THE Captain's Log #73 - We're back boys!

Hello, captain to the speak!

Dayum, it's been so long and I've been blogging in my site (not very often but yes). So as a silly little thing, and to feel that I have more to talk about than what I do have new, let's do a small recap. I will link my site because I have no decency!

The first thing, which happened about an entire year ago, was finishing up with widescreen. Game now runs either in 4:3 or widescreen. This setting is not smart so you gotta pick whichever you prefer. I also default to 4:3. Yes, in 2026.


Some maps required adjustments to work well with widescreen.


After finishing with widescreen I started working on features that had to do with the multi-party system. I'm calling it an actual system because it's a collection of features. This system is not available in the current version of the game, as it'll be covered in the "chapter 1". Current released version includes prologue only for now. Yes, 4 hours of prologue. I swear it's worth the setup. "orz

You control three parties all over the world, one at a time as traditional, but being able to change between them. This is meant to help you cover more ground when doing missions, instead of traveling back and forth between locations.


Yeah, you can say hi to yourself. Maybe one or two things more.


Your parties can "link up" when they're close (the handshake icon in the previous image). This allows parties to help each other in battle. What "help" means is basically the ability to swap the entire party on a sort of relay.


Should I bother with social links? Lol this game is endless...


There's also a new feature for helping parties arrive to destinations you need them to be. The autotravel allows for parties to travel automatically. This is meant to reduce the amount of micromanagement. Currently you can't have all parties on autotravel, and you can only do so with the parties that you are not controlling.


Yes there will be teleports later, I know this is a feature doomed. But I still felt like it was worth to do as QOL.

That's basically for now. Much of the work been things that either I can't show (all these are just FEATURES). Or things that aren't in game, and still work in progress, such as work on coming parts of the story, both as text drafts and WIP cutscenes and missions and so on. But yeah! I've been doing something.

I'm just discovering this game today. Fuckin eh! So will it be in english? (careful, the answer to this question will determine whether I subscribe or not ;P)
Yep, it will. Someday. But compared with how much it will take to be an actual game, translating it will take one zillionth of that time <3.

The only nitpick is the pillow shading in your last screen which is too bad as it takes away from the general quality of the art.

Can you elaborate about the pillow shading part please? Not as what it is, I know that, but where. o.o
And yep, all is made by me. And the palettes I use I think are part of me xD. I like to do a lot of hue shading, using yellow as highlight and purple as shades <3.

EDIT 2:Also, I think those bars above the characters are too much. I'd put them at the bottom to make the screen not so busy.

EDIT 3: You should submit your game to VREC on tig. I'd gadly make a video proviging feedback about your game provided that you're willing to do the same in return.

Ah! Now I see it, didn't thought about considering those sprites. They're quite old, and for the sake of progress I tend to stay away of old sprites (unless my eyes hurt badly, which happened with some other old sprites).
I still need to do something about those bars then "orz. Maybe I'll throw them to the bottom, and just add the small faces (only seen at the saving screen right now by the way) to the side of each one. My initial idea was to compact everything but keeping it the same for enemies and allies.
Wow, the VREC is kind of like the Secret Santa Review, but between two people. It's a nice initiative. I think I like the idea, and I'll be thinking about giving it a try (more about when, because I've been kind of busy, but would love to participate). BTW you should spread the idea over here too!
I don't know which spreadsheet you're talking about but yes, I'll check it out if I find it.
Sorry to hear you've been struggling, boss. This is my first time seeing this game, and it looks amazing. I'm definitely going to download and play soon.

We all have our projects that will haunt us for decades, lol. Only continue if it's still rewarding to you.
Yeah, don't worry, this game is gonna live longer than me.

Living is a struggle anyway. So there's nothing bad with that. I still love doing this.

There's still quirks I kinda want to get back and do something about, like I'm not entirely fond of how the transparent gradients look against the text XD, but when you spend more than 2 days fixing the CSS I think it's enough, lol. Gotta make the rest of the game. xDDD
On map 43 identified as "INN - Main", the character (Graph Armando) could stay in a fixed direction because when he looks up to talk to the player he becomes another character.
Yeah, that guy used to be at a place where he could only face left or right, but I changed the map a bit. And I was lazy and didn't finish his up and down graphics.



I'll do those directions later, that should fix that. Thanks for the report!
EDIT: Done, someday I'll update the game. Someday...
