“I want to return.”

Have you ever made a mistake you regretted so much that you wish it possible to turn back time? That memory will never release you from its agonizing grasp for the rest of your life. But even if the present gave you the privilege to relive the past, would you have the strength to confront it? Or would your sins damn you into oblivion?

In our remake of Castle Oblivion, we've done a complete overhaul: Story, Character Development, Maps, and Gameplay worthy of current RPG players. The Castle welcomes newcomers and old-timers alike. And if you played the original, you’ll definitely want to revisit the Castle again.

Story Synopsis:
Vincent and Azen, two knights stuck in the rain, discovered a strange Castle. Their host was gracious enough to offer permanent refuge by kidnapping Azen with an overwhelming power. Not wanting to be next, Vincent abandoned his friend. After drifting through decades of guilt and wanting to redeem himself, the Castle returned. Vincent will find new friends and foes as he traverses the Castle’s memory-made worlds to rescue Azen, but can everyone overcome the shameful past?

Features:
- A rewritten and more expanded take on the original plot. Filled with tons of BANG!
- Re-balanced battles, designed for an enjoyable challenge, rather than frustration.
- Remade, detailed maps filled with variety. Makes the Castle feel more deep and alive than ever before!
- Stronger development for the different characters in the game.
- Save anywhere!
- Interesting and creative puzzles to solve!
- Rescue other trapped souls from the Castle!
- Find Recovery Crystals, which you can either use to heal or break for stat-increasing items!
- Witness Vincent's hometown, Port Brinks, evolve as the story progress.
- Lots of secret rooms and treasure are rewarded for the dedicated explorer.
- Optional Bosses and Dungeons to test your might and uncover more information about the game's world and characters.

Castle Oblivion: Remake is now on Game Jolt!

Yo-yo-yo! I've finally decided to take my next step as a developer to join the somewhat huge indie website called Game Jolt! The first game I have posted is this one (mainly since it's the game I'm most proud of so far). You can check it out right here: Castle Oblivion: Remake - Game Jolt Edition.

I also want to let you guys know that I am indeed working on my 5th game ATM, which should be revealed pretty soon (it's a pretty short game, so it won't take too long for it to release either!). If you're a fan of Adventure games, then make sure to stay tuned!

Thanks for all of the support and kind comments so far! I really feel like I need to do something to celebrate for the amount of downloads the game have received. Keep it real, yo, and I'll see ya soon!

First Impressions:

I liked the pace of intro/story coupled with the gameplay. It feels severe and keeps me wondering what's going to happen next.
This is the first Castle Oblivion I've played and first game of yours I've played. So I'm not sure if there is something I'm
missing story-wise, but I feel in the loop, I'm immersed in this setting and story.
I've always loved the "flashbacks" parts of games, especially when those areas are playable. The look back strengthens the experience
for me as well that it set everything up and after Azen's disappearance, I like seeing the future, the years after where Vincent is
aging and sort of reclused.

LOVE the town. I had fun walking around and talking with people, NPCs who actually have useful stuff to say as well as bog standard NPC problems
and some funny stuff mixed in! All the while the thought of the castle looms and knowing once you leave this bright, open and lively place you
will be returning to darkness and doubt.

I like the music, not sure if it's standard RTP fare as I'm not super familiar with all the bgms in vx ace yet.
It reminds me of FF9, which I like.

For RTP tiles, I like your mapping! It's tight and full which I like, but can also open up and encourage exploration. Which paid off since I found some chests!

I've only played past the graveyard a little bit, but I like the game! It's hard, so you have to play smart and I like that.
I'm having a hard time pegging what this game would be considered. It's creepy, a bit trippy but has its moments that acts like none of that is true.
It's other-worldy, I guess is the best way to put it.

I have yet to find any mapping errors, or passable events and believe me I'm checking! So i'll just try different things when I pick up the game again.

These notes were just jotted down as I played, but I'll play it again and I have to say I enjoyed it so far!
Man, your comment made my Christmas. I'm very glad that you're enjoying the game so much, even though you're still at the early parts of the game.

I've also enjoyed revisiting old areas in a game much later on when you're a lot more powerful. I'm really glad to have something like this happen in the game right from the get-go!

The music is mainly from Kingdom Hearts, composed by Yoko Shimomura, which I take no credit for of course. This is still a remake of a very old give, and I really tried to keep it true to the original while feeling fresh at the same time.

Good thing you enjoy exploring, since it will definitely be worth it in this game. The game will get a lot harder later on, which means that resource management will become crucial in a way.

The Castle Oblivion games are really weird to be honest; they are dungeon crawlers, they have deep stories, they have puzzles and exploration, they are dark and bright... It's truly hard to describe this kind of game, let alone put it under a label. Most of the time, this sort of blend would result in a messy game not having a clear identity of what it's trying to be.
Still, despite this, I believe that all these things combined result in a unique and interesting experience.

