[RM2K3] Changing Actor Battle Graphic Mid-Battle
Hey, thank you all! Sorry I didn't reply on Discord earlier, I've kind of been busy all morning, haha. I'm gonna give this a shot and see if it works! The battle animations are SUPER simple so I think I should be fine, I think something like this should do the job. :D Much appreciated!!
[RM2K3] Changing Actor Battle Graphic Mid-Battle
Heyo heyo! I'm working on an RM2k3 game for the Kill the Cutie jam and I'm trying to implement a sort of Kirby Copy Ability system. It's done by changing the class of the character to the ability type they're copying. The only problem so far is that I can't seem to find a way to get their battle graphic to change to the appropriate one after changing class; it only changes when entering a new battle. I'm using the official version of RPGMaker 2003! Does anyone have any ideas?

well, I didn't get my game page in before the 26th, so I'm not sure if I'll qualify for Kill the Cutie, but I'm still chipping away at it regardless!! I got the title screen done last night, which I'm super happy with.

It makes me so sad that that adorable character is probably gonna be horribly murdered in the end.
Aw come on Gretgor, maybe she'll make it out just fine! Who knows? :D
I got some custom speech bubbles going now, which is super exciting! I found out embarrassingly late into using RPGMaker2k3 that you can copy and paste Common Events across projects, so all I had to do was plop in the eventing I'd already done for a different project to get it to work. :D
@Giznad Woah, love the spooky ambience here! It's super cool seeing that kind of atmosphere on a title screen, I see a lot of foggy stuff like that here in Washington. Those structures look super interesting. Those colors are out of this world!!
@Blind I have so much respect for putting in all that wildlife! I've been trying to do the same with my projects, because having wildlife along with everything instead of only NPCs and enemies on the map makes areas far more interesting to look at and explore. It looks fantastic as always!

And yeah, it's really funny how that is! I haven't really met a ton of neurotypical creatives, funnily enough. Nearly all of the artists I know either already knew they were neurodivergent (like ADHD and the like) or found out they were this year. What a funky phenomenon! I wish I could tunnel in on hyperfocusing to finish my games, that would be SUCH a gamedev superpower, haha. Alas, I got too many ideas bonkin' around in my brain, so I'm glad I have some medication now to help me get my brain into high gear when I gotta get stuff done. XP
edit: ALSO also im glad you think I got a great radio voice too!! I had to rerecord so many times because I kept finding little areas since I have a tendency to speak too fast. I actually had a blanket over my desk and laptop the whole time while recording (for audio quality reasons) so it got real hot under there too, so I was trying to nail it all in a couple takes by the end. I think it was worth the effort!

Battle system is going well!! Trying to work out Copy Abilities a la Kirby in RPGMaker. I think it'll be fun! I want to make an enjoyable experience first and horror second, so it's been a fun balance to learn.
