Player's imagination in RPGs

Add in the sound of a Vicodin rattling in a bottle, and the occasion whack of a cane against flesh, and it is even better. :)

Well, to follow up, I havent been here long, but I'm sure your "retiring" somewhat from the rmn scene will provoque big waves.
Where in the world... Did you get this impression?

He thought Kentona was looking for people to sort of take over work rather than foster new work. Chana, I don't think he is planning on leaving or necessarily even cut back, just wanting to promote more quality work.

Commercial Personalities

So a lot of commercials these days have a character as a spokesperson. Many of these are very comical. For me, it makes a lot of commercials more enjoyable to watch. I even get excited when they come on television. So I thought I would mention what some of my favorites of those commercial personalities are and ask which ones you all love most.

1. Old Spice - The man your man could smell like
2. Allstate - The Mayhem Like Me Guy
3. Velveeta Cheesy Skillets - The wield your skillet blacksmith
4. Dos Equis - the most interesting man in the world

What other commercial personalities do you people love?

Suggest me board games

Settlers of Catan, Smallworld, and Dominion have all been mentioned already, but I will recommend them some more. All are fantastic. For Cardgames I have some new suggestions:

Fluxx
Zombie Fluxx
Nuts
Poo
Gloom
Guillotine

To further Shinan's point, people are willing to suspend disbelief even to really huge extremes as long as it is consistent. Again FF8 is a good example of how that can go wrong. As long as the crazy thing you include follows it's own rules throughout the game, no one cares, but as soon as it seems to defy itself BOOM!!! People get upset. So stay consistent.

Call to arms! For we are legion.

I second the request for someone to write an article on how to write a good review!

You have some options with that I think.

1. Hang a lantern on it, as you suggest. Draw attention to the fact that it would have made a lot of noise and your heroes are really lucky that it didn't.

2. Give a quick vague explanation at some point for why nooone heard you. For instance, the train has sound proof rooms. Or that they heard but the soldiers are supposed to always stay at their stations so that is why they did not come running.

3. Ignore it and hope no one notices.

4. Drop sleeping gas into the train first so that all the soldiers are sleeping deeply. They only wake up when they are violently attacked.

5. Give your heroes silent attack options. If they use the loud attacks penalize them with more soldiers or something.

Yep. That's what I think.

Call to arms! For we are legion.

I'll help out with reviews. I like doing it, and although I don't have a ton of time whenever I can I'll review a game that doesn't have a score yet so that I can be both a reviewer and sifter. :)

I agree with LockeZ on that particular seen. I don't think it is ambiguous. However, I do understand what you are trying to say overall I think. A better example is probably needed though. How about in Final Fantasy games when you stay at an inn and your health is restored and then you go about your business. Presumably you have stayed overnight but you don't see any passage of time. Or maybe something better than that is still needed. There are certainly things that we are just supposed to know and accept, and generally I think most games do that well enough even if they don't completely spell it out.

Help me compile a list of exemplary games

I think just listing all the featured games is... fine? It also limits the whining about why certain games are or are not on the list.

If people want more than 40 choices of games to download, we have a pretty advanced search tool that even lets you specify a minimum rating. Instead of manually updating an arbitrary list, maybe you could add more options to the search tool? Like an option to sort games by buzz score, or by number of downloads, or specify a minimum number of reviews.

Actually I have to agree with this. Entirely. Rather than have the potential for their to be an argument about who gets to decide what is and isn't exceptional or have any debate about it, more search options and perhaps even a more detailed rating system will allow players to find exactly what they are looking for without any difficulty. Maybe even make the search option more prominent on the front page if you are worried new members won't find it quickly enough. AMAZING SEARCH FEATURE! CLICK HERE! (Hopefully less ostentatious though.)
