I'm game for doing this. I just need to know where you guys convene on IRC.

Dragon Fantasy

Is OldSchool making a comeback? It's neat. Maybe I'll try it this week.

Japan Time

I hate levels that move around. It distracts too much from the fighting. I prefer Final Destination because the level gives no advantages to anyone and calls for a more fair fight.

New Article: Your Intro Sucks

My game's intro is about three lines of story background then the game starts. I wanted it to be as simple as possible.

My favorite types of intros are intros like Final Fantasy VII. Where you start not knowing a lot, and you go right into the action. It kinda helps getting the game going, and later on the details are filled as you go. Sometimes giving details can be bearable as long as it's not TOO much information. Sometimes games just give you TOO much information and you can't settle through it all at once. It's when you get it in chunks is it more digestable.

Long intros suck.

Last Legend [Demo]

I believe it is fixed. Please comment if you get the chance. And maybe even test out the game, eh?

Last Legend [Demo]

Strange, I see the images fine. I'll try reuploading them tomorrow. I'm tired.

This is a project Fighter and I have been working on since Summer of 06. It's an all RTP/classic first rpg game. It was meant to be like the first rpg game you've ever made, just with a little more experience and know how. The game was kept all RTP to have a bright and consistent feel, to make it easy to get progress done, and to have as said before that first game feel.

Story:
A boy named Tyler decides to search for a long sought out family treasure. Along the way he encounters many friends and foes, braving pirates, monsters, ghouls, evil kings, and around 15 + dungeons/towns. The game features around 4-6 hours of gameplay. Some minigames/sidequests and tons of places to see! I estimate around 7-10 towns, 5-8 dungeons, and more! This game really has the simple classic rpg feel and is not trying to change the world. Rather do what Fighter and I believe RPG Maker is for. Make a fun simple game that actually has gameplay in it.

I bet all of you could appreciate a game like this. Give me some feedback if ya know what's good for ya! Enjoy.

Also, ignore the save files in game. You can delete/overwrite them if you wish.

Your Priorities

Personally when I play RPGS my priority is gameplay. I have played through many games with terrible storylines, characters, and plot coherency (Chrono Cross) just because I found the game fun. Let's get real. I like RPGS because I actually enjoy the battles. Though that's not to say a good story won't help. What makes Final Fantasy VII a great memory for me was its great story and characters. But it was also fun and I enjoyed that aspect of it as well.

Some games have both fun gameplay and great story. Some just are fun and still are worth playing. I guess what I'm saying is my priority is on the game because you know it IS a videogame. But if it doesn't have that grand/memorable story/atmosphere (extra something) then it might not be remembered by me for too long.

When I make games. I try to focus on these aspects in this order.

-Fun Factor/Gameplay
Always my goal. At the end of the day people want a fun game rather than an artistic adventure.

-Atmosphere/Mood/Music
I think this is what makes any game stand out. A distinct theme/feel. That's why Earthbound is one of my favorite RPGS as well. The atmosphere MADE that game.

-Story
Important but not the main aspect IMO.

-Other Things/Bells and Whistles
This comes last. I add what I feel may enhance the project as a whole. I don't have the whole game focused on this though.

Congratulations. I'll try to stick around. I hope this place gets the rm2k3 scene going back again.
