Solar Tear Demo 2 v0.9

author=demondestiny link=topic=1417.msg22404#msg22404 date=1214792286
Yes, i've been playing this for a bit and i am quite enjoying it. The story is probably the best thing in the game so far. I would have to agree with Darken though on the difficulty of the battles, but i still find them fun. Anyway, i'll finish it when i have more time and try to get a review up for you. :)

Thanks man, I look forward to seeing a review! Too bad the story doesn't get a good closing off due to my lazy ass :L (I had some nice cliff-hangers add, but as I said, I didn't have the time before Release Something).

I'd play this if my RM2k3 didn't have the SUPER BOLD text problem going on. It seems like it's been like that since I installed RMVX.

Try downloading new fonts for RM2k/3 (either find it on your own or get someone who included the fonts in their game, for example Yeaster's Onyx) and replace the ones in Windows fontfolder.

that always works for me.

I went back to my apartment and listened to my messages, I have to meet some guy. Where is he? I'm sure Rebecca didn't say where to go, the city is quite big and I get lost easily.

Also I found one problem, at the start the hobo tells you to go left, I went up instead (yeah I brake all the rules) assuming there would be something secret, but a slime ran into me then the game got an error :(

Thanks for some feedback.

After the apartment, you can exit the shoparea to the right. You might want to do some shopping first however.

Hmm. That battle-related error was a common one. It had either to do with a bug in rm2k3 or just silly me not updating my scripts. It should not happen when you run into other slimes/enemies.

Edit: So far I'm really not liking the gameplay, the maps while detailed are really confusing on the eyes on where to go, the crates and stairs just BLEND in too much! Also the walk speed is super slow and annoying. Not to mention the battles are super hard especially when half the time I'm either poisoned or bleeding and have to apply healing items more than attacking.

Happi pie to you on your b-day.
I can certainly understand the battles; that's one thing I wasn't satisfied with at all, but if you're going for grinding, picking your battles is important. Aka, go for the scrapbots, sell the loot and stock up on healing items. But yeah, it's really lame.

The walking speed is... well, I tried having it faster, but the atmosphere just kind of dropped. I can assure you that most "areas" (dungeons or whatever) are pretty small and usually just one map, that is, minimal by RPG-standards, and therefore doable. Also, the enemies are kind of slow, so it's not a science to avoid them.

About confusing maps... Well, that's probably true. I might've concentrated too much to make everything blend in diffrent shades of dirt and wound up on just a mess of... pixels. Or something. Especially the left canals area, in the beginning.

Also; there are some optional ways to advance through the game at this point, so if you, as I do, hate the battles, you might just try another way. Depending on how you solve the problems that you might encounter, there will be a reward just further ahead into the game.

Solar Tear Demo 2 v0.9

Hey, since today is my birthday and due to the fact that I've yet to see proper input on my game, Solar Tear, I think that a topic saying "it's here and it's working" would seem like a smart move.

RPG Maker 2003
Don't know if you need the RTP to run it; I set the runtimepackageflag to 1, so if that's it, all files are included aswell.

In Short
Solar Tear follows the struggles of Rebecca; a young hacker living in the vast metropolis of New Haven. The city is basically ran by a large corporation called Nova.inc.

It begins when the head of Nova incorporated returns, from years of abscense. Also, the very man who attempted to murder him many years ago returns from the shadows, perhaps to finish the job? Who knows.

Features
Well.... it has a couple of original tunes? I didn't finish all the music I intended (mostly two or three more midis), so it's kinda limited.
There's also some crossroads, depeding on what you choose, you get a little diffrent progression in the game.
There is currently 1 whole sidequest (:0), two or three minigames/puzzles, and alot of secrets that are, in my opinion, nicely built in the... confusing terrain.

Apart from that... none?

Some Characters
Rebecca: The Game's main protagonist; as said above, she is a hacker and kind of suspicious, reclusive. Her skills involve scanning enemies for weaknesses and hampering opponents.
Ayla: Nosy streetrat; born and raised in the slums of New Haven. She knows the everything there is to know about this part of the city. She usually works as an escort through the more dangerous parts of the city and has offered Rebecca her services serveral times, although these were fruitless efforts.
Seth: A man from out-of-town, seemingly wanted by Nova.inc to a very large extent. He has struck some kind of deal with Rebecca.
Torres: Head of the Nova.inc that now returns after many years... not much is known about him.
Joshua: Martial arts fighter that resides within the slums. Despite his appearence, calling this man a thug is the least thing you'd want to do.

Version info and stuff
This is what I released for the Release Something! Day. Thus, it is rushed in some places and ends a little earlier than it was supposed to, but I still think I put enough work into it to be something resembling enjoyability.

If you're here to hoard my resources, I would recommend doing so unless you're absolutley sure that what you're taking isn't original stuffs. This goes for a lot of the charactersets, battlecharactersets, some tiles, some music and whatnot. Asking me what you're planning on taking, so I can tell you where it comes from or who made it (me or someone else) so that proper credit can be given, if it is needed, is kind of nice.

Credits (which I think I forgot to add in this version, sadly) goes to foremost
Dajhail
Eschalt
smallz

Anyhow, don't forget to tell me what you think.

How about a Play Something Day?

This is a great idea. I could do this, yeah!

Release Something! Day Discussion thread

Yes I heard so on the podcast, which was pretty awesome by the way. I fixed it like... a day later :L (it's on RMN now).

Hmm.. if I'm making a thread, then I would actually take the time a fix a few things I rushed towards the end of the demo instead, then I could make a proper release. And adding a few songs I didn't make on time either. So I might just do that instead.

Release Something! Day Discussion thread

I was hoping to see one of the, so far, eight downloads, step forward and make a comment on my hastely put-together game, but so far, I have yet to see anything.

Okay, I uploaded the game to RMN instead.

Release Something! Day [FOR REALZ this time]

Hay. I'm gonna be drunk all day because of our Swedish pagan traditions, so I don't have the time to wait for you guys to wake up. Or something, I don't know how this time-thing works.

This is...
Solar Tear
Aka the scrap I put together which I didn't finish.

Rpgmaker 2k3 game.
Probably buggy.

I haven't really worked for a few months since I just up until recently didn't have a job. And some gal I came across pretty much stopped my creative progress.

Anyway, besides pretty pictures, you'll be facing a key-bashing system and an incomprihensible plot that's borderline-cliché. Also note that this game is
true cyberpunkfffgadizdhgj dats right kids, NO magic, NO dragons, NO NO NO

haev fn... or try atleast. There will ocme a little explanationtext in the end of the game. so... 'phsdryhgjtaufhkyrfiuitfoyuhuk
