I was showing a friend this site when this showed up in the "Random Screenshot" portion of the front page. I had a lot of explaining to do.

The fact that Ace comes packaged with like a mandatory 200 MB RTP is pretty much an app killer. Even with next to a terrabyte (872 GB to be exact) of free local space at my disposal, I don't weigh myself down with big things and I sure as hell don't make any exceptions for my projects.

Crafting in Games

The only crafting i found enjoyable was minecraft's.

The only crafting I liked was Warcraft, because grieving noobs makes for good padding.

As long as you make the items worth making (WoW's bags in Tailoring and bandages in First Aid) and the resources are plentiful (debatable), I'm sure someone will enjoy it. Perhaps something like Dark Cloud 2 where everything is craftable would be a good example. The game teaches you from the very beginning that you're an inventor and you take tidbits found here and there and use ideas you find by taking pictures to create things, which is a lot more engaging storywise than "I've heard crafting systems are cooler than fishing and blue magic so I decided to throw one in."

I hated dealing with Golden Saucer so much I didn't even know they had a roller coaster shoot-em-up minigame. They didn't even have an achievement for playing there on Steam. Maybe it's time for me to go back?

Commercial games and creativity

"Beep boop, lots of people are buying this, clearly if I just copy it, lots of people will also buy this, because it's not about what people like to play, it's about hitting all the items on a checklist. I know a lot about how humans work, beep boop!")

Introducing microtransactions/pay-to-win on a game that allowed its players to earn everything if they simply worked hard enough and paid the base subscription fee? What could possibly go wrong? Oh, it was all the investor's fault? Well at least the company itself is still smart enough to run their game.

What? People weren't happy with one of the biggest changes the company itself implemented in the game? Maybe they just need to get over themselves? Or maybe they should just give up and undo all the work they've put in over the past decade...

As of the time of this post, there are currently 101,422 players online in Runescape 3 and 61,135 players online in Old School Runescape. These numbers account for the army of bots/gold farmers that plague each game, meaning the popularity of both games are debatable.

How about you make the game first then sell it? Makes more sense to me.

Speaking of stomach betrayal, I think the family of one of my church buddies is violently ill as the father couldn't make it to a men's bible study on Tuesday and his daughter couldn't make it to the youth group Wednesday. Scary stuff.

But since we're all seemingly falling apart, let's look on the bright side; let's all enjoy life; let's all DO THE FLOP!
