“I want to return.”

Have you ever made a mistake you regretted so much that you wish it possible to turn back time? That memory will never release you from its agonizing grasp for the rest of your life. But even if the present gave you the privilege to relive the past, would you have the strength to confront it? Or would your sins damn you into oblivion?

In our remake of Castle Oblivion, we've done a complete overhaul: Story, Character Development, Maps, and Gameplay worthy of current RPG players. The Castle welcomes newcomers and old-timers alike. And if you played the original, you’ll definitely want to revisit the Castle again.

Story Synopsis:
Vincent and Azen, two knights stuck in the rain, discovered a strange Castle. Their host was gracious enough to offer permanent refuge by kidnapping Azen with an overwhelming power. Not wanting to be next, Vincent abandoned his friend. After drifting through decades of guilt and wanting to redeem himself, the Castle returned. Vincent will find new friends and foes as he traverses the Castle’s memory-made worlds to rescue Azen, but can everyone overcome the shameful past?

Features:
- A rewritten and more expanded take on the original plot. Filled with tons of BANG!
- Re-balanced battles, designed for an enjoyable challenge, rather than frustration.
- Remade, detailed maps filled with variety. Makes the Castle feel more deep and alive than ever before!
- Stronger development for the different characters in the game.
- Save anywhere!
- Interesting and creative puzzles to solve!
- Rescue other trapped souls from the Castle!

Castle Oblivion: Remake is now on Game Jolt!

Yo-yo-yo! I've finally decided to take my next step as a developer to join the somewhat huge indie website called Game Jolt! The first game I have posted is this one (mainly since it's the game I'm most proud of so far). You can check it out right here: Castle Oblivion: Remake - Game Jolt Edition.

I also want to let you guys know that I am indeed working on my 5th game ATM, which should be revealed pretty soon (it's a pretty short game, so it won't take too long for it to release either!). If you're a fan of Adventure games, then make sure to stay tuned!

Thanks for all of the support and kind comments so far! I really feel like I need to do something to celebrate for the amount of downloads the game have received. Keep it real, yo, and I'll see ya soon!

Yeah, the Ice Temple dungeon was good. Easily the best part of the floor, and the puzzles were nice.

As for the riddle on floor 4, I'll be honest, I just solved that puzzle by guessing numbers. XD I got how to solve it properly, but I didn't feel like running around the whole room checking the tombstones again and noting what they say (cuz my short term memory can be awful at times lol) The riddle itself seemed quite good, though.

And yes, if you do make a horror game, please limit the jump scares. IMO jump scares are cheap and their effect wears off quickly, especially if you use them all the time. Maybe put in 1 or 2 good jumpscares that are built up to over a period of time, with the primary horror coming from just a generally creepy and unsettling atmosphere.

I myself would like to make a horror one of these days, though I am not experienced in using RPG Maker at all. I'm still learning triggers, but, a friend of mine is actually gonna tutorial me on some stuff, so maybe I could experiment and make a little something eventually.
Okay, a bug on the second screen of the Deep Void: Entering the small building just a bit north-east from the entrance causes you to pop out of the Scientific Residence in the upper left corner of the room.
Well, I've officially completed the game.

Overall, it was a fun experience. I'm actually not sure which I like better, this, or CO3. As far as gameplay goes, this one is definitely superior, with a more balanced difficulty, and I liked how you could buy Overdrives and unlock new skills via the library. Port Town's little changes as the story progressed were interesting, too.

I feel like I enjoyed the general story of CO3 more, though. While you did a great job expanding the story of the original game here, I just felt CO3's story was much more "mysterious" and entertaining. Granted, this might be because this is a re-telling of a story I've already seen, whereas CO3's was original. I also liked the actual castle in CO3 more, as it was much larger and was kind of a giant dungeon itself.

As far as visuals go, this remake takes the cake. There's way, way more objects and environmental detail put into this. I especially like how the port town looks, for some reason. Just seems very cozy and homey. :P

Music wise...Eh. I feel like the KH soundtrack doesn't really fit the areas or characters, for the most part. However, I understand that you kept these in to make it true to the original game, so I can respect that. I'm pretty sure I heard some non-KH music which wasn't in the original game, so that was a nice surprise (unless it was and I just don't remember.)

Well, that might have been better off as a review... ._. But anyway, if I had to score it I'd probably give it a 7.5 out of 10 or so! A solid RPG, though after all that dungeon crawling I may need a bit of a break from the dungeon crawler types for a while. xD

(PS....I had no idea bosses were weak to status ailments until you told me. That helped a loooooooooooot against bosses on the last couple floors >.> Poison FTW)
Hello.
I´m gonna play this again soon, i think its a gem.Same with CO3.

I´m curious about how different people plays the same game and i have spend alot of hours with this,so Kyubey did you find:Vincents skill:
Divine cross? It was mostly luck for me.And the bug with the house that spit you out in the snowyfields was little hard to read about because i had that noticed but forget tell.

And i wonder how many secret bosses it is.I got a feeling that i missed one or another.
Really hopes that we"soon" can play a CO2 remake as well.:).
The concept/story is so good.
Keep up the great work Luiishu.

Ah, I thought so. I'll probably leave out the monsters and make the rooms bigger for those kind of puzzles in my upcoming games.

