Progress Report

May 1st Progress Report

Hello everyone! :D It's been around a month and a half since I've brought out the game progress meter, so let's look at it again!

I'm aiming to put out another playable demo around half-way through the game (or maybe a little less), so it'll probably be after I finish Parvian and the Parvian temple, or perhaps somewhere in the Swirling Sands. I'll keep everyone posted as we get closer!

^_^ Thanks so much for your support and patience!

Progress Continues. Also look out for: New Artist!

Work on Luxaren Allure is still going, slowly but surely. I almost have Pehl Mountain done, making all the tiles for the ruined workshop there is a little more time-consuming than I expected. Add that to the fact that I'm juggling this and another project, and that explains my slower speed. Never fear, I'm still hard at work and the next LA update is on the way.

When it comes to feedback, one of the biggest areas that I'm told need improvement are the faces and character art in general. It doesn't help that I myself am not satisfied with my art skills in that regard XD;; To make things look more polished in that area, I'm investing some money in a talented artist who will be redrawing the faces and character art. I'll leave their identity a mystery for now as we're still working out the details, but I'm sure everyone will like the improvement :D

Moving Forward

It's been a few days since the new rewritten demo was released, so I thought I'd take a moment to talk about how I'm going to do blogs about the game's progress from this point forward.

I'm going to use a picture with a completion bar much like the one I did when the demo was in-progress, but I'll be using locations as the gauge for how far along in the game I've made, meaning if the bar is filled to a certain location that all work on that location is finished and playable. Here's how it looks right now:

The names of future locations are subject to change, of course, but here you can see the entire list of planned locations in the game. I'll be updating this as work on the game is completed.

Also, if anyone else has any feedback on the rewritten demo (or, heck, just the newly added prologue), I'd still love to hear your comments, so please let me know :D

New Demo (With All New Prologue!)

Here it is! The new version of the demo is here! Most of the improvements went to the writing, and a new prologue has been added so you can, you know, actually get to know the person Karuna wants to save.

A big thanks to Red Nova, who helped as both a tester and writing editor!

I tried to address most of the criticisms with this one. Please let me know what you think! Thanks, and enjoy! ^_^

Game Design

Redone Demo Progressing Smoothly

Hello everyone! Work continues steadily on the rewritten demo. Most of the writing is actually already done (thanks to Red Nova again for all of the help! :D ) but new tilesets and graphics have to be drawn for the new scenes. Here's an example of one, the outside of Castle Darkloft, finally revealed!

I'm hoping the whole thing won't take me too much longer, but even after I've finished, I'm going to have the whole thing thoroughly tested to make sure everything runs smoothly.

I'm also trying to fix a few points with the battle system. I want, for example, character sprites to glow or otherwise be highlighted on their turn to make it clearer whose turn it is each action. I'm also looking for a way to make poison non-lethal, so that poisoned enemies and characters still have to be finished off by other methods. If you have any knowledge or ideas of how to do either of these things, please let me know. I'd be really grateful! ^_^

Thanks so much for everyone's continued patience, and I'm looking forward to putting out a demo that can be even more enjoyable!

Still At Work on Demo Rewrite with New Prologue

I uploaded a new version of the demo, but it just addresses some bugs and doesn't contain any new content. I'm still working on the re-write and the new prologue, and the prologue needs an area that I hadn't done yet to be completed, so I'm drawing the tileset for it as well.

Given that I've got so much going on right now, I can't really give an estimate of how long it'll take, but I'll let everyone know as soon as it's done! Thanks everyone! :D

EDIT: The download I put up earlier today, version 0.5, had an NPC that was made to warp to a part of the game I was testing. Unfortunately, I forgot to remove that NPC when I uploaded the new version. I have fixed this and uploaded the new version, v 0.6. Thanks ^^;;

The Next Step

First off, I want to give a big thanks to everyone who played the initial Luxaren Allure demo! In a very short time, I've gotten a ton of great feedback on the blog pages, the main gamepage, and through PMs.

There have been so many great suggestions about how to improve the game, my next step is going to be to do some heavy polishing and rewriting on the demo. While I'll be tweaking the graphics and gameplay, the part I got the most feedback about changing is the writing, so that will be the main focus of the reworked demo.

A huge shout out and thanks to Red Nova, who's offered to help me with the writing/plot. (Also check out his game, Soul Sunder, which is also at the demo stage and is shaping up into something really cool!)

I'll leave the current demo up for anyone who wants to play, just be aware that I'll be doing a major overhaul to it and will update the download as soon as I'm done! :D

Luxaren Allure Demo Fixes! Important!

I didn't expect to have a fixed version out so soon, but thankfully Red_Nova pointed out a game-breaking bug that I had missed! I've fixed that, so if you've already downloaded this game, please redownload it, or at least don't go to the inn in the first town (I'm so embarrassed that I messed that up!).

Other changes are warning signs in front of bosses to let you know they're coming up and some typo fixes and a line-formatting fix.

Sorry about not having playtested well enough, and thanks for your patience!

Luxaren Allure Demo is Here!

The very first demo is live and ready for download! Here's some information on it:

The playtime is around an hour and a half to two hours long.

Known Bugs:

The sprites of enemies who die due to poison still stay on the battlefield.

Karuna only swings one time when using her "There Will Be Blood" skill.

Things I Want To Improve:

Dialog needs polishing.

Interiors need their mapping polished.

In battle, I'd like the player's character sprites to glow or something when it's their turn, to make things a bit clearer. (Not sure how to do this; I'll probably need to ask for help on the forums).

***

This is the first time I've released an RPG (demo or otherwise) that I've made so I'm very curious to see what people think. Please feel free to send me any comments or suggestions about the game, and let me know how the difficulty feels.

Thanks very much every one! :D

Luxaren Allure Demo Within A Week (Hopefully ^_^;; )

With the latest dungeon complete, the gameplay for the Luxaren Allure demo is now firmly past the hour mark, which means it has enough gameplay for me to release. However, I'm going to attempt to polish the maps, battles, and battle sprites a little bit before I release it (some of the character battle sprites are still missing animations, for example).

There's been a lot of interest in seeing the demo, so I'm going to try to release it within a week. If something unforeseen happens, it might take a little longer, but I'm hoping for no longer than two weeks at the absolute latest.

Thanks everyone!
