Final Fantasy IV - VX

author=darkdesigngames
You are fully entitled to your opinion, and I do agree with what you are saying somewhat. Basically I've played this game to death and own multiple copies of it, Recently my skills with RPG Maker have improved dramatically and I just want to see how far I can go and how well I can make a project as ambitious as this one. If I manage to pull it off, I'll be pleased. It also gives me a chance to put things into the game that I would have like to have seen in the originals, so I'll be putting my own spin on it per se.

Really think of this as practice. Once I'm sure that my skills have got to the standard I want them to be, I'll be creating an RPG based on one of my own stories :)

I'll interpret this as more of a personal and technical project and just leave it at that then rather than drag this discussion on any further.

I don't see the big deal when someone wants to replicate a classic game (shocking, I know). Let the man make what he wants. Geez.

Is it wrong to ask people to stop for just a moment and think about things, or to encourage them to maybe do something a little better? I'll admit, what I said could be on the subjective side, as it is opinion. I don't think its wrong to discuss it though, especially if it brings a better understanding of the author's intention, in which case, it did (at least as far as I'm concerned).

There is absolutely no reason for this project to exist.

At all.

I'd like to make a similar point, but with a more constructive spin. I really have to ask; what is it that has you wanting, to put it bluntly, ripping off Final Fantasy 4? Sure, I can understand it being a source of inspiration, and it( at least the SNES version) deserves to be regarded as classic. I also have to ask; is this really your work at the end of the day? I wont deny that things are being done in an editor, but how much of this is just a copypasta when you break it down?

Look, I'm probably gonna get lynched hard for this, but it needs to be said; Why rip a good ol classic off, slap VX at the end of the name and call it a day? Why not let the classics inspire you? Even fan fiction would be a better route to go than this. My intent here is not to insult or troll, but to encourage (or at least try) something better. I can understand if you don't want any trouble, so feel free to PM me if you wish to discuss this without the excessive drama llamas.

this has not changed. We do not allow commercial games.

Are you planning on selling this game?

Besides this, I would also like to point out that if this game will indeed be freeware, you may wish to modify your rewards to be less... vague, as its part of the reason why I'm left to wonder if this will even be freeware or not.

Here we go...

And out of the shadows appears...

So, I don't think this thread will get anymore significant responses, but I figured Id respond to those that did respond.

My friends thoughts on old makers VS new ones.

Nostalgia is blinding a lot of people here.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! No.Beating the dead horse way too much is whats blinding people. Well, that and an unjustifiable amount of intolerance.

2k3 has limitations that ace does not

good games can be made with either maker

bad games can be made with either maker

a lot of people who use either engine are terrible game devs

some people who use either engine are great game devs

you can use any resources you want in ace you are not forced to use chibi sprites, they are like that because japan loves dragon quest and the series has always entirely been dedicated to making dragon quest clones, down to 2k/3s damage formulas

my position is that if you're new or want to make a game that is truly your own, go with ace since scripting is really nice and even just using yanfly and i's scripts you can do a lot to customize your game (dear shump, plugging in scripts is not inherently bad; some idiots who think that scripts = features = awesome game does not mean we are all like that, please stop conflating us/circle-jerking)

even i'm fucking sick of this discussion

fake edit: i'm really impressed with how many responses and viewpoints i crammed into here

While you do make some good points craze, this post is still rather ironic, and in a bad way might I add.

An Official *English* Version of 2k3 Approaches!

Alright, I signed this, and before anyone gets the urge to call me a hypocrite, bear in mind that I did this mainly for anyone from my old IRC channel way back in the day. (you guys know who you are).
