Ugh. I killed them all one by one using a box of kleenex.
Next time, use a spray bottle with detergent water. Apparently detergent water dissolves their exoskeleton and makes it so that they can't breath or something. All I personally know is that spraying them with this stuff causes them to spazz out for a couple of seconds before ceasing to twitch.
It's morbidly fascinating!

I thought some would be confused about sci-fi. Here is what it basically is (wikipedia).
-A setting in the future, in alternative time lines, or in a historical past that contradicts known facts of history or the archeological record
-A setting in outer space, on other worlds, or involving aliens
-Stories that involve technology or scientific principles that contradict known laws of nature
Essentially, other genres can be used in the realm of sci-fi. For example, Steampunk and magic from fantasy games are considered sci-fi, but you just have to have an explanation for the latter as to how that magic can occur. Make some crap up, basically.

author=kentona link=topic=3401.msg68827#msg68827 date=1238534671Yeah I know, I'm not talking about eliminating rules completely.
Contests and competitions need rules and boundaries and structure, though, otherwise it's just a free-for-all (and not really a contest) - there isn't really a base for objective judgment. I'm fine with vague goals like "Make the prettiest map" or "Make a puzzle" but you still need some sort of goal for the contest.
Past contests were generally bad and got bad reception due to certain themes and limitations (see the old map threads here). A theme is okay as long as it doesn't interfere with the graphics or outcome of the map, IMO. For example, having a forest theme or limiting it to certain tiles that you have to use limits what a user can create. I really didn't like the last contest that was here where we had to use that hideous forest tileset. There wasn't much fun in making something that is already compiled for you, plus it wasn't everybody's cup of tea.
I think sci-fi is cool since it allows lots of freedom and doesn't truly alienate people. I'd just go with Tau's suggestion. He sounds anxious to get started on the classic map making contest.
Onlive!
OnLive is a service for your computer or laptop where you'll be able to stream games (360, PC, etc) on their service. It basically eliminates the need for video cards on your computer, while providing a Steam like service of digital distribution (except its streaming). Of course your going to need a very good connection to get HD quality. The real question though is if their servers will be able to handle all of this when it actually gets released. Streaming a current generation video game sounds like an impossible task at the moment, but they have apparently done it.
They must have come from the future.
edit: actually I think it's PC games only but whatever. It's still pretty cool.

There is nothing wrong with them, Feld. They are analyzing things too much. =)
To clear it up though, they are thinking the barrels have a solid, hard top. In reality though, it's actually a cloth cover (which doesn't need as much detail in shading).
Also I am looking forward to exploring that place, Neok!

author=CloudVII link=topic=1013.msg68526#msg68526 date=1238357511What is your preferred method of stalking?? is it the old fashioned school hallway stalk or the facebook method? Both are smash hits but we recommend the latter.
I'm thinking about a game I'm making, and this girl I have a crush on, of course, She is two years younger then me and we've never met :P

Those who are in it for money do not have the will power or determination to win the competition...
Also let people map whatever they want. Allow more freedom this time by not having restrictions due to a theme or set boundaries. People can work with whatever they're good at, and we can all have fun. =)

Anybody Playing Street Fighter 4?
author=Mitsuhide_The_Vagrant link=topic=3222.msg65547#msg65547 date=1236488460He is number one top tier.
Isn't Sagat one of the top tier characters for SF4?
Other good characters close to him are Abel, Blanka, Seth, Balrog, and some others. Ryu is very good too and there are some people who are incredible with some of the other characters. It doesn't really matter who the top tiers are, really.
Dunno if I posted here, but I've been playing on live as well. It's pretty fun, so if you guys wanna play that's cool. I need someone to face my Blanka. 8)
New blood? Part Deux
author=Craze link=topic=3375.msg67874#msg67874 date=1237976387Well, you can't expect much. Since RM is 95% developers and 5% players, people are mostly concerned about their projects only. They don't have time to play your game or spread the word of its greatness because they're only concerned about their project receiving that status. A project will not get anywhere on these websites because there is no word of mouth (players are the ones who do this). Sure, a project may be featured on the website or on the forum, but this is a limited boost in recognition of a project. It's like having your game being posted for a month and then being deleted altogether. This is essentially your 10 minutes of fame. After that, if you don't have an alternative way of spreading your project, you're basically done.
MODIFY: I hate it when I can post a message in my topics (on multiple sites, not just RMN) that asks "WHY ARE YOU NOT PLAYING THIS GAME" and nobody responds.
http://www.rmxp.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=63197
This topic has more replies than my current game topic there (which has, uh... one reply, which is my own "OH HEY HERE'S A PATCH" bump).
I am not one to speak nor am I bashing the way things are done here or on any other RM website, but it is just my observation of being here for so many years.
Also what Anaryu said x100.
