In Vagabond, you control a young member of the Adventurer's Guild who often travels far beyond what is considered, well, reasonable. This time, our hero has stumbled upon a land called Granti, which is home to seven unique "Zones" that each have different characteristics and creatures wandering about. Granti is not your average ordinary land, though, as it is cursed. To return home, the "vagabond" must navigate through each zone to defeat a powerful monster in each one. The journey doesn't have to be made alone, however.

Accompanying our hero is a curious monster who shows a strange affection to people. This monster, who is at first just a lowly slime, can change its form throughout the course of the journey with the help of a few sages scattered across the land. But, will the vagabond and the monster be strong enough to defeat all of the fiends and save Granti from its impending doom? Only you can decide.

Gameplay

1. Challenging battles that are initiated by enemy touch on the overworld. Sometimes the smart thing is to avoid them when you can!

2. Open-ended, non-linear gameplay where you can explore almost any zone not too long after the starting point.

3. A heavy focus on exploration. Even more so than battles, exploration will be the most rewarding aspect of this game.

4. An "Augment" system where you can "equip" spells and other effects to use in battle, but at the cost of certain stats.

5. Non-traditional growth mechanics! These involve using special stones that you can buy from the menu and fighting optional bosses to grow stronger and learn new skills.

6. Transform your monster! At certain points throughout the game(if you can find them), you can choose certain options that will transform your loyal pet into different forms as well as grant some special effects to it. There will be over 40 different kinds of possible monsters that your beast can transform into.

Update! Both game-wise and life-wise.

I've decided to release a little update for Vagabond, adding something I've wanted to add for a while. Here are the changes this update brings:

- Various typos and errors have been corrected.
- Because I'm such a nice guy, you can now save just before the optional Venia fight during the monster arena.
- Credits, taken verbatim from the text file included with the game, have been added to the ending screen in the form of scrolling text.
- This is the big one: I've added back in the cut dungeon that acted as the game's final dungeon in the beta. The dungeon is now optional, however, and can be accessed once Venia is defeated(look for her in the final area). Completing the dungeon, which is no easy feat according to the testers, will unlock a more powerful version of the final boss as well as a secret scene in the ending. The rest of the story and gameplay remains the same.

So that's the 2.3 update for Vagabond, but what's been happening in my life? Why haven't I been at all active(besides lurking)?

Well, in late 2014 I had a bad bout of depression. I dropped out of my college classes and later quit my job. After the new year I was starting to feel a bit better, but felt stuck in the dingy, bible belt town I grew up in. So after a lot of hesitation but eventually support from my sister and my mom, who was fighting cancer, I left the nest to move to a big city.

I was too focused on adjusting to life in my new place to worry about game making. New job, new hobbies, new friends... Then in February, I moved back to my hometown to help take care of my mom, whose cancer had gotten worse despite fighting so hard. I figured, once she got out of the hospital, she'd need me around more than ever.

Well... She didn't make it. She died in April of 2016. It's been hard, and my family and I are all still healing. Since then, life hasn't been getting much better. I've been living with my dad, which isn't ideal for many reasons, and my depression has come back too. I can't be depressed forever, though, so I'm going to try and do something again that I've had a hard time with lately: create. Starting with this small update to a game already completed, to hopefully many more projects in the future. Basically what I'm trying to say is, I'm back. Hopefully.

Welp, thanks for taking the time to read this, and enjoy the new Vagabond update if you decide to play it.

Yay! :D

I'm looking forward to it!
Is there any other use for the Awesome Badge or is it just a trophy for beating Venia?
why is there no normal attack? are you telling me that when i have a stick in my hand i get silenced i will just guard? can i not use the stick to hit the enemies? I've been building my pet as physical damage type but when they don't hit him, it just guards; when it gets silenced it just guards... kinda frustrating right?

You can heal the silence with a Potion. :)

There's also not a huge amount of silence casting enemies in the game.

