LOTUS_GAMES'S PROFILE

For over 12 years, I have been creating my own video games and art. I started out by creating games on Microsoft Powerpoint believe it or not and then graduated to Rpg Maker and eventually to more advanced engines such as Construct, Unreal Dev Kit, and Game Maker. I have mastered Adobe Photoshop over the last several years and have become proficient in using Blender. I have a passion for creating, learning, and now teaching =]

I'm reworking the Mining/Harvesting system for my game Eden Gate. I am making the system real-time where before it was menu based. So I have 2 pictures here side by side. The only difference is in the indicator which lets the player know where they can mine for example. So I want to know which indicator you guys think looks better?

Nice shot Sana, the pillar to the left of the bridge is missing its top however. Also try playing around with shadows they can go a long way in making your map pop out and look even more interesting.

I can agree with what you are saying Lockez to an extent. I can only assume that if this is a capital of his world's universe than there will be plenty for the player to do in it. However even if there isn't you need to be aware of a fundamental distinction between rpg maker home-brew games and indie games to triple A titles. The later are made solely for the audience in mind and build revolving around what will make me money? Homebrew rpg games are made not for the masses but I think first and foremost for the creator. It's the creators vision and yes a niche part of the community will enjoy it but it's really all about what the developer dreams of and wants to enjoy for him or herself. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I approach my games atleast. It's me making my dream game not me making a dream game of another individual. I don't think in terms of generating revenue with my rpg maker games and what will people enjoy when I make this game. It's what kind of world would I love to live in? And I go from there. But in reflection I know I'm being subjective and so Large may feel the opposite with his game development and you with yours.

I disagree look at mmorpgs or games like GTA. The cities and towns can be really huge and I see nothing wrong with that. It's his choice as a creator to make the city as large or small as he wants to and it's your choice as the player to play his game or not. Large is living up to his name with his map =p As far as a layout goes it's interesting enough but it certainly does need more details in my opinion. I think adding more elements to the city would give it that extra something. Also giving your map shadows will make it pop out a lot more, it's a technique I use all the time and really helps add to the immersion and visual aesthetics.

I really like the eye candy Feld, my only suggestion is to re-make the ceiling tiles as they stand now, they stick out a lot and do not seem to fit.

Screen tint on battle animations

My advice would be to open your animations tab and create two versions of every animation. One for day time and one for night time. For night time, open the cel properties in your animations tab of the database by clicking a frame and than a cell. Change the color cast to match the night time tint and than click ok. Go to Mass Modify on the same tab and apply that color tint to the rest of the frames. During night time, substitute the day time animations for the night time and vice versa during day time.

That's how I would handle it but it can be time consuming depending on how many animations you have.

Also if you are doing a CBS and not a DBS than you can substitute sprites by clicking on the event command: "Change sprite association" this way you do not need two versions of a battle animation but can do all your animations using character sets and luckily the tint won't be an issue using this method....you can tint the screen whatever you want and it'll look perfect.

Ended way too soon, really nice trailer Tau. I enjoyed the atmosphere of you're maps. Very simple and clean look to all of them.

Or you could compromise at a middle ground and double layer the ceiling =p
