Shadow's Reach

I figure that since I'm going to be dropping in and out of this site a lot over the next few months I'd better make myself and my current project better known to the forum-using public. My name is Ben Warren, and this is my game . . .

SHADOW'S REACH

GENRE: Fantasy
MAKER: RPG Maker 2000
STATUS: Demo Version 1.0
PAGE: http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/239/

ABOUT: Shadow's Reach is an RPG in the traditional sense, I've done relatively little to modify the basic workings of RPG Maker 2000, but have been able to push those systems into new and interesting dimensions. At heart it's a game about character, mixing a strong plot-driven story and collection of interesting characters with a multitude of mini-games, subquests and missions that should help to waylay the linier qualities of the main adventure. Effort has been made to turn the world into a rich and interesting world-setting with sub-stories and a history to explore. Whilst the demo only contains a few books that can be brought and read in the Libraries, the full version will contain almost a hundred tomes that contain everything from Enemy stats to short stories and poetry. The characters themselves each have scripted personalities that vary from the comical to the heart-felt.

DEMO: The demo is uploaded onto Megauploads and will be linked through the page here exclusively. Contained within the demo is the first map area that can be explored in-game, containing multiple side-quests, minigames, and secrets to explore. This portion represents essentially the opening of the game and first few set pieces before embarking onto a bigger adventure. To download visit the game page.

SCREENSHOTS: I'm having some trouble uploading screenshots to this site at the moment so please find a small selection here: http://www.sheezyart.com/view/1483601/

--------------------

Any questions or comment on content at any point in production are most welcome. With any luck the demo version 1.0 will be available for download within the next two hours.

For the sake of Art

A link to one of my online galleries, this is where I upload all of my little doodles, etc. Professional quality work and designs are not uploaded here so think of it as a bit of fun.

Musical RPG?

Nippon Ichi's first game was called 'Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure' and pulled off something similar, though it's very rare now (I've never met anyone else who has played it) check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhapsody:_A_Musical_Adventure

Your idea sounds great - if it becomes a community project then I'd be glad to help out with it. I'm a fan of bending the traditional rpg conventions where possible :) I'm also a very prolific writer / professional designer (published) so helping with a script (script - not scripting, lol) would be great fun for me.

Is anybody else having trouble uploading screenshots?

RPGS... you've beaten

Dude you MUST play ff6!

RPG Maker VX. RMVX is to RMXP what RM2k3 is to RM2k; RMVX release date announced

Hmmm - I must admit that I stopped at 2000 (bless it!) but may be intersted if this new version were to be the real improvement we all hope it is - after all XP has a LOT of problems.

Final Fantasy XII

I found the really big letdown was the story - vacant, uninteresting and in some cases purely pointless. Why was our hero there? What was his motivation? There was little character progression and the most interesting character (a fusion of james bond and captain jack sparrow) was given the smallest level of all. RPGS are all about the story and this one plain sucked. Its the only rpg I've considered dropping and not going back to (and I've played a LOT)

RPGS... you've beaten

OOT - hah! The worldmap in the latest game is a carbon copy of Zelda 4 on the SNES - darkworld included!

Battle City RM2k Gold

Looks very interesting - great to see a fellow user of 2K in this XP orientated world! I salute you!

Arbiter: Prototype

This looks very interesting, I'll look forward to learning more :)
