Triple Triad is the reason why I have 400 hours on my FF8 save instead of 45 minutes
Same. lol.
Rpg Maker 2003 Item classification NOOB Question
See the big problem is I don't have a help file for my version of 2k3. I don't know if it just doesn't have one or if it is because I am on windows vista... But it sucks. I have pretty much had to guess at all the little things or feel like an idiot and ask online. :(
References in gaems
Although many references would add nothing but comedic value, I think there are plenty of comedic references that won't. For example, again in my name, I am attempting to include a variety of dark and creepy monsters that are stray somewhat from the usual rpg kinds. I am using Jewish mythology to do this. The jewish holy books are filled with all kinds of terrifing things or concepts from demons, to angels that work as the opposite of guardian angels, giant serpents, etc... and since most of these are not known in mainstream they will most likely not be recognized by the average player, but if someone does realize where they come from, it seems unlikley they would be amused by it. Still a reference, but not comedic.
[rm2k3] GUI bar
@wolfcoder
I am not sure I follow what you are saying exactly either, but basically you are splitting the work into multiple identical parts right? So if total hp bar is meant to display up to 200 health and we want it accurate to 10 hp... we would need a picture that represents 10 hp and then if we had 200 hp we would just need to display the picture 20 times one after the other?
Or if we want to be more accurate we have a picture to represent 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... and then tack that on to the end of our multiple images to make up the remainder... You used 8 pixels but it could be whatever. Am I understanding the concept correctly?

Rpg Maker 2003 Item classification NOOB Question
AHA!
@Liberty
Thank you so much! Those last four were the ones I was most confused about. The others are fairly straight forward. The "Unique" Item does look like what I needed. Though I don't know I would have guessed that from the name. And I see now what material does too. Thank you.
NEW QUESTION: If there are different translation versions would it behoove me to get a specific one for help topics like this? Or are they generally similar enough that it won't be too much of a problem?

Rpg Maker 2003 Item classification NOOB Question
Hmmm... I did not know there were more than one translation... This does make things difficult. Ok. The options for classification for making items for me are as follows:
Common goods
Arms
Shield
Armor
Helmet
Other
Medicine
Book
Material
Unique
Switch
@Versalia
So the use of a Switch item just changes a switch? I see. So instead of using an event to change a switch like normal you can give more player control to it. Perfect. Thank you so much. :)

Rpg Maker 2003 Item classification NOOB Question
I am working in RPG maker 2003 and have noticed that some things don't necessarily work the way they immediately seem like they would. SO... I was wondering if someone could please give me the run down on the different types of items.
More specifically...
What can be done with "Other" items?
What does "Material" do?
What is "Unique" about?
How exactly does the item as "Switch" work?
And what would I use to make an item give a TEMPORARY stat boost to a character?

Where did RPing go, and Why?

arcanum is fucking godawful
i don't give a shit about "RPing"/this topic but i feel the need to point out that it is a piece of shit "game" because yes it is a great medium for you to pretend to be a borderline-retarded orc who rips wolves in half, but not to have fun
You obviously feel very strongly on this matter...

I am actually looking to games, movies, poetry, books, friends, family, this forum, and my lunch orders for inspiration in my current games. For instance, I have decided that I want the game over screen to be a particularly depressing line from a fitting famous poem. Since my game is about vampires and werewolves, I have also decided that the Supernatural characters Sam and Dean Winchester will have cameo roles in a town or perhaps wandering in the wilderness somewhere. I will probably make a couple of references to vampire games or movies.
My thinking is that most people won't know anything about it so it won't effect their experience with the game in the slightest. BUT... for anyone who actually understands it, the entire gameplay experience gets kicked up a notch. It's just like children's movies and the little jokes that they include for adults.

Infinite resources? Or at least negligible limit to them?
I would definitely try to include as much role-play aspect as possible, while still maintaining a reasonable structured game. Give players choices that matter, let them design the characters they use, but at the same time make a cohesive plot that moves forward and continues to move forward throughout. The problem with some games with too much freedom is there is never really any reason to move forward. A game, even a tabletop game, is meant to have a goal or mission. That's my stance at least.
