What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Playing Colosseum: Road to Freedom for the first time in six years. Been studying Roman history lately and Colosseum is the best game (maybe the only?) about Rome that isn't strategy. That and Bellum Imperii for M&B.

The voice overs are bad (of the "why bother even having voice actors" variety) and one of the characters looks a lot like Dolph Ziggler for some reason. The combat is wonderful, but unfortunately, the biggest challenge is dealing with the camera. It tends to get stuck on walls and hazards.

Five days in: I'm starting to remember why I traded this game in six years ago.

Greenlands

Open world? I'm interested.

Publishing Old Games?

@JosephSeraph
Reminds me of this writer on YouTube named Travis McBee. He posted all these writing advice videos about how much hard work and hours you have to put in to be a successful writer, and then last September posted a video called "I Quit" about how he was totally burnt out and almost quit. It's worth a watch.

But getting back to publishing older RPG Maker stuff, Yume Nikki got an official (as in, supervised by the original creator, according to the steam page) 3D...sequel, maybe? Called Yume Nikki-Dream Diary. Also, in Kikiyama's case, she (or he?) is rather reclusive. That may be a japanese thing, as I have heard that a lot of manga artists are the same way. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Publishing Old Games?

If you want to sell whatever you make, go for it. If you make a good game, especially a good RPG, I'll even buy it. I like supporting good honest indie devs. But this door swings both ways - hobbyists shouldn't be badgered about marketing and making a profit if they just want to make games for the sake of it.

And, to be fair, I haven't seen that from anybody on here and for that I'm grateful - it mostly seems to be a "writer" thing.

Weird Dreams are made of these

No sleep tonight, I suppose.

@GreatRedSpirit

Gahhh I knew that >< Poor word choice. Still, the unique-ness of the rest of the game makes up for it. I think I may actually like it more than Ultima 7.

Started over my solo Warband game as an archer. I'm debating between the warbow, for its power, or a shorter bow for its speed. Also, for some reason forest bandits are better shots than Vaegir archers. And also the number of Sea Raider groups around Rivacheg is ridiculous. There are easily more Sea Raiders on the map at any given time than any other bandit party.

Update 2/8/2019 - I have angrily deleted the Diplomacy mod for M&B after getting tired of it's BS. Back in 2010-2011 it was THE mod for enhancing the base game without being a total overhaul, now it's...nothing. I actually don't know what purpose it serves, anymore. Tried the 1050 AD Mercenary Uprising Mod, which is really cool. I think I'll stick to that, Last Days of the Third Age, and Viking Conquest.

Game Magazines

(People knew about Earthbound. but they just didn't want to play it. It was a hard sell, compared to stuff like DOOM, Street Fighter, Super Metroid or Donkey Kong Country -- Earthbound was 100 dollars, but so was Phantasy Star IV, but people brought up Phantasy Star IV more, when talking about Chrono Trigger, because both games had combination techs and great animation at the time and it was already similar to what was already out on the market -- Earthbound was too different, it wasn't the right time to parody the genre yet.)

TopHatGamingMan or whatever his name is on youtube claimed that every retro game store he visited on a trip to the US had a copy of Earthbound for sale. I also recall hearing that there were a bunch that were never sold and may be sitting in a warehouse somewhere, but I kinda doubt it.

On the PC side of things, here's a site that's got scans of old Computer Gaming World mags. https://www.cgwmuseum.org/
I can remember owning a couple of these from...1995 or 1996, I believe. We had a computer that could actually run the then-modern stuff, an upgrade from an old commodore. I could never convince my parents to buy me the full versions of games (I think this is when you had to get them via mail order, maybe a little past that?) But our city used to have a big CompUSA, and my dad bought them for me as if to say "Check out all this cool stuff you can't have". And I remember the awesome demo discs they had...at least they were awesome for a 6 year old.
That, to me, was PC gaming. Not like now when we get terminally early access survival sandboxes, multiplayer asshole simulators, and console games BUT WITH BETTER GRAPHICS LOL CONSOLE PEASANTS. You know, Doom, Duke Nukem, The Lucasarts adventure games, Daggerfall...

EDIT: Here's one that I used to have! http://www.cgwmuseum.org/galleries/issues/cgw_141.pdf These ads are amazing. I remember playing Total Mayhem and Gearheads, two obscure games I wish were on GOG. Also check out the ads for "VR" headsets.

But anyway I used to have a hoard of Nintendo Power magazines from the heyday of the N64 when I got a discount subscription through one of those fund raiser thingys. The last one I remember getting had the Game Boy Advance on the cover. I wish I still had them - this was around 1998-2000 when they ran little mini pokemon comics in them.

The Best Battle Animations You've Seen?

THANKS to you I was able to discover this game (and also the prequel). Nice animations, and also great game.

My favourites instead were those of Psycho Platoon, I love the art style and the animations and the effects of the moves are really professional (combat start at 17:21). Impressive work considering all the other games are almost cool as this.
Very very cool find TheRpgMakerAddict♥♥♥!!!

Holy shit, I lost it, at the umberella shotgun part at 18:14:

Thank you for sharing this dude! I really gotta finish that archive forum.
One of the things I wanted to do, once I had a place to work again,
and I got the archive stuff down was just to start sharing and discover new games and rpgmakers communities.

Thank you again for this TheRpgMakerAddict, it just confirms my beliefs that there's some really wicked cool rpgmaker games
out there that we haven't seen XD. Another cool thing too is that, usually japanese rpgmaker games aren't as resource heavy, so they're usually very easy to get working on stuff like easyrpg on the wii etc.

But yeah, we should exchange info at some point. Thank you for finding this and sharing it!

Those are the ones that make you go "THAT'S an RPG Maker game?"

Here's a question. Anybody know of any games that take advantage of front-view battle systems to give the appearance of a first person perspective?

2019 gaming diary

I've been trying to solo Mount & Blade: Warband. Also I've started drinking heavily. I don't see any correlation between these two things. I've come to the realization that as much as I like Mount & Blade for it's total lack of story and complete freedom, I really hate having to drag around an army.

Also, I tried to get into Ultima 4 again, but I was put off by the random character class system. I don't wanna play a fighter, dammit, I like rangers!

When I saw this, I thought surely it was a horror game.
