Well, that was unexpected.

Thanks.

I wrote this a few years ago. Some would call it poetry. It's about love, so him won't like it.

I'd like to meet a girl
that'll swear the mailman is gay
that'll sit in silence for hours
and then rant about the joy of ice cream
only to get up and feel the need to jog
around the house while singing
songs off key knowing that it'd be
most annoying to anyone who is a fan
of music and not a fan of defective expression
she'll be too scared to go near a spider
and not laugh when my jokes suck
and not tell any lies
even though the truth could never be found
and the lies would make our lives simpler
she would hate sociology, and be vocal as to why
she- like seymour- would have a sneaking paranoid notion
that everyone in the entire world
is living just to make her happy
but she would definetly agree
on the merits of Pinkerton
and maybe even think it is better than the Blue Album
however that is no prerequisite
as we can't ask for the moon and the stars you know
I'd like to meet a girl who would get bored half way
through this rant, and tell me how she had to hold in a fart
she would have these corny ideals
that she never could live up to
but never stopped to try and live up to them
and would find my ideals cornier than hers
and if they ever were not she'd give
a piece of her mind
as to how the world has gone dead and
lost their wills and ways and funs
and grown up to be passive fools
but she would know that we're passive fools
and would not hide the fact
she would like to like children
however be awkward around them
think that they are the future
have no idea what she means by that
or what anybody ever means by that
as they get brainwashed to the same shit we have
then she'd shut up
she might like to wear makeup and fancy clothing
it doesn't really matter
although pink eyeshadow is always fun
as is "mysterious female fashion sense"
so we'll enjoy that and enjoy that her pillow's would smell nice
she'd call me on all my stupid sexist shit
that I'm sure I do
and I'd in turn call her on all her stupid sexist shit
that I wish she'd do
as I don't want to be the only moron in this relationship
she would be smarter than I ever dreamed possible
about things I didn't know existed
and she wouldn't always roll her eyes when I talked about Marx
or how emo isn't just another trend
and she'd enjoy frisbee
making out in the rain
jumping in cold lakes
dancing in her room naked singing
songs from bands that I hate
and when she's grown tired of my antics
she would say: "I've grown tired of your antics"
and I would tell her that I wish she didn't
she would love to pretend that she did not
but would never allow herself to do such things
and would say goodbye, but before she left
she'd just leave me with the thought that yes
that mailman must've been gay
and if not then he may be a future gay
or a gay in training
and then she would laugh and I would not
but I would be happy
knowing that I was happy with her
and that she was happy with me

Top Ten Topic: Bands, Music Groups, Artists

10 .Ghost Mice- It's cheesy, but I love it. Freedom. Being poor, being different, disliking how the world works, refusing to take park in bullshit, but... being free. Good folk/punk. I'm especially liking the Andrew Jackson Jihad split nowadays.

9. The Broadways- Not the Lawrence Arms, the previous band, the Broadways. Broken Star has lyrics that are amazing in their imperfections. Early 20 fuckers learning about the bullshit in the world, about how they are the problem and their drinking sucks and how the city they live in sucks. Reading the amazing books for the first time. Frustrated, confused, angry, and hopefully. Writing songs that are honest.

8. Jawbreaker/Jets to Brazil- Blake Schwarzenbach's bands are so poetically beautiful, and so depressing. Jawbreaker made four punk albums, all sounding very very different, with their final album- the destructive major label debut- Dear You possibly their best. Jets to Brazil was one of the late 90's bands that sometimes like mislabelled emo (along with Braid and the like), and all the albums have beautiful beautiful lyrics.

7. Screeching Weasel- The kings of pop/punk. BoogadaX3 was simple, snotty and loud. My Brain Hurts had great lyrics that weren't just about being stupid and having some fun. The later releases weren't as good, but the Lookout releases were amazing.

6. Alkaline Trio- The Asian Man releases are easy to relate to with tales of love, depression and alcoholism. The Vagrant releases have cheesier and cheesier lyrics (about devils and such, alas), and the music gets more poppy, but I can't help but love it all. The split with Hot Water Music on Jade Tree was amazing. The Hell Yes EP aswell. Both their singles/B-sides albums are some of their best. Amazing.

5. Against Me!- They're really only here because Reinventing Axl Rose is the defining punk album of this decade. The others are good (including all the singles), but Reinventing Axl Rose changed perspectives, gave people hope and inspired people against this shithole world.

4. Bomb the Music Industry- Free albums. 3 albums with only one guy. Ska/punk? With synthesizers? Why does it sound like it'd be bad and not that special when it sounds better and more refreshing than all things in this decade's punk scene.

3. Fugazi- Given. 13 Songs was straight forward and raw with emotion. It broke the label of punk into meaninglessness and reminded us that it was about not falling into ruts and traditions and to constantly challenge. It wasn't about playing the same music played 20 years ago. All bands connected like the Evens, Embrace, Rites of Spring etc. are also amazing.

2. The Weakerthans- John K left Propagandhi to form this band. He is Canada's best poet. His solo material is great, and the albums he makes with the Weakerthans are all masterpieces. The last on Reunion Tour was very experimental in sound, and each song was done through a unique perspective, and it didn't come off like a writing exercise. Night Windows I listened to on repeat many many times.

1. Propagandhi- The greatest political punk band. Less Talk, More Rock was a foundation for all ideas. Today's Empires and Potemkin both expanded in different contexts, and musically were both amazing in different ways. Purina Hall of Fame makes one shiver.

Honourable mentions: Hot Water Music, The Queers, Eastern Youth, Dresden Dolls, Get Up Kids.

Resignation

I thought you resigned already?

Top Ten Topic: Songs of the moment

1) Songs off the new Loved Ones CD.
2) Songs off Brand New's Deja Entendu
3) Songs off Refused's Shape of Punk to Come
4) Songs off of Dresden Dolls's s/t

A few songs from each CD makes about 10.

Dream Jobs?

We were all thinking it, but WIP was the one brave enough to say it.

I also want to be an author though. I always did.

Black Focused Schools

You honestly don't think they'd overcompensate in some ill-conceived effort to "relate to the students"?

So your argument boils down to flat out speculation?

Favourite Games of all time?

Dragon Quest 5
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy Tactics
Wild Arms
Lunar: EBC

No explanations needed. It's neat and tidy.

Black Focused Schools

Wow, I went into reading him's and holbert's posts ready disagree and they both said some good stuff.

Him, why do you first boldly say it's black people's fault, and then go into a lengthy description on how it's the growth of black culture's fault encompassing a dislike of the mainstream?

I'd call what Holbert called white male Christian values middle class values. When people of the middle class wonder why others aren't viewing the world the way they do, they seem to get angry. Native Americans in Canada get free education, and lots don't take it and the middle class compares. It's not fathomable that some native Americans don't want to have the middle class definition of success and would want to be on their land with their family. Policies given to the poor and different cultures are not to help them, but to assimilate them to having middle class values.

If the whole system would change to create a history that everyone can be proud and ashamed of together and value systems could be questioned, then I think it would work a lot better. However, this probably wouldn't happen because people like to identify problems so long as they don't have to change the way they do anything. Changing is for others to do. Going to university isn't the only answer, and working to support your family as opposed to leaving home for university is ok, nor is the way you speak or words you choose to use make you stupid.

I'm not sure about Toronto, but in Vancouver the race issue isn't really as tense as it is in America. Traditionally, Canadians (or atleast British Columbians) are taught that America is a melting pot and Canada is a mosaic.

Also, as a resident of Japan, I bet the Japanese government could offer me many opportunities I'd definitely turn down that would make Japanese people scoff.
