What do you like about RPG Maker?
I mostly like eventing system. To this point all other rpg making programs I've seen either required full programming (I have nothing against RGSS-like API, just want to be able click-out basic things like messages, showing pictures, changing way screen looks (color and weather), and other things you can do with RM), or had very confusing eventing mechanism (like one in 001 game maker). If not for that small detail, I'd probably already move out to more advanced RPG making software like SPHERE, RPG Toolkit or RPGds.
For battlesystem I'd like you to have two options, for real-time on-map combat and turn-based, because from what I know around 50% of RM users prefer either. I personally like both, it just needs to fit game it is used in. For example one of my projects uses realtime (zelda-like) BS, while other uses standard, turn-based one.
For Browser Quest, I must say it's kind cool, but too short.
Also for features, I'd like to have:
- Ability to use several tilesets in one map, while
- Tilesets are unlimited (like in RMXP)
- Unlimited or very high amount of layers (32 at least).
- Layers working also for events (so I can have several event doodads on top of eachother)
- Ability to set collision box of an event, so it won't be only 32x32 if event is big and requires bigger collision box.
- Ability to edit graphics directly in editor, so I won't have to open another program just because one tile is a little off. It doesn't have to be PS-quality editor, just features that are in WinXP MS Paint (line, ellipse, rectangle, floodfill, pencil, copy-paste).
- Option for pixel-movement.
- Custom character and monster stats.
- When starting turn-based battle ability to either set pre-made monster group or set it directly inside start battle command, if that's battle that just happens once (e.g. boss battle).
Anyway, good luck with that, seriously. We certainly lack good RM except Enterbrain's one. And as we know, monopoly is a bad thing. I'd like to beta test, if possible.
Will this maker be free or will it be paid one?

Death of child too much for a game? How dark/mature can I go?
Well, in my game I'll too have death of kid. Though if it'll being actually shown depends entirely on action of player (my game has multiple endings). And if it isn't too much for YOUR (game's author) taste, then go for it.
Do you think Rockstar cares about what people will say? They didn't care with Bully, they didn't care with Manhunt and they certainly don't care with GTA series (even though IV and V are much more graphical, than say GTA2). The only thing they care is that game is fun to play.
If someone don't want to see it, then he/she just won't play game. Just put a warning. That's all.

Skill shop script? (VX Ace)
Adon, thanks. And I know I could do this with events, but setting items that player can learn would result in conditional branch mess. And god forbid, if I'd want to make more items accessible in skill shop, that screen can allow!
Skill shop script? (VX Ace)
Could someone write or point me to script that will allow me to make "skill shop"? I.e. place where character can learn specific skill by paying specific amount of money (=/= shop with scrolls). I know I could event this, but script would be more flexible. Prices should be settable via Notes section of Skill db entry.
Faceset help
...hello?
As I said those faces are too dinosaur-like for my taste. Besides they doesn't fit charsets (charsets have horns, faces have no).

Anti-doublepost safety
Could you add feature that will act as anti-doublepost safety? E.g. so users is unable to post two times sane post (like when he/she clicks several times Submit button or if he/she has sloppy connection that tries to send data to RMN servers several times).
So we won't have something like this:
User (2012-08-08 12:21:53)
So how about it?
User (2012-08-08 12:21:57)
So how about it?
User (2012-08-08 12:22:02)
So how about it?
Mind you, that actual ability to double post, if content is different, shouldn't be taken, especially when author wants to bump topic if no one replied and he/she was waiting for replies, or if author of last post has new info to share about subject.

I can draw, I guess...

RM Game as single exe
I can rip out graphics with Print Screen and CTRL+V
How about graphics with alpha channel? Or autotiles? Those aren't as easy to rip...
I can rip out audio with the appropriate recording software/hardware.
Trust me, is a hell easier to just copy BGM/SE file than to try to rip it off with Audacity. Especially if game is using SEs a lot and long, self-looping BGMs that you can't get beginning of. Even person who work with audio FOR A LIVING would have trouble with that.
Also using Cameyo it requires effort, but only of the game's author part (and author already took effort to make game). On user part you just double-click (or single-click, depending of Windows Explorer's settings) exe file and game just runs.
Also how about just preventing people from cheating, a.k.a. making event that gives player 10000 GP and best items every single time player is talking to it?
As previously stated, XP/VX/Ace's so-called encryption is so easy to break thru and make project editable... And 2k3 and earlier has no encryption.
RM Game as single exe
Another thing is that you can distribute it as single exe directly on your site. ZIPs/RARs requires actual EFFORT (thing that not everyone can afford), so installing app requires effort (and usually admin rights - no go if you want to play in library, etc.), while downloading and running single exe doesn't.
RM Game as single exe
Want to make your game into single EXE, as 'portable' version or just "encrypt" resources in RM2k3 game? Well, to this point only solutions you could use were Molebox and Thinstall, but I've recently learned about new, free solution for that kind of stuff called Cameyo.
It works basically like Thinstall (not sure if Molebox works in similar way), so if you can make 'portable' app in Thinstall, here you would be able too.
For those who don't know, I've wrote basic instructions.
Before we start though I'll tell you how this work. Basically Cameyo (or Thinstall, for that matter) takes two "snapshots" of your system: Before and after installation of program you want to make portable. Then it compare them and add modified/added files and registry keys to the package. When you are running portabilized app, those files are unpacked and reg keys are temporarily added to registry.
So you'll have to make "normal" installer anyway before you'll start portabilizing your app. Cameyo works fine with InnoSetup installers (catches changes correctly), not sure about RM XP/VX/Ace built-in installer solution.
1. First you start Cameyo and click Studio tab at the bottom. Then you click "Capture app locally".
2. You wait for snapshot to be taken (here's tip: Do it in windows installed in Virtualbox, because taking snapshot of system that isn't just after reinstall takes ages)
3. You are installing your RM game (or any other program, but here we are talking about RM games)
4. When installation is done, click "Install done" in Cameyo's window. It will take post-install snapshot and will present you window where you'll choose which exe file it should run when you are running your package (RPG_RT.exe, or Game.exe, not uninstall app ;)). Here you can also set where package will be saved.
5. Done, now you can run your game in portable form and you are safe that someone will rip out your resources (and in VX/Ace Audio folder is still unecrypted, also exitbrain's encyption is so easy to break...).
So why not WinRAR/WinZIP/7zip SFX archive? Well, you can easily extract them and rip resources out and if you'd use passworded archive, users will have to enter password every time they start game, which defends purpose of encrypted archives.
