Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Yo Ivellios! Great to hear you're looking forward to what's to come, but as long as you're subscribed, you should get a notification when I post a blog signalling the ultimate edition's release. Sorry for the wait, I have a lot of things that need doing and I want to be thorough in making sure the next release is error-free.

This might just be me biting off more than I can chew (as usual), but I am trying to outdo myself for the sequel. There are a lot of things I have planned and I'm excited to share them with everyone. Hang tight for now, I assure you your patience will pay off in the end.
After several months of my PC being broken, I could finally continue playing, and WOW! I loved each of these characters, and I was having a blast throughout the entire fourteen and a half hours of gameplay. The final three main bosses
Serene, Athena and Aegis
were just bombastic because of the gimmick of those fights. I mean, how much effort was it to code the game
to get the party up to six members just for those fights?

The ending was a bit disappointing when compared to the rest,
in no small part due to the heavy hints that Pandora's resolve began to break, the lack of conclusion to that, and the fact that we couldn't fight the damn coward of a king. Bringing the captain from the very start of the game back as fifth to last boss was pure gold, though. "Do I know you?" - glorious.
Ha! Congrats on making it all the way to the end Abraxas. Not gonna lie, eventing the game was a massive pain in the butt. Sometimes I wondered if I was secretly conspiring against myself to make it as difficult to code as possible. Still, the end result was worth it.

That part actually wasn't that hard to pull off, I just used a script that let me tinker with the party size.

In regards to the ending...

It was left unresolved in order to set up the sequel, where all of the loose ends will be tied up in a neat little bundle. As for the king...well, I can't elaborate on him without diving into spoiler territory.

Thanks for playing bud!
Glad you liked it! I don't have a release date in mind since I'm horrible at meeting deadlines, but it'll be out next year at least.
Next year? That's like, a whole year from now maybe. This is not murda. You will have your game done tomorrow, or else.
PokaTea: You're very welcome! In the meantime, please feel free to explore the wonderous world of rmn and its many glories.

Lianderson: Silence! Neither you nor your admittedly impressive beard frighten me.
Oh damn, double posted. That's a first.

My beard must've hit enter immediately after my hand did. That, or it secretly has its own computer.
Loving the game, but I would like to know if there is any list of all the sidequests implemented in the game. You know, I would hate to miss any content during my run...
Yo Phawk, I don't think I've seen you around, so welcome! Always a joy to hear someone's having fun. There's no list in the game, but feel free to have a look at this one.

Reinhart and the Necromancers

Queen Hornet in Palnea Woods/Reddin

The Krakken in Gullivin

Grelda's Kidnapping

Azrielle vs the Kyubirin

Noire's Gift

The Baker's Fiance

If you need info on how to start any of these quest, feel free to shoot me a message.
Next year? That's far earlier than I expected.
This was my first completed game, and I was learning a lot about rpg maker as I went along. Now that I'm more experienced, I know some shortcuts to get things done more quickly. Plus, a lot of the groundwork for the sequel already exists in Umbral Soul, it's a base I can build off of. Of course there will still be a boatload of new locations, and many of the locations in this game will have undergone visual changes.

The story is pretty much done, so all that's left is the execution. It's probably just a case of me being over-ambitious, but there's a lot I want to do with the sequel that will hopefully make it better than Umbral Soul in some regards.
So you don't plan to add new content (quests, etc.) tu Umbral Soul?
I certainly do my friend. I'm actually going to be releasing an "Ultimate Edition" that includes more sidequests, scenarios and an entirely new campaign where you play as a different party. It'll add a lot more detail to what was going on behind the scenes as Pandora was building up her forces. People have been telling me a secret superboss would be nice, so I'm adding one of those as well. There's also a special project I've been working on as well. All in all, lots of good stuff coming in the future.
Any idea when Ultimate Edition will come out? I'm trying not to replay it until the ultimate edition comes out.
Weeeell, that I can't really say. What I CAN say is that everything should be done by the end of next year. The ultimate edition will be out long before that though, most likely early next year. I just want to cover my bases in case life smacks me in the face with something unexpected, as it often does. Don't worry though, we aren't talking Kingdom Hearts 3 wait times here.
author=1for3
So Half Life 3 wait times?

I bet it's more like Doors of stone wait time, if you know the kingkiller series (a bookstory) you would know what I mean... or golden sun 4 (will it ever come?) waittimes....
