How willing are you to investigate?

Well now Feld, I would like to bring up Mass Effect again. Because I did the exact same thing you did in Deus Ex. I never really explored for gameplay reasons, even though getting loot and raising your paragon/renegade was addicting. I explored it because you're sort of just thrown into this huge galaxy that is presented really well. Not only that, but the choices you make for your character influence the events that happen, and your choices actually impact the story later on in the game. I think that's the key to making it fun, making the player feel like they're actually making a difference by investigating and exploring.

But as developers, it's very tough to do this. When teams have a really large world they have to develop, they split up into groups where one focuses on the investigating/exploring and the other focuses on the main story. Unfortunately we can't do that, so it's tough trying to manage this kind of stuff. Making an RPG sucks.

Screenshot Drama-rama!

Have you guys thought about redesigning that character? He's way too...blue. The color edit could be better as well, they don't match the style of the town screenshot.

The Fall of Civilization.

It's essentially the only piece of advanced (and ancient) technology left in the galaxy. It's hard not to spoil things, but it is also the main hub for the Reapers to do their "cycle of extinction", which is similar to the "reset" in Xenogears. The whole thing is more of an internal war, which is probably a little different than how you described Zeboim (the motives are certainly different). The ME universe is still developing with more novels and games coming out, but I think it's very inspiring even with half of the pieces missing.

The Fall of Civilization.

Funny, I was thinking Mass Effect the whole time reading that. If you haven't played it, you all should. The Citadel comes to mind when you explain the Zeboim civilization. Except the city is well populated and the main hub of galactic government.

You won't understand a word of that web page unless you have played the game or read the novels, but it is exactly what you are talking about.

And when the player finds out about the other ancient civilization in this game, you get more than an interesting ride. You get one of the best endings of a video game ever.

Yes, you plug in the second controller.

SHOW ME YOUR SCREENSHOTS - Fall Edition

Actually it should be...

1 2 3 2

since it's a parallel process.

A way to keep a picture moving while a message is being shown? (RM2K3)

You can't do it. That's why many graphic heavy games like Velsarbor did what Chaos just mentioned.

But I'm here so here is your solution. =D

"Normally, RPG Maker halts event processing at a show/move/erase picture command when a message box is active. This patch deactivates this behavior. So you are able to create animated faces and much more. Just run the patcher and patch your RPG_RT.EXE file."

SHOW ME YOUR SCREENSHOTS - Fall Edition

tardis, make the black emptiness the same color as the cliffs emptiness color.

Also, I will be a bitch and say that I would like to see some gameplay, bro.

An RM fighting game...

Edit: most of these characters are a lot more recognizable to the RM community I would think.

W...where is Lita LeCotta?

Just an fyi I don't know why whoever doing this is doing this. It will never be completed or done well.
And what Craze said.

Equipping In Battle [RPG Maker 2K3]

Create a skill subset and then make a skill for every weapon that ties to only that command. You can either keep the command on for the whole battle, or add it when he is out of ammo. Either way, have each skill be set to their own switch. Add or remove the skills depending on if you have that specific item in your inventory. The switches would tie to a battle event which would call the common event that checks what was used and equips accordingly.

By the way, your last sentence is correct. Do not even deal with the mechanic, especially in the default battle system. Even the method I explained is very clumsy and poor and there is no way to do it correctly. Leave it out, ammo systems are terrible.
