Fuck I completely forgot about the skill challange (and we failed because we had four skill failures, only one of which was mine). I only get a quarter of the blame, thank you very much. :P
Also I might not be able to make it tonight. I'll try to post when I know for certain, but if I don't post don't wait up for me.

The Sword or the Pen: Your Character's Weapon Preference in RPGs
1) A wide selection of weapons, ranging from 'Force' to 'Burning'. Then again, there are no real weapon types in that game, just a list of silly names.
In serious setting land, its less colourful but it makes more sense. Ball 'n Chain, Spear, double Daggers, Stone Sword/Club, and a Swordstick.
2) Yeah. My "boy with not-sword" is more of a "boy who threw on a lot of armour and grabbed the biggest weapon available that can crush any opponent because that is obviously the best" so a sword didn't really fit with that premise.
As for the world of the future, I'm not too bothered by swords vs guns. Maybe I've played too many games that getting shot and taking some HP damage isn't really that bad. Its not like melee weapons aren't useful anymore (but they are lighter and easier to use than swords and only really work in certain circumstances, so I dunno)
If I ever do a modern/futuristic game and use a sword, I'd probably make it special in some way or something. Something akin to Lightsabers since those weren't bad at all (but I'd be damned if it'll be something stupid like a Gunblade)
3) Swords are the gentleman's weapon, weapon of nobility. You got your farmers with their spears and axes, brutes with maces, trained guards with halberds, ect. but it took men of gentle blood to use the sword. Plus it was the weapon of God since it resembles a cross if held upside down.
I dunno. I agree with Kentona that Swords=Awesomeness is part of our culture.

Last time, on Dungeons and Dragons (featuring no dragons or dungeons this episode!)
WAYNE KANE and his elf flunkies and the kendar person, having killed dragon people for pissing them off, went to loot stuff. The only loot to be had was a PC by the name of Oblin, a humanbasher fighter captured by the now dust dragon people. He was set free and forced into the party to pay WAYNE KANE & co. to rescue him joined up because that's what PCs do. WAYNE KANE + Oblin & co. headed towards the beach Darken Woods where we found Nick's character whose name I don't remember. After intense negotiation that went nowhere besides some cool threats the party was once again a group of 3 PCs and 3 NPCS. WAYNE KANE + Oblin + Nick's Character & co. went further into the forest where we found some Goblins led by the first couple Goblins in the first session. Combat ensued (they're just Goblins), and most of the Goblin EXP fodder was dead when Nick's character got them to surrender and 'join' our side and WAYNE KANE saved the day was the only PC that got bloddied.
So now its WAYNE KANE the BLOODIED + Oblin + Nick's Character + some pussy Goblins lieutenants + walking EXP Goblin fodder & co.
There is a dirty filthy lie in this recap. I'm not going to tell you what it is. (ps don't tell them Shadowtext)

CamStudio is what I use. Maybe you're trying to encode a video with a non-lossless codec while capturing it which is generally a bad idea. It'll be a while before I can get to it though (I still haven't done the D&D recap yet, sorry ST)
Problem with VX
I just had the same thing happen to me with RMXP. I just lost a whole bunch of copy/paste work as it wiped the Game.proj file (pointless data) and Scripts.rxdata (important data).
I did have a bad shutdown a while back, and I think its hard drive problems. Opera couldn't save its settings when closed and neither did RMXP, both of which I had open prior to the bad shutdown.
I know what hard drive is getting moved to "stuff I don't care about" status before long.

-It's really too bad that the Dreamcast sank when it did. It was ahead of it's time in a lot of respects; online support, VMU, awesome concepts for games, and even it's controller design. It was Sega's last great song, in my opinion.
(Plus the Dreamcast didn't have Segata Shanshiro as its mascot, who is the most fucking awesome mascot ever conceived)
author=Feldschlacht IV link=topic=1683.msg26603#msg26603 date=1218059736I don't think the most powerful hardware has ever won a generation war, at least post-NES. Plus I heard many horror stories about the PSP on its first releases (and Sony's then-usual headuptheass response) to the point where somebody threw their PSP against the wall because the DPad wasn't working and it fixed it.
-It kinda sucks that all of these great games are being released for the DS, when the PSP has much better hardware. I guess there's a good reason for it, but it still kinda sucks. Maybe I'm just not much of a handheld gamer.

Thank god for Megaman 9.
Still not sold on this. The Rockman no Constance MM2 hack was incredible and was a by far funner game than the later Megamans (and harder. God damn was it harder. Fucking Wily tank...).

tiny shrunk screenshots that makes it hard to see whats going on
I'd suggest uploading the full screenshots and having the smaller ones link to the full size ones when clicked on. Its too hard (and requires too much effort) to try and make much sense out of the shrunk shots.
Silver4Donuts: If you want it to look better don't use Youtube. Just about every alternative looks better than Youtube (like Viddler for example). Unless thats what it looks like when you capture and play it back before sending it to the Youtube bastardization encoder, then you need not-POS capture software.
*edit*
Maybe I'll do a tutorial about it, depending on free time. MMMM...
Game Design Discussion of the Week: Hey Assholes, Stop Giving Up.
Punch cards are bad: You need to keep them in proper order, they degrade easily, and the hardware for them is pricy. Better to buy a mess of ROM chips and program your game directly onto them, either via flashing it or soldering the logic gates yourself using super precision powers!
