WYRM WARRIORS! The Legend Must Go On!

I am surprised LockeZ didn't think of it first, because it's from Warcraft.

It's important to annotate your code! I'm working on some lockpicking minigames for SL: Riot Grrrl, this is the code that initialises the puzzles before you start them :)

The thing I'm working on now is over 6,000 lines now, not including white space. Not a single comment.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

I was doing some main menu stuff tonight and came to a realization that's probably long overdue. The functions I was connecting to my sub-menu elements almost always started with character select.

Open menu, choose Magic, select character.
Open menu, choose Status, select character.
Open menu, choose Equip, select character.
Etc, etc.

Why then, is the main menu not just a character select, with the sub-menus following that? So that's what I'm doing now.

While Liberty's screenshot doesn't reflect it, corners (in this case, where walls meet the floors) are darker than open surfaces because they are exposed to less ambient light. So you don't necessarily take window placement into consideration alone.

So I was thinking about those 'Focus' moves that a lot of RPGs have that do 2x damage for the price of not attacking for 2 turns (basically saving up Attack) and I go 'wow fukken useless rite???'. I mean, why not attack twice? BUT nobody ever things of implementing something like that in a game where enemy counterattacks are common and feared enough to want to eliminate them in as little hits as possible.

In the SNES RPG 7th Saga, the Defend command doubled attack power for the next round. Since the damage formula was subtractive you would perform more than twice the damage--far more if your attack was near or below the target's defense stat. And since this was coupled with the defend command, you also took less overall damage in the two rounds. This was neat at the time, but has the huge downsize of making a non-charged attack nearly useless by comparison, such that the charged attack is the de facto action.

I hope nobody relies on that clock to get to work on time, because there is only one place in the room it can be seen from.

Been working on a new RPG engine for fun/practice.

How does your avatar's hat stay on, Archeia_Nessiah?

How the Heck do you Design a Town?

To add another fundamental component, I think the critical objective should be furthest from the entrance. Not literally true, but the town should be structured such that the relevant data and material should be naturally acquired by the time you reach the critical objective. Dragon Quest games usually do this by making the critical objective the king, in a castle situsted just beyond the town's critical path which contains shops, inns, a church, and NPCs that set you up with the current scenario climate.
