That sounds pretty fun. I think I have a source of inspiration now!

Alright, here's my character sheet, completely lacking in any sort of actual character and more numbers and feats 'n whatnot. I'm a bit burnt out so I'll try to get an actual name (I'm not using Bob McGills) and background for tomorrow.

Did pointbuy with the stats:

STR 16 +9
CON 15 +7
DEX 13 +3
INT 9 +1 (from 8)
WIS 12 +2
CHA 10 +0

There's no need for headache with Foxit, go here: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/

Shadowtext: Yeah, I'm sure mine will be filled with errors too. It'll be a learning experience for all of us :P

Quiversee: Download FoxIt reader. Adobe won't let you edit the PDF.

Shadowtext: You made a mistake on your fighter pregen character for his fortitude defense. You can only add the higher of the character's strength or constitution modifier, you can't combine them. So his Abil fortitude modifier should be +3, not +6 giving him a fortitude defense of 15.

See page 17 of chapter 2 (the ability scores), left column, at the bottom.

(I'm not sure why I brought this up since its just a prefab character anyways)

There's a similar mistake on NoblemanNick's character: He has a +2 mod from his strength so his fortitude defense abil modifier should be +2 instead of +1.

Still picking away at mine.

Sweet, thanks. I'll post my character when I'm finished (which given my rate, will be late tonight at the earliest).

Question Shadowtext, how did you get the character info into the character sheet in PDF format? I've been scribbling my character down on paper planning on putting him into electronic form later and I'd rather have it pretty on a character sheet than something I'd probably do in OOWriter/Word.

(Also fuck you Chapters. What the hell is wrong with you?)

Game Design Discussion of the Week: Status Effects

One advantage to stat mods is that they can't be dispelled like status effects can, but making AI that can actually dispel buffs at the right times is a pain to implement so it is a moot point.

And didn't Rm2k stat mods have an upper limit? I don't think you can keep using Attack+20 over and over again until you hit 999 attack. Something worth checking out.

Game Design Discussion of the Week: Status Effects

Kentona's mostly right, but he did miss out on some effects like silence and blind.

I'm not much better at making good status effects. I've got a basic eight (nine counting being dead) which are healed by specific healing items or a general healing spell. Then the half/double effects. Everything that falls into the four categories (except Blind and Silence). I do use some more exotic status effects, but most are just combinations of the basic ones. For example, 'cnstrict' immobilizes a character and drains their HP, but you don't see it as often as the other conditions and it lasts a shorter duration too.

The real problem with status effects is balancing them. Poison murders high HP bosses (especially in Rm2k3 where any action counts as a turn), and the only counterbalance 99% of games use is to make it the bosses easy kill method or to have a 0.01% chance of getting poisoned. One alternative would be to have multiple poison status effects. One that does 10% of max hp damage, and one that does 1%. The 10% is what the player and regular enemies are vulnerable to, while the 1% is what the bosses are weak to. It is kinda cheating since the bosses are playing with a different set of rules than everybody else, but I think its a fair compromise of having bosses vulnerable to status effects and not get wasted by them.

Keeping File Size Down with MP3/OGG

There's a tutorial up on another website, RMXP.org maybe, can't remember. You use the WinVorbis utility to write custom tags onto your ogg file, titled LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH (in samples). I'll dig up the link

Found it: http://rmxp.org/forums/index.php?topic=46547.0

I'm going to fiddle around with this and see if I can get it to work. It'll be nice to get loops going with the lead-in intact.

You buy a PC / Notebook, you buy an OS

Really? HP? IBM/Lenovo? Do they have better prices than Dell?

After some shopping for a new notebook, I completely agree Dell is overpriced. All of Dell's notebooks cost more than other makes with similar specs. Hell even with a discount code for 20% off certain systems other makes were still better buys (unless a C2D T5850 over a C2D T5550 is worth $100)

I can't say anything about Desktops. I hear Dell is great for the extremely cheap builds (~$350 for a standalone computer) but that's it.
