Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

To be fair, english is a pretty difficult language to master, and learning another language itself is pretty challenging. Even if someone's grasp on english isn't the strongest, I'm always impressed by people who have the ability to understand more than one language.
Same, ESPECIALLY if it's English, I mean I honestly think if I weren't raised in a primary English speaker I'd probably refuse to learn it based on principal, it's like a hodgepodge of the most confusing parts of every language.

But it's very useful all over the web, so I learned it ^_^ People tell me I have an accent.
Also here's the 3'd part of the let's play https://youtu.be/DqsLUF6C-NI
Hope you all have fun with it ^_^

Spoilers dude! Spoilers! If you want to ask questions while revealing details about the story, just send me an email like usual. I'll answer them via email as well. You have to remember not everyone who reads the comments here has completed the game.
Wow, How Have I not seen this already? This looks really great absolutely amazingly done.

To be fair, english is a pretty difficult language to master, and learning another language itself is pretty challenging. Even if someone's grasp on english isn't the strongest, I'm always impressed by people who have the ability to understand more than one language.

From experience, I can say it highly depends on the age at which you've started learning it. Especially if you're talking about languages in the same language group, most people can fairly easily pick them up when learned starting from a young age.

Also, I'm in love with the fact that English has no genders for words. It makes grammar so incredibly much easier compared to languages like German and French. In someone else's words: "English– no cases, no gender, no word agreement, arguably no grammar. The language is everywhere and can be heard, absorbed and used anywhere. Short words, verbs change only in the third person. Native speakers are very forgiving of mistakes as so many people speak it as a second language. This makes English the easiest foreign language to learn. No tutorials or tutors needed to get off the ground. Just start watching films and listing to music and step out your door and use it, it is in a word, elementary." http://claritaslux.com/blog/easiest-language-learn/

That said, what I find more challenging is expanding my vocabulary. Due to its long history, it feels like English has a near limitless supply of words that are rarely used, yet possess a unique charm to them when used in certain contexts. Those are just my two cents on the topic though.
As promised here is my first episode:

To wheelman
Yo guillaume! I'm gonna answer through an email to avoid spoilerocity.
Hey Wheelman Slight Early Game Spoilery question.

What Level do you recommend for the first fight with Alicia? And What Summon do you recommend using? I got my butt kicked in the Vid I'm gonna post Friday, here are my party levels;
-Pandora Lvl 6
-Draco(nus) Lvl 6
-Chimera Lvl 1
-Lanith Lvl 1
I know I'm probably gonna have to grind a bit, but I don't want to overlevel.

Anyhoo Loving the game so far, looking forward to recording more of it this weekend!
I haven't seen them yet, but I've been looking forward to yours and Owmeeye's vids all day. It made my day at work so much easier. Here's my spoilery response to your spoilery question.

Chimera is the way to go. He's a tank and he hits hard, so he can take a few slashes to the face before going down. He doesn't have to be at that high a level, but if you can get him to learn his next attack, he'll be much more effective. At level 6, he'll tear through Alexa like tissue paper. Might wanna level Lanith a bit too since her healing spell is useful, but she's about as sturdy as a wet graham cracker.
Hey yo Wheelman, this game is rad as fuck, I mean I haven't had as much fun when playing rpgmaker games before, but yours is just too good.
Being able to play as the villain of the game is like a dream coming true.
I made an account just to let you know you have a new fan for your amazing game.
Also, maybe spoiler...
Since grinding for levels is what I do, I managed to defeat that Athena girl with slight ease (I level up pandora and lanith like crazy, and giving them those dharc potions too), so is it posible if you update the game so that when I beat her it'll feel like I'm the badass of a villain, y'know, since I love being a badass of a villain.

Anyway that is all from me, looking forward to that new game you try'na make, though a bit dissapointed since we will play as the hero in that next game... but still, maybe it'll be one of the best game series in rpgmaker gaming history.
Cheers...
I'm blown away over here Mortal Man, I mean really, WOW! I'm a fan of grinding myself, (my Squirtle was a Wartortle before I left viridian forest in pokemon blue) and I love the feeling of absolute power that comes with giving a boss the smackdown treatment. Hearing you had so much fun is just so fulfilling, so thank you for sharing your thoughts.

spoiler

But dang, I didn't expect so many people to be able to go toe to toe with Athena with just two party members. You must be a grinding machine bro! She was supposed to kick your butt for the sake of the plot, but you must have been hilariously over leveled. Unfortunately I can't think of a way to spin the story for you to win that battle since...well, you know what happens.

Now I know what you're thinking. "Ugh, we're going back to playing heroes again...booooring! I wanna go back to incinerating people with my three story tall fire-breathing shadow dragon." Well don't you worry my friend, the sequel will have plenty of elements to make it worth playing, and I intend to make it even better than this game in some regards. It's mostly going to focus on story and battles, my two favorite rpg elements.

