MILENNIN'S PROFILE

I create games because I enjoy gaming, telling stories, writing dialogue and drawing. Making a game is all of those things combined into one. However, my greatest passion with game making is designing battle systems that require thought and resource management within battle itself. I'm always looking into improving my skills, so if you've played one of my games, please do leave a piece of feedback on my page.

Lol, I'll add them patches of grass.

This time I got a town square map. The open space is needed for NPCs and some events that will take place on this map. There is also a Winter version of the map, because I thought it was cool (get it?)
Yes, you can go ice skating on the Winter version. :D

The town square map leads to four other town districts.

What if you start game development while giving lots of fucks, but then end up working so much on your game that you won't have time left to give fucks any longer?

Click next to the side you want the border to be. That's how shift-mapping works.

Ohh, that looks a lot better already. :D Man, shift-mapping truly works in mysterious ways...

The table should have a gate where you action key to open it. The average customer should be able to walk through (it's a store), the owner can.

I would, but I'm trying to do this with RTP only. The only edits I'll allow myself to make is re-locating tiles. But no edits or adding new graphics.

You could also put an event there that has the owner shout at the player for trying to go behind their desk if you don't have a gate graphic, or extend the table fully across the gap.

Lol, I like things like that in games. Though in this case, the player character is supposed to be the owner of the shop. :)

Fiddler on the Airship: The Best Traditions in RPGs

I love examining objects in the game world, especially if they have funny or informative texts.
I love dialogue between party members, because it makes them feel more than a bunch of chibi sprites I'm controlling to kill monsters with. At least if the dialogues contain some funny stuff or lead to something... if they provide something interesting for me to read.
I love boss battles with multiple stages or increasing difficulty when they get close to dying. Nothing is more boring than a boss that does the same thing throughout the entire fight.

@Milennin: You might want to invest in some shift mapping. For one - to join the carpet at the top and bottom of the stairs with the carpet actually one the stairs. For two - to sell the illusion of carpetting going behind the walls.

Personally I'd move the table in the middle screen up one so that it doesn't have the legs hanging over the edge of the wall like it does. Also not sure why there are baskets in the middle of the floor. You could probably move the table to that area and make the wall on the right a bit longer so there's a two-tile doorway into the kitchen area. You could also move the jar over to the wall on the left side of the main room and have the cupboard overlap it. There's space implied to be behind the wall so it would work. Also not sure why in the last map the chair is in the middle of the room when it'd make more sense to be where the table is.
With shift-mapping the carpet it removes the border on all sides and turns it into a bland, blue tile. I'd rather have it look like this than having no borders on the carpet at all (I guess).

I moved the table down like that, because otherwise it would obstruct the view of the one sitting at that table too much. I want the shopkeeper to have a good view over what happens in his/her store. The baskets are there because it's a store that sells stuff. Or should I place the baskets on tables?

Alright, 3 more interiors from me, these are the last ones, I swear. A church, grocery store and an inn. (the bucket of water in the church is used to wake up people who fall asleep during church service)

-long post-

The style of VX/VX Ace/MV is only good for drawing blocks. Deviating from that is doomed to result in failure.
Agreed. I think the VX/Ace/MV style is fine for very simplistic maps, but anything nice or fancy using the RTP just doesn't work out too well.

Thanks all for the feedback. I fixed up the maps, now that I'm thinking about it I included the following as screenshots for the gallery.
"Photo not found." for both images.
edit: Oversized, bland and empty. Should be way, way smaller than they're now. I'm assuming these are lay-outs only, because they need stuff in them, lol.

Alright, so for the prison I made this new version:
