Version D0.42 released!

It’s been a while since the last update. There was quite a lot stuff to take care of (both for the game and in real life). Much like the previous update, it brings small but substantial updates to the game. This time around, it’s engine upgrades and a refresh of the battle UI. Engine wise, I slip-streamed some technical updates (which, sadly, also broke the saves), but should improve the stability of the game. In addition, the launcher got an overhaul. The launcher is now compiled with NativeAOT, which means far faster launch times and better memory usage. The last thing is the introduction of a new feedback system: Pressing Ctrl-Shift-F will bring up a new feedback widget. This should make it easier to send in feedback.

As for the stuff I was working on: I can’t say much at the moment (yet). But I can say this: It has morphed into a different thing that I wasn’t planning. Once it’s ready, I’ll let you know.

Changelog:

Game:

- Technical upgrades in the engine, for better stability.
- The crash screen has been updated.
- A button to copy the error trace to the clipboard has been added.
- A button to restart the game has been added.
- Visual updates.
- The Bug Report option in the title was replaced by the new Feedback widget (opens with Ctrl-Shift-F).
- Updated the battle UI.

Starboard Platform (formerly Northbridge)

- Ported over to Avalonia UI and compiled with NativeAOT.
- Brings massive performance and memory usage improvements.
- The game is also smaller (40MB by Starboard, compared to 100+MB that Northbridge consumed).

The setup file tried and failed to install the .NET Framework, which caused several other programs to stop working. It also keeps trying to restart itself. I've removed it from my computer and will now try if I can manually install the Framework and get things working again.

Did this happen to anybody else?

Also, since when does a VX ACE game need the .NET Framework anyway?

Sorry to hear that you had issues. I was not expecting this. There is a possibility that the OS that you are using may be blocked by the installer (check System Requirements). If it is supported, go ahead and install .NET Framework 4.6 manually.

Microsoft .NET Framework is used by the launcher, which adds additional capabilities (quick load, save manager and more). It is not required for the game.
I installed it manually, apparently the Framework had been installed incomplete, which is why the programs that were running with an older version of it stopped working (I tried to start some that I knew were using it to see if anything had broken). Manually installing it gave me the option to repair it, so now everything is back in working order.

It might be a better idea to link the download for the Framework instead of including it with the game, in case anybody else has those problems.

It was included for convinience.

Edited the description to include the download link and changed the system requirements to reflect both the game and the Framework's requirements.
Hey there! I've been following this project for a little while and I just wanted to say that I've been very impressed by your consistent dedication to your game. Keep up the good work, bro!
About how long does it take to complete the game?

Wow... I just noticed your comment (and your review, I'll comment on it on a later day). There is an option to use OpenGL so the game runs faster, but I can't guarantee that it will help.
I downloaded your demo and it looks and plays fine, I enjoy the characters and the combat, but it gets tedious really fast... still, keep it up!