So welcome to rmn buddy, I hope you enjoy the sequel just as much.
That last part about playing as the heroes of a story again is exactly what I was thinking when I saw you're trying to continue this series, which is why I enjoyed this game so much. The feeling when you play as the villain and dissing those heroes, man... how I wish I could have anymore games like that.
But since I'm already attached to the characters of this story, I feel like I'm gonna enjoy that next game of yours.

I might have a tip for that Athena battle part, than if Pandora won against her, maybe she unleashed some hidden power (idk maybe like that battle against the old man where Marcus helps Ragnarok to win), though this is just an idea, so it is fine if you don't find it fit with the story.

Also thanks for the welcome, and do your best for that next game (which I hope will not be the last one).
I'll be waitin' for that, and my body is ready.
Cheers...
Here's part 5 and 6 of my let's play
In which I explore Riddin, and favn over every piece of it ;p

Your writing is really amazing in all the cities, I've recorded a couple of episodes in advance cause I want to play more, and haha, it really is a problem, cause all the people have their little lives and stories, you make me really want to help them all with their little problems... but Pandora just responds with snark and depression, and Ragnarok tells me no wehenver there is something fun to do XD Curses. I want to help all these villagers cause they are so nice XD (they keep inviting me to dinner and stuff and most of them are really nice people...) Like that sick little child and the the child who is sleeping, and the vendor who can't sell his wares cause of bandits.. even if he's an asshole. Or that family which can't get place in the inn... And that town with flower monsters taking care of a garden, it's all so nice. Almost every villager has his little story, and it's all very captivating and makes me care for them.

Of course our party of villains too, cause they all have these deeply emotional tragic stories, I want to make them feel better hah. Also I concluded that Ragnarok sucks at everything, he gets defeated by heroes, he can't cook, he forges shitty weapons and shitty armor that causes as much damage as a crappy soldier sword... ;p And even after 200 years he still hasn't learned that he should explore every location and every sidequest to gather more power, he nags, whines, and blocks me whenever I try to go somewhere or do something which he feels is a waste of time. haha, he needs to be more open minded or he is going to be vanquished again and he will only have himself to blame.

Ahaha, but, without further ado, here's the videos in case you're not following me on my channel.

hey, it's me again, the flgkshjnlhlrnhkbfaglk girl xD i introduced my friend to this game and she finished it in three days, she kept playing it till 4 am, and she loved it, and i think she will be hooked on rpg maker games from now :D (i am playing it a bit more slowly, so i am not done yet. but the more i play it, the more i love it ;____; it is SO AMAZING !!!! when i complete it, i will probably write a 1000+ word essay about how much i love it xD) also, that friend said she saw fairy tail in soundtrack credits, and i love that anime so much, and i know lots of soundtracks from it, but i didn't recognise any of them in game. may i ask which one it is :O
OwMeEye- Thanks man! Your let's play has been so thorough it's allowed me to catch spelling errors I didn't notice before, so you've already been a huge help. Unfortunately, helping kindly townsfolk is a job for a hero, and your party is kind of...you know, evil. (Or at the very least, severely misguided.)

And yeah, Ragnarok is like that one nanny who keeps you from eating anything with sugar in it and spoonfeeds you castor oil instead. I've been following your channel like a chick following a momma duck, loving every moment of your videos.

gothicmiriel- Grettings flgkshjnlhlrnhkbfaglk gal! (I feel like there should be a superheroine with that name somewhere.) I'm glad I was able to help introduce your friend to the wonderful world of rpg maker games. There's only about a billion of them out there, many of them are a lot of fun, and the best part is...most of them are my personal favorite price; $0.00! (tax included)The Fairy Tail music can be a little subtle, so here's a list of what I used.

"Celestial Spirit World Into Chaos"

"Dark Future"

"Tartaros"

"Fierce Fight of the Force of Mortality"

That show has some jammin' music. The sound clips I used for the demon lord came from the same voice actor who played Zeref in the english dubbed version of Fairy Tail, as well as Tales of Xillia 2's Chronos.I hope you continue enjoying the game, and feel free to ask any more questions you might have.
yesss fairy tail has the best soundtracks ever :3 and you chose some nice ones ^__^ i always watched sub, so i don't know dub voices, though :( but it is a very cool detail you added :D and yes, i am absolutely definitely sure i will enjoy the game till the end ^.^ and probably have more comments too xD

The game is very bug free for the most part, which is impressive given the size. I do come upon some rare bug sometimes, but nothing big. I have a few episodes recorded in advance currently, will continue to upload one per day. Hope you continue to have fun watching it like I'm having fun playing it ^_^
Ragnarok is super nagging, one would think he'd learn some patience after 200 hundred years of entrapment XD
