I'm moving into a new house, and kind of left things too late with the broadband and won't have internet until the 27th. I know I'm not exactly a key player here, but if anyone needed to contact me for whatever reason, I won't be around for a bit.

Replacing Screenshots

So, I tried to replace some screenshots, and I guess they were accepted, but nothing's actually changed... I know the site is undergoing some difficulties at the moment, would it be due to this? Should I just try again in a couple of days/weeks/months?

Also I did see the warning about deleting downloads where it was recommended not to modify your page at all... I saw other people uploading screenshots though, but just realised that this wasn't necesarily modifying and yeah that was kind of stupid.

RM2K3 - Flipping battle animations for skills?

So, RM2K3 seems to flip everything except battle animations, with the back-attack (or, technically, I'm having trouble with the left half of a surround attack) function... I seem to remember that there was a way to do this, but I must have a mental block going on. Or be talking bollocks. But I'm hoping it's the former. Can someone help me out?

Trying to track down these bow sprites (from a spritesheet, I'm pretty sure)

Posted this on GW a couple of months ago, unfortunately was unsuccessful. Thought I'd just give it a try here because I really want this spritesheet. :'(

I'm trying to track down a sprite sheet with lots of bows on it. The ones you see slapped onto expertly edited onto sprites here are from the sheet, and they're all pretty much the same kind of size and style as these, IIRC.

I really like the style, and would like to try and find it again, would anyone have seen this sprite sheet around, or hopefully have a copy? I can't find it anywhere, I didn't really give myself the credit to search past the first few pages of google images 'bow sprites', so I'm kinda stumped now.

Thanks!

Edit: Hey whoa now! Someone on GW suggested they were from fire emblem and i was pretty sure they weren't because I was thinking of the in-battlem sprites, but these GC menu ones are pretty similar. http://www.feplanet.net/sprites-archive-items/9 If nobody can help me (which tbh I don't exactly have high hopes for as I searched for this for like an hour today! :-\) I'll probably just find some way of turning these 45 degrees.

Gamejolt ad revenue sharing?

Firstly, sorry if people have already talked about this, I haven't seen a topic like that.

I saw an advertisement on GW for a site called Gamejolt (http://gamejolt.com/developers/ad-sharing/), that is working on giving amateur developers a cut of the ad revenue that any of their games generate. Dreaming of NotSMW generating $0.12 a month and being THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING, I've signed up, but haven't quite uploaded my game yet (they don't seem to accept demos. Well, demo uploads, anyway. I think 'In production' gamepages are fine).

I'm just a naturally a little cautious. At the moment everything seems fine. It's not like you're selling the ripped graphics or anything, and a mirror's a mirror, I guess... it's just, the moment money comes into the equation, something seems a little off. I just wanted to know some of your opinions on it, I suppose. Any massive reason I'm missing why this is a bad idea or should I not be looking a gift horse in the mouth? Discuss.

[RM2K3] 'Event script referenced a monster that does not exist'

... or something to that effect, anyway. Occasionally, when I use an 'attack-all' spell on a single enemy, I get that message, and it crashes the game. Has anyone experienced this before? It's... really quite annoying. It's happened with a couple of different moves, as well.

Help identifying this boss theme midi? (Probably from a classic RPG)

Hey, so, a few of you have probably heard this boss music before. The only games I can remember it from are Phylomortis 2 and Kindred Saga. I love it so much!

But I've now got an MP3 battle theme, and can hardly go back to a midi for a boss battle. It's supposed to me more epic! That, and I've always wondered what it's from. Could anyone please tell me? I'm hoping that it is actually from a game, and not an original, midi-only composition, or anything.

I have one piece of information; I imported it into itunes once (I think), and found out its name was 'Bloody Destiny!!'. So, when I found out the Persona remake had a track called 'Bloody Destiny' it got my hopes up, but... no. It was a different song. Tsk.

So yeah, please help me, someone! It will make my day if I can find out where it's from.

Bonus points, if you can help me identify this one, as well!

Blog post?

Hey. I just tried to make a blog post. I wrote everything, then clicked 'continue' and then... the box disappeared. This is a newbie question, I know, but did it submit? I can't see any evidence that it did, but it might be awaiting approval, or something. Should I try again, or just wait? Thanks.

Bad points of one big 'inside' map for towns

So, looking over my game, I realise that in most towns, the majority of interiors have been on one or two, like 100x100 inside maps. But it's occured to me that ingame, it is in fact kind of annoying to enter a small house and only see half of it - and have this 15x15 house scroll as you're walking around it... I'd much rather see the entire small house on the screen. At first I thought that doing it all on one big map would probably save on filesize, but thinking about it, it really shouldn't be that much and I'm putting a couple of MP3s in anyway, so.

I guess what I'm asking before I redo all of the houses is if anybody minds this big-mappery? I'm sure I've seen this done in other games, does it annoy anyone else as much as it's starting to annoy me?

Universal Language - Chapter 1

Universal Language
Chapter 1 (Demo)

Hi, I'm Eike. This is Universal Language, a little game I've been working on with RPG Maker 2000 from September 2007, transplanted onto RPG Maker 2003 some time after that. Loving that sexy side-on battle system. The entire Chapter 1 is now complete, and is to be published as a demo. I have been working it on a while, and this demo is a good few hours long.

Synopsis
In the years 303-304, the continent of Mellynd was torn apart by what is now known as the Great War â€" the country of Leyland fighting against the invading Orville, and their ally, Edgos. Eventually, Leyland absorbed a small nation, Kilnan, and, after the succession of a new leader, Edgos defected, allowing Orville to be defeated by Leyland and its new allies.

Now, eight years later, in the Leylandian industrial town of Fenheim, bright eighteen-year-old Amos Hardie attends the prestigious University of Fenheim. As one of the only grammar school boys there, he is finding it a less than enjoyable experience, and his only friends at the university are the other Fenheim resident, Eugene, and shy posh lad Lester. Having moved in with Amos and Eugene in town, Lester must now meet Amos' blue-collar friends, including saturnine Lawrence, tomboyish Isabel, self-assured Thomas, and childhood-friend-turned-moronic-bitch Elvira. However, a bloody revolution in Edgos will change the lives of Amos and friends beyond recognition, and spell ill-fortune for all three nations.

Meanwhile, Edgosian secret policeman Mark, recovering from a severe bout of insanity, tries his best to flee the country under its revolutionary regime, and young Leylandian lordling Cyril Avenbury takes a visit that doesn't quite go as planned to one of his father's political allies in the countryside.

Features
  • Universal Language takes place in a historical hodgepodge vaguely tongue-in-cheek world inspired very much by 19th Century England (through most of chapter 1 - you do travel to the bordering countries more later), with elements of both classic fantasy RPGs and modern values woven in.
A traditional RPG using RM2K3's DBS.
The idea of magic-like abilities only features minimally, in the ‘steamglove' skills in battles, and other than that, the story is largely reliant on human conflict, and not ancient magical demons and the like.
Inspired more by classic RM2K games, such as Legion Saga and Three The Hard Way, than more recent RPG Maker games â€" evident in the lack of graphical consistency in the screenshots. However, outside of this intentional nostalgic ‘scrapbook' effect, I strive for professionalism, in a hopefully endearing game world that will remind you of the RM2K games of old. … the good ones, hopefully.
Only slightly evident in the demo, the game will follow the ‘Suikoden' formula of recruitable characters, as well as an occasional duel system, with one appearance in Chapter 1.
A feature of RM2K3 not many games seem to employ â€" rearrange your party as you choose, and control any member of your party whilst exploring.
This game was created by a borderline obsessive! If you're into speaking to bookcases and objects, meticulous spelling and grammar, and plot consistency, then you're in luck!

Demo - Chapter 1
The game will not be in episodic format, but merely divided into chapters. Though I can accept that this game maybe isn't the best out there, I certainly have warm feelings towards it, and will be working in the background to progress further, especially as the plot is picking up. Although the first chapter is fairly linear, a lot more side quests and optional locales will open up from Chapter 2 onwards, worry not!

I am also working on a short prequel to the game, a remake of a game that I made years ago, which stars Orson E. Rockefeller, a name that you'll recognise if you read around the university library, and is set in the Edgosian crisis of the year 303. Many of the characters from the game's prologue, including Mark van Thorn and Lord Oskar Ingram, feature in this game. Given the short, and less serious, nature of the project, I was considering making it with MSPaint primitive custom graphics. I'm looking forward to it.

The RTP and any fonts you may need are included in the Chapter 1 download. Please read the 'readme' file before playing.