Nope. It's just a trophy, haha.
seriously no normal attack is a waste of turn when your lucky enough to meet an enemy and have no TP at all. been trying to play with a wolf and an alche but it is just frustrating to have to always guard when no TP at beginning of battle. why is it that you even make physical attack types weaker than magic types when magic types only have a hard time at beginning due to lack of mana and spells.

You do have a point here. However, you will be heavily rewarded in the end for buffing up your Alchemist's attack. Both Druid and Alchemist have multi-attack and power-attack skills that are learned later by shapeshifters that really pack a punch, even more than if they specialized in magic. Astrologist and Magician, on the other hand, benefit more from a magical growth regimen. The monster can go either way, and will likely not suffer too much no matter what choices you make with its growth, heh (although some methods are better than others depending on what creature you have currently, obviously).

As for magic being less inhibiting to use, I see your point there too. I tried to balance this by making MP upgrades the most expensive. Whenever you buy two MP upgrades, you miss out on two upgrades for another stat. Whenever you find an MP upgrade in a chest, there's always the temptation to sell it for the full price of another upgrade. Similarly, all the money that goes towards Vials when you're playing a mage could go towards, say, attack upgrades for another class. Also, Fury Tonics are pretty cheap and solve pretty much any immediate TP problem.

One of the main things about Vagabond, though, is that the system is not perfect. However, there are also many ways to play the game. If you wanted to upgrade nothing but HP and Defense/Spirit for the entire game, it will probably work. Same with something like Attack/Intelligence/Speed.

Or you could find all the sages/shapeshifters early on and breeze through the game. :P
Stuck. Went to the Gorgoral (sp?) swamp, and a character told me about a secret path to the Lonely Forest. Found the secret path into the Lonely Forest and defeated one of the fiends there. Now I cannot get back out of the Lonely Forest and back into the swamp. Help.

Use the Gate Orb Item, the one that you got from the guard at South Gate. It's in the Key Items section. There's one other warp point where you'll have to do this as well.
Just started playing, but I have to get this off my chest: The kerning of your "m" character is horrible. It looks like an entire space. Is there a way to fix that?

E: Owl and Alchemist, going attack style Alchemist. Holy cow is Stephan absurdly difficult. The battle was going well when he did over half the health of both my guys in one shot.

I'm...not sure what you mean by this, and no one has mentioned this before. Can you maybe show me a screenshot of what you're talking about? Sorry, I'm just dumb, haha.

EDIT: Okay, I just started up the game, and I think I see what you mean. I don't think there's a fix unless I change the font itself. That doesn't seem really worth it though, since I have never even noticed it until now and no one else has complained about it.

Nice! Alchemist's definitely benefit from ATK buffs, as I mentioned before.

Holy cow is Stephan absurdly difficult. The battle was going well when he did over half the health of both my guys in one shot.

Stephan starts casting Eruption randomly after half of his health is gone. Obviously this hurts, but if you attack hard with one character and heal hard with another, that should probably do the trick. Also, the bosses get harder...mwahaha.

If all else fails, though, you could always explore around a bit. There are a lot of things to find in other zones that don't require any fighting.
Yeah, bosses aren't meant to be cakewalks. I'll just work on him later.
Norman where exactly do you need help? Can you describe the puzzle?
It seems like many people get stuck at the Crystal Cavern, haha. But yeah, I need to know what part you're at before I can help.
Ive been in and out of that damn place 4-5 times and seem to be running around in circles. I get the impression I have missed something obvious. I want to get through it so I can continue on with the game. I have set the orb in all the places that I can see and killed all the critters...at least the ones I can find.
Seems others have been having troubles with it.

In hindsight, I probably should have put an Explorer's Tips sign there or something. XD

That was originally going to be the place where you find the Gate Orb, which is why it's set up as it is.
I am still stuck in that damned ice cave.

Lol, I no the feeling. I just hate puzzles though. The ice one is very nicely done though. Zeuzio needs to start making another game already, instead of reading this...:)
