010-early 2011, to me it feels like the equivalent of going from paddling around in a baby pool, to diving off the 10-metre springboard. But I know it will pay off in the long-term. But I'll probably end up making a few short games in MV before taking this huge step.

It's exciting, but also terrifying at the same time. I need to let go of my innermost fears and just release all that pent-up creative energy. What is my innermost fears, you ask?

Well...

It is the fear of failure. Also, the fear of letting down people who expect great things from you, who expect you to be at the top of your game no matter what. But worst of all, for me at least, is when someone (whether in real life or on the internet) expresses immense disappointment in you. That... has always struck me hard and always sits like a lead balloon in my chest.

As to what happened about a year-and a half ago...

I regret it, and bitterly. I lost a few good friends that day, and I still it to this day. Every time I thought about RMN during my hiatus, that was the first incident I thought of. But I guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

So, here's to a better and more productive 2018! No more fears, no more past regrets, and no more looking back.

This is Luchi, who is now officially back from the dead, signing out.
Blog No. 198 written.

Also, the blog title is totally not a reference to an episode in Granblue.

I took a break and started playing some more...and I found both a bug and a question at the same time.

First off, is there any point in getting the golden staff for patrick? I am assuming I can only get this as I am about to leave that area, at which point the iron rod is already superior to it.

As for the bug, you can get unlimited golden staffs from that chest.

sell for uber loot?
Nah, it doesn't sell. I wouldn't abuse it even if it did though lol.

Out of curiosity, is the bandits key just a late game item? I just beat the cave, and want to make sure I didn't miss anything. (I am pretty sure I already examined every inch of that cave, and I even found the shield...just not the key).
I've been wondering about that too, Can't find.
^ That key can be found in a pot where Laine fought off those bandits. Quite a lot of items can be found when looking into barrels/pots etc.

As for the bandit's key, it's just needed to open those chests. You can go back to that area by going through the side entrance of the abandoned shrine. Nothing really remarkable about it.

About the beastiary, I doubt the player will get a 100% complete rate, because somewhere along the line I may have messed up the coding a bit. I only got 85% of them on my last save. And I'm quite sure there are a number of hidden bugs/glitches in the game, but I doubt any of them are game-breaking.

Anything that gets reported here as a bug, I'll be sure to fix up for the Vol I and II release.

But hey, the SNES version of FF6 had over 160 documented bugs, and most players still regard it as the greatest RPG ever. XD
Yeah, I've tried every pot in that cavern with the bandits (more than once to be sure) and It's not giving me the bandits key. You sure it didn't become bugged at some point? I know I got the vanguards shield (had it before you posted actually) from that cavern, but the key is nowhere to be found.

As far as bugs go, I posted a few but they are on previous pages now. Testing is something I do alot of, so I'll track down all those bugs for ya.

Cant disagree on that last point about ff6 (although I have an affinity toward 5 and 9 myself). Six lost points for me because I couldn't get into it after the overworld changed.
Now that I recall, I think I do remember uploading the 'map' of that area so the player could just put the file in the Data folder. Since I'm not playing version 1.3. ><

You know why it wasn't showing up? The freakin' event was set to Below Characters. XD

Actually, here's a list of the maps with updated fixes.

Just replace them. There's a reason I made the game unencrypted. For stuff like this.

Directly clicking those links gives me a page filled with gobbledegook. I dont know why, but it won't directly download the files.

If the links aren't auto downloading then try right clicking and choosing 'save as' or 'save link as' depending on what kind of browser you're using.
Yeah I had the same problem in firefox.

Damn it...even with the fix it still isn't giving me the bandits key >.>.

Edit: No idea why replacing all the maps didn't fix that for me, but since it is unencrpyted I just went in and manually changed it to same as character.

Edit: Found another bug. In the town of camhail at the golden doubloon shop, there is a minor inconsistency. In the shop they sell telian but on the shop list to the left it says they sell thor rods.

Yet another edit: Been exploring a bit and found another bug. In varva, if you leave the inn, it spawns you two spaces to the left in the wrong place, if that makes any sense.

Another edit: Found a mysterious looking pot that isn't giving me a message at all, and I am assuming it's the same below character as before. I doubt it gives me anything important, but its a broken pot in a very tiny room in the ulster caves (west).

edit: I just finished the eos shrine and got the scene with leonidas. The reason i mention this is because I had gotten the scene with leonidas earlier in the game, so I assume either this one, or the earlier one is a glitch. I think this second one is a glitch, because I just got dropped off in the port town where I got it the first time.

Edit: So I just completed my first hunt and here are my thoughts. The hunts themselves seem fine, but I think once you complete one, it should disappear from the board. As the hunts increase, you could very well get confused on which ones you already completed, and which ones you haven't

Edit: In ulaid forest, on the first screen, there is a chest that doesn't have the open animation after you have already opened it (meaning it closes back).

Final Edit!: Finished the game, as well as all of the hunts. I found the game itself pretty easy between sigluds eclipse, pats light spell/full party heal (when hes available), and everyone elses defense ignoring skills. One thing I found is I literally never used the knights or laines magic based skills, since I never put any points into buffing magic. It made using magic attacks on them virtually useless. Fairly good game though, and I hope to see a greater challenge in volume 2. Good luck with the project!
Ah, thanks for those bug reports, demonlord. And yes, the game is quite easy if the player keeps abusing Siggy's Eclipse and Cil's Piercing Thrust/Impale. As for magic skills, I buffed Laine's MAG stat in prep for Vol II, since with the Life Ring obtained in Varva, she'll end up being a healer as well, since Pat is AWOL.

I really need to nerf Eclipse and Pat's dual-strike Aureola spell. The bosses will have more immunities, too. So no more MaxHP down from Eclipse or Expose from Cil's Ilian Spear. XD

Those bugs will be fixed, minor as they are. =)
author=amerk: Even games like Enelysion, Star Stealing Prince, and Altered Legend get hated on from time to time. I'm playing Sweet Lily Dreams now, and there's still plenty of spite against that game simply for being made in RPG Maker, and that game is professionally well done.

Well, that makes me happy. =)

Just finished part 1... SOOOO disappointed when it told me it was the end of the game... and then there was one more battle, then I started to get excited again!... and then it ended...

Looking forward to the next part, and I'll try to get a review out this summer! (I still have a ton in the pipe that I need to finish...)
I am quite close to finishing Vol II ( another 3 hours should do it ) which would bring the game's total playtime to around 13 or so hours if the player transfers over their save file. =)

Seems I'm pretty good at my cliffhangers. XD

Oh, wow! Really? Do you mean, like... 3 hours of work, or 3 hours of game time?

Either way, WOW that's amazing, you are amazing, BE PROUD. <3
3 hours of game time. nhubi asked a similar question earlier. :D But I'm working on Tristian for a bit now ( 7.5 hours in on that baby ). And I'm still waiting for updates on Origin and Riftwalker from you. XD

Woohoo!! *fluffs out pom poms*

And hrrrm, dunno if I'll have any Riftwalker updates any time soon, but I'll defs have some sort of Origin update soon/eventually! I'm doing lots of, uhhh... ~behind the scenes~ work that's very interesting to talk about but spoils everything and also isn't interesting to look at. (WRITING, AUGH)

BUT THIS IS YOUR GAME PAGE i'll take my self indulgent rambling elsewhere. OTL
I'll wait patiently then. XD

Happy dance. ^^

10 hours...woot!
Yeah, and this is from my Vol I save where I cleared it at 6h30min. So anyone whose save has extended into the 8-9 hr mark for Vol I can easily see that timer hitting 14-15 hours. XD