Again, thanks for playing and sharing your thoughts on it. I'd love to hear more from you as you get further! :)
So i just started playing your game, and i have to tell you,as soon as i heard the kingdom hearts soundtrack,i nearly flipped out. Its so perfect now,and i thank you for putting in the soundtrack to make my gameplay even more enjoyable. I enjoyed it so much that i made this account just so i can comment on how you gave me so much nostalgia. Thank you! <3

All the way from Jamaica.
You made my Christmas!

@Luii- I'm glad brother!

I'll come back and leave some more thoughts after getting deeper into the game :)
@rexaka: Wow! I did not expect you to be so happy about the KH music. Most people think it detracts from the game, which I understand. I wanted to keep the original game's music though, and I suppose it was choice good made. Thanks and I hope you have a good Christmas yourself!

@InfectionFiles: Awesome! Can't wait to hear more.
So far so good. I managed to clear the first floor. This game is difficult and i noticed that it requires a lot of grinding to be able to proceed because each new map you go on the enemies (example; you fight 2 skeletons in the graveyard, the next map will be 3 skeletons) increase into larger groups. Otherwise the game seems to be fine and i haven't seen any problems except for one.

Tikal: Her mana drain; It doesn't seem do what its suppose to (or so i think its suppose to),meaning that even though it takes 0 mana, after i executed the skill, the skill didn't recharge her mana and i almost ended up getting killed (damn wraiths).

The games seems fine overall and im at the beach so about to go on yet another grind fest (i dont mind grinding at all in "this" game).

I found the same thing as rexaka but did not say anything cause I thought I was wrong and did not want to appear to be a weiner :(
@rexaka: I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far. This game does get harder the further you proceed (not always in numbers though, like the increase in skeletons you mentioned).

Mana Drain isn't supposed to refill ALL of Tikal's MP. Are you saying that she got 0 MP back in return? I suppose that could happen if you're under-leveled (your SPI might be too low). Grinding should not be necessary, unless you skip most/all battles and don't upgrade your gear. Using stat-increasing items, like Mana Up, is very important as well. Most of the time though, everything will depend on your strategy; what skills you use, when and how you heal, when to guard and when to hit hard etc.

Thanks for your feedback, Rexaka the reviewer!

@Linkis: You noticed the weak Mana Drain too? Don't ever be afraid of letting me know what you think of the game, whether it be something good or bad news. I'm very grateful for critique, since I know that no game is completely perfect, let alone suited for all kinds of player. I try to take all feedback that I get into account and use it to make my games even better (hopefully). :)

Also, I know that some players might think the game is too difficult for them. Like CO3, I enjoy games that can challenge the player; I want to make the player think hard and get rewarded from doing so. If the player tries to button-mash through the game, then yes, it will be quite difficult.

However, I've had plans on making an Easy version of the game, suited for players mostly interested in the story than combat. It might happen, but I think it's a bit early ATM to make such a decision.

It's OK luiishu, I'm a grinder from way back :)
I enjoy getting stronger by grinding and finding upgrades and buying new armor and weapons...

Then I go kick the crap out of some monsters until I get killed :( then it's off
to the grinding board again which I don't mind :)
Well, in that case I'm just glad that you're able to play the game like you want to. It feels good to be super powerful, doesn't it? ;) Don't forget to keep your eyes open for treasure! There are lots of treasure chests and gold here and there, just waiting to be found! ^^

Ya I'm going to update my review, working on Glacia Atm.
That's awesome! I really can't wait for it! :) Good luck with Glacia and let me know if you need some testing done. ;)

Yes,she doesn't get back any mana in return at all. Its like i'm throwing away my turn for an effect that does completely nothing.

Grinding is pretty much required in my opinion and i didn't skip any of my battles. Yes i did upgrade my equipment (after i grind for some money ofcourse). I have been using the stat-increasing items once i got them so i don't think that's my problem.

I am level 8 with both Vincent and Tikal, level 7 with Hanz (cause he was that level when i got him) and i am on the second floor.

I hate looking like i'm a bother, but you did intend the game to be difficult and by all means,i am not complaining,i am actually happy that an rpg like this challenges me to such extent, doesn't old my hand for a second, and that is what i truly enjoy about this title. I will continue to play the game and report anything else i collapse into.

Waiting to see your new project

Have you tried to use mana drain on any other enemies besides the wraiths? If it doesn't work at all on any enemies, then it must be a really a weird bug (this has never happened before).

It was my intent to make this game challenging/hard. The biggest aspect in battle is to de-buff the enemy (Fire lowers ATK, for example). I'm glad you're enjoying the challenge though!

You're definitely not a bother, more like the opposite in fact. I love hearing from my players of what they think about my game. It helps me a lot to improve and make even better games in the future and of course, it makes my day to hear from people who enjoy my game. :)

Thanks for your sharing your thoughts, rexaka!

The game just reached over 1000 downloads and I want to thank everyone with a big WoohOooO!
I'd make a blog about this if I could draw to save my life. With that, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 2015 was great, but I'm sure that 2016 will be even greater!

Do you mean the Golden Butterfly? It's near the Butterfly River, southeast of the Bandit Stronghold.
