BEN_RANDOM'S PROFILE

I'm Ben_Random. I've been around since 2008 but I didn't really get active here since Super RMN Bros. 2. That, an unfinished game, and a couple of contests sums up what I've done with game making on this site. I find that my main purpose here is writing. I have a few tutorials out there, as well as some reviews on Mario fan games such as RMN Bros. or Mario V.S. the Moon Base.

Now with the internet the way it is these days, you can probably use just this information to stalk me.

Key mapping headache

If you start your game and push F1 go to the keyboard input or whatever its called and you can see what key means what.

Now that i think of it, why is a little yellow circle being chased by ghosts anyway? And what are the little dot things? The world may never know...
Those dots are antidepressants to keep Pac Man from committing suicide because of the constant drone of awak awak awak awak sounds effects


I think we will have to come up with another explanation, because Ralph is not depressed.

Key mapping headache

In my game the player presses hot-keys to use items.
I do this with conditional branches.
I know that "A" in a conditional branch does not actually mean "A" on the keyboard.
I know that "A" has been key-mapped to another key.
I would like to know how to change the key mapping.
Obviously, the player will have to know how to key-map as well, so I would like to be able to give them a good explanation.

If credit is wanted, I have no problem giving it.

How do you (and I) change game-page font?

It's simple.

I want to change the font of my gamepage.

Not at all. Talking Time Bros was leagues better than the first RMN Bros.

Then again, hopefully RMN Bros. 2 will be as well.

Interesting secondary NPCs

Any character can be interesting. Even a non player character. Try to think of a backstory to the NPC. What happened in his/her day. Go in to detail. Then, the NPC might say something about their lives to you. Just saying a part of there lives will make the player wonder.

Also, some fun NPC interactions to work with are:

-Random anger when the player approaches them.
-Surprised when the character see's the NPC
-Having the NPC mistake the character for someone else, or vise versa.