I don't like jump scares, so there probably won't be many of them, or any at all. I'm more interested in making things scary. Jump scares are just a cheap gimmick that's annoying; they're definitely not scary.

RMVXA is a pretty good engine that can get the job done for 2D horror/adventure games. Good luck with it!

Okay, a bug on the second screen of the Deep Void: Entering the small building just a bit north-east from the entrance causes you to pop out of the Scientific Residence in the upper left corner of the room.

Thanks for pointing it out! It has been fixed. :)
@ Kenlan

I believe I fought 4 secret bosses, including.
The Butterfly Witch, the knight that teaches Hans V-Slash,the ghost in the mausoleum that drops the Lost Staff for Tikal, and the ??? guy that teaches Vincent's Divine Cross move. I stumbled onto that particular one while searching for the hexagram boss of floor 10, since it was located in the same area.

@Luiishu535

You're welcome! And yeah, if you don't wanna put any jump scares into a horror game at all, that's 100% A-Okay. I'm not complaining :D

Also, I totally forgot about to ask about something....just who is the "???" guy in the item shop at the port? I went back to talk to him several times throughout the game, but all the way up to the end, I could never figure out his purpose. Is he part of a sidequest, or foreshadowing for the next game?

I got to the final floor where i have to try all the doors to kill the various spirits and to have access to the final door . Could I have an indication of where to find the doors in the different levels ? I do not remember where they are. Thank you.
In particular i need help for the doors in level 7-8-9-10,( i have to deactivate light, darkness, thunder and ice hexagram ).
clalbert i maybe can help you a little,if you for example goes to floor 9 but
instead to walk up to floor 9 you goes back down to floor 8 you can just walk straight down and the door are to the left. You cant miss it.I think its easier sometimes to start looking for doors from the end of the floor.

Here are the locations, if you still haven't found them.

Floor 7's door is near the start, in the ice cave. From the start of the floor, go to the 2nd screen of the ice cave, then go right past the chest, and up. You'll find the door just up ahead.

Floor 8's is in the Thunder Temple. Teleport to it, then head down the stairs. It's in the next room.

Floor 9's is very close to the start. As Kenlan said, you can't really miss it, as it is found along the linear path that goes on for the first couple screens. (It is possible to not walk by it, but it's very easy to spot)

Floor 10's can also be found near the start, though it's a bit tricker than thee rest. You need to go back to Vincent's house at the start of the floor, and you'll find a vine leading down. The door is a little ways up ahead...as well as something else.
Have finished this game. Congratulations, is superb!! Have to going to make a sequel? Thanks for all.

Awesome! I'm glad you managed to enjoy this one as well. CO3's ending definitely takes the cake over this one's and I think that is one of the contributing factors for you liking the story better in CO3. CO3 was a lot more lighthearted as well, compared to the reCO's plot about betrayal and morale. I like CO3's overworld a lot more too. It was a lot bigger and there were overall a lot of more things to explore.

I actually think that the music fits like a glove. I wanted to keep the music pretty much the same the as the original in order to give old timers some nostalgia.

Yeah, that probably could've been a review. xD Of course, you can always copy your text and paste it inside the review (just go to the top of the page and click Add Review). You don't have to do it though if you don't want to. Hearing that you enjoyed the game enough to finish it is more than enough for me. My goal with this game, in terms of star-ratings, is to get 4/5 stars. I'm interested to see if I'll be able to achieve that, since I definitely feel that this game is overall a LOT more stable and fine-tuned than CO3. ^^

That man is Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It's just a small easter egg I decided to add for fun. ^^

I will definitely remake CO2 as well, but I will take a small break from the series first to focus on some other things. I'd love to have you as a tester reCO2 when time comes! :)

Thanks for your kind words, kenlan! I'd like to take a small break before attempting a big game again, like reCO2. It will definitely happen though and I'd love to have you test the game out when the time comes. :)

Have finished this game. Congratulations, is superb!! Have to going to make a sequel? Thanks for all.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it. There will be a remake of the second game. In time. :)

Also, thanks everyone for chiming in and helping out here. I was out of town for a day and a half and was therefore unable to reply to any messages here. I'm really grateful for having such friendly and helpful fans. :')

Yeah, no kidding, CO3's ending really took the cake, though I wasn't expecting an ending on par with that for this game, anyway. That one was meant to finish the trilogy, so of course it had to have an amazing ending. Furthermore, I had actually not played CO1 and CO2 at the time I found and played CO3, so I had absolutely no idea what to expect from the story or its characters. Well, when all's said and done, all 3 games will be leading up to that great conclusion, and the Castle Oblivion story as a whole across the 3 games will be epic. :3

I'd gladly help test the CO2 remake when the time comes, so thanks for the offer!
Yeah, you're definitely right about that. CO3 was probably a fresher experience for you then. I might even revisit CO3 after I've finished reCO2 in order to improve on the dialogue and battles. I'll probably add features from the remake, like enabling Auto-Dash etc.

Awesome! You're comments have been very helpful so far. I'm sure that reCO2 will be even better now with a dedicated player like you testing it. Thanks! :)
I'd be great to see CO3 tweaked and re-balanced in the future, for certain!

And you're welcome! I'm glad I was able to help clean up those last few bugs. I suppose that's one of the upsides to my tendency to search every nook and cranny in RPGs c:
Dedicated explorers are definitely welcome as testers. ^^ It's all the little things that count in the end.
