NOVALUX'S PROFILE

Hey, Novalux here. I'm planning to make some games someday, if I ever get around to finishing them. I enjoy trying out others' games on rpg maker as well and writing reviews.

Stand-up Character

AS somebody who has tried endlessly to achieve it, what techniques do you use to separate characters from each other? As far too often I see my characters, and those from other works, either blending into one form, or using personalities so scattered that no one could possibly confuse them in 100 years (the quiet one vs. the loud one, etc). I would like to create distinct characters that have some similarities but can still be picked out from each other.

Deleting other events without switches? [VX ACE]

Is there any way to delete other events than the one that's currently running without switches?
EDIT: I'm using Rpg Maker VX ACE. Whoops.

Say for instance, I want to be able to have the player cut down a 2x2 tree (just one example). When cut one corner of the tree, I want to erase all the 3 other corners of the tree. As far as I know right now, the only way you can do that is to turn on a switch that makes all the other corners go to erase event.

But then that switch might trigger other things I put throughout the game, and what if I want there to be 5+ trees per map? Is there any sort of command that says "If event 1 is on, then run." or the like?

Tips from Ernest Hemingway... yes, Ernest Hemingway.

I've been researching a lot of tips lately about good story writing, because you need a story for a game and I intend on making mine story-heavy. It seemed like I just kept getting stuck in a rut most of the times that I began to work on my story, until I found these tips on openculture.com. Number 2 & 3 have helped me out a ton and the rest are great as well.

Here's the link: 7 Tips from Ernest Hemingway

Anyway, hope this helped you out like it did for me.

Game Ideas

I would like to propose a "game ideas" category, unless there is already a category in which these would go into (still getting used to the site).

How it would work: Each post would have to consist of an idea for one game, and it would have to have at least some substance to it (About 1-2 paragraphs) describing how the game would go, in order to filter out junk suggestions.

Why it's needed: Because there are many people out there with striking, brilliant, and original ideas for games. Yet many of these people do not have the skills or the time to develop these games. At the same time, we are experiencing a good amount of boring, generic games being posted. This is the result of a "skillset mismatch" of sorts. If people could post creative ideas for games in a category, never again would a developer need to fret over ideas for a game. As and end result, we would most likely see better games coming out of rpgmaker.net, something I'm sure we all want.

That's basically it. Sure it's different, but I really think it could work out good as well.

Anyone need help? Anyone?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm new to rpg making(although I have designed maps and levels in other games) and I haven't been doing all too well. I've read a lot of tutorials already (Almost 3 weeks' worth), but they haven't really helped out much past teaching me the basics of the program. Since I'm much more of a "learn while doing" type of learner, I figured I could try and help out whoever needs help making their rpgs, and learn the ropes that way.
The one caveat is that I can't do any artwork. Period. Other than that I can do decent mapping, maybe some story/ eventing and the like. Don't expect me to be strictly on schedule though, because of homework and some other things I have going on.

Edit: I'm gonna start working on my first rpg for a little while more and see how its turning out. If it turns out crappy, then I might do this for real. Sorry for any false advertising.

Novalux Here!

Hey, my name's Novalux and I'm new to rpgmaker (oh rly?). I'm hoping to make some games, play some games, and repeat. Its really awesome how many people are making new and (sometimes) unique rpgs and I'm pretty suprised that more people don't know about it. Dreamed about making games for a while now, and hopefully I can get started (If I can just figure out how to script...).
Anyway, if there's anything you should know about me, its that I'm a huge fan of pretty much anything Bethesda makes, and that I can't draw. Seriously, I've tried pretty much every way of drawing out there and I just plain suck at it. If nothing else I've been thinking up some unique ideas for games and want to see what they come out like. Anyway, I hope to see you all on the forums ;).

- Just found out the bot check wouldn't let me put in "maybe" for an answer :(
