Nobuo Uematsu wants to work on a new 2D RPG (with the FFVI team)

Apparently Nobuo Uematsu wants to work on a new 2D RPG with the team of Final Fantasy VI.

This might or might not happen (he seems serious enough to even pitch it to Square-Enix though), but what are your thoughts on this. Even though it would be a 2D RPG similar to Final Fantasy VI, how different do you think it would be considering it would be made 20 years later?

Would you want the team to make a sequel to the original game, or a new game entirely but with a similar vibe?

Looking for a long but easy game

I'm going to be on a ship for a few weeks soon and I won't have much to do during my free time (no internet). I'm looking for a long RPG that's kind of easy. Just something I can play a little every day when I'm not working.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Advertisement in Games

One way to gain revenue from a game is to add advertisement to it. It's done mostly on flash games and mobile games. It's not easily possible to do this for RPG Maker Games, but I was wondering what your opinions on ads in games is.

Have you ever put ads in a game? If yes, then what kind of ads was it and do you think it was a good idea to do so? If no, then if you could put ads in your game to generate revenue, would you do it?

I'm also wondering what are your opinions on ads as players. Does your opinion of a game differ if it has ads in it? What kind of ads do you find acceptable and what kind do you find unacceptable?

Unity3D Mobile licenses are free until April 8th

I just saw this today and thought it might interest others here. Until April 8th, you can get the mobile licenses of the Unity3D engine for free. They cost 400$ each normally for the iOS and android licenses.

This is great for anyone who might have an interest in developing mobile games (With Unity3D).

Splitting one large game into multiple smaller games

I've been thinking of doing this with one of my projects. Instead of making one large game, I would split it into smaller chapters and release each chapter as it's own game. Kind of like the Final Fantasy IV sequel when it first came out.

So, I was wondering what your thoughts on this was, and how would you find a concept like this could be properly developed?

One of the things to note is that I'm not planning to have any data transfer from one chapter to another, so each chapter would really be it's own game. Some of the ideas I have right now are to not have any leveling at all and to simply scale the characters and enemies as chapters advance. That way the player won't feel cheated that s/he leveled for nothing.

What's the best place to find freelance artists and musicians?

I'm currently planning an RPG project which I intend to start working on towards the end of the year or next year. However, for this project I would like to hire a pixel artist and a musician to work on those respective parts of the game. I'm not currently looking to hire someone, but once the game has been properly planned and the engine is finished being programmed, then I will be hiring.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of good places (like websites) where I can find pixel artists and musicians that do freelance work. Or maybe some of you are willing to do some pixel or music work freelance sometime in the future? I searched a bit and found a few websites, but maybe some of you know some better places.

I was just thinking it could be useful to have a list of websites and maybe a list of portfolios of artists. Not just for me, but for others who might be interested in hiring an artist.

And if there's already a place where this information can be found, sorry in advance and thanks in advance for redirecting me!

Mailbox (1) bug

Hey there's a small bug I seem to have. In the top menu the mailbox displays Mailbox (1) and flashes as if I have one unread mail. However, I don't have any unread mail! It's been like this for a few weeks now and never goes away.
