Cameos from other RM games is fine, I wouldn't even recognise them.
Even Alex, Zack, Arshes, and Ralph? <3
Now that I think about it, those four together in one party would be made of win.

Personally, it all depends on who the cameos are and whether you can do them enough justice in their portrayal. A poorly done cameo is at best a turn-off, and at worst an insult to the character(s) in question; a brilliantly executed cameo, on the other hand, can bring manly tears.

Gameplay does not need a story, barely a setting and barely characters. Don't confuse RPGs with the general idea of a computer game.
This is RPG Maker we're talking, sir. The RMs can create games of all kinds, but I assume we're focusing on RPGs for this discussion since that's what the RM series excel at.
