Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

The default VX shop menu is poop so I gave it a new coat of paint:

So I got a party of 12 characters and equipment that affects more than ATK and DEF which the shop focuses on. So I made the bottom window where it'll show the difference in stats if that character equipped that item. Since there's three accessories slot it'll also try to find an empty accessory slot to dump the test item into else it'll just use the first accessory slot. You can also view the difference with all characters by using the L/R buttons in VX (Page Up/Down on the keyboard) to pan the window left or right and show the other characters.

Since the old stat diff window was replaced I changed it to show the entire party at a glance of who can equip an item and if they already have it equipped.

Extra stuff like elemental and status resistance isn't shown at all but I'll settle for that for this game. Old equipment isn't shown either, I wasn't sure between that or showing the difference of a fifth stat and went with the less effort approach.

My internal approach was half-assed, writing to the window contents bitmap instead of using sprites with a viewport to represent the contents, but fuck it, it's the VX way!

also expanded on the buying items part as well because it looked really half baked

why does squenix keep putting shitty as-is mobile ports on steam? chrono trigger sitting at "mostly negative" within hours

that twitter links a "widescreen" prototype and that looks awful too! Is pillarboxing so anathema to some people?

why does squenix keep putting shitty as-is mobile ports on steam? chrono trigger sitting at "mostly negative" within hours

Clearly this must be why CT wasn't included on the SNES Classic

Save me from these winter blues

Sometimes I like to turn on music and look at pictures and let it churn in my head into a fictional setting:

Everybody gets around large distances via airships! Every fantasy setting needs air travel!

I got your hero, the warrior to save the realm:

I got your writing utensils when you want to get creative with the details:
kinda big gif

and I got your ultimate villain trying to unlock the secrets of the universe for ultimate power!

Better finished Hero's Realm HE quickly then so you can get back to working on this!

RPG MAKER 95

did somebody say
baldy's big day

maybe click this

(I have no idea why I have this saved, idr even playing it. I know way back in the 2k days I lost a lot of random files that corrupted a lot of RM projets I had on my computer back then because of windows shit and big hard drives so maybe that was the only game that wasn't destroyed?)

I also found this dumb incomplete turd made by somebody who makes dumb turds no doubt

[RMXP] Help with 'scope' for nil:NilClass

author=kyatonipu
Hey! First post on here and first time making a game in RPG Maker. I'm using XP, making a game for my senior project, and when I try to do a test battle against troops, when I use the 'Attack' command, I will very often get an error that is as follows:

Script 'Game_BattleAction' line 62: NoMethodError occurred.

undefined metho 'scope' for nil:NilClass

I have no idea how to fix this. My line 62 code in the Game_BattleAction section is as follows:

if @kind == 1 and [5].include?($data_skills[@skill_id].scope)
  return true
end

Can somebody please help me out? Thanks if you do!

This is because the $data_skills at index @skill_id doesn't exist. nil / NilClass is basically the "does not exist" value in ruby. For some reason the game is looking up a skill from the $data_skills array but not finding anything, hence a nil object, then trying to get the scope of the nil object which causes an exception.

My first guess would be you created a skill, gave it to an enemy, then deleted the skill by changing the size of the skill database. I don't know why it's doing that on a regular attack action though. I'm not familiar with RMXP to help out much more though, and it might be a script you added to your game that has a bug that's causing this too.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

It's because all I do is shitty incremental changes then quit doing anything for months and if I ever go back and look at it I just feel miserable over how little I've accomplished since my last post!

So here ya go:

- The old victory screen was poop because it'd only show the battle party members getting EXP and the bar would only fill up for one level. I changed it to show the entire party (since everybody gets EXP from battle) and the EXP bar will fill up multiple times if they get multiple levels and a few other minor things like not doing the tick sound if everybody is max level because nothing is actually ticking! There's no cool animated LEVEL UP text though, the exp gauge changes color, the tick is changed to something else, and the reported character level goes from 'Lv X' to 'Lv X+1'. Also Lv10 is now LvMAX.

- Did a new save menu, and by new I mean I just added some slots and animations in the menu for scrolling. Also auto-saves! The game now autosaves when the player enters a town or leaves a dungeon.

- More dumb shit: Enemies now appear in a little flash and sound and in a pseudo-rng pattern. Bosses get a red flash and appear last. I like it and it adds a bit extra when the fight start.

- Related to above, I changed how the RNG works. It is now seeded based on a shitty hash algorithm of the player's name when they start and the seed and RNG advances are saved and duplicated when the user loads a save. Also simply waiting will advance the RNG after a few frames in most cases (the update is in all Scene objects during the update but not all scenes call that update every frame). I have no idea why I did this it's because I was working on a seeded RNG bit for the above bit and I was watching NESCardinality's speedrun of Dragon Warrior 2 NES so I did this

re: Weapon shops. If getting weapons are in chests or related to RNG then shops might be good in case the player misses something, especially with some of the effects yours have. Permanently missing a ATK+5 stick isn't too bad (except for completionists) but if it's missing a healing rate up, or elemental resistance up, or X-killers the shops can serve as a backup if the player missed a weapon.
