The Warlord is more of an alternate Cleric or Bard than an alternate fighter. And if you want the Barbarian, Wizard's put up a preview of the class that they're playtesting for PHB2 now: http://www.wizards.com/download.asp?filename=368_Playtest_Barbarian.pdf
Say Nick--I think I'm going to try to make Fridays for now, if you don't mind. I'll probably be using Freedom Akta, but I might have an updated character sheet for her. If I don't have it by the end of the week, assume I'm using the old one.

Naming your characters
author=Asalieri link=topic=1644.msg36098#msg36098 date=1223294637Your audience. They're the ones who have to read and remember these names. Never use the exoticness of the setting as an excuse for dropping elements of the real world that make it easier for the audience to relate to the characters or concepts within. Don't drop real world naming or language rules unless it serves a purpose to do so, and I rarely see a valid purpose for doing so--the most I usually get is that the writer has invented his own language and has the rules for it written down somewhere....but I have never seen a valid reason giving for making up your own language for a fantasy world, either, outside of intellectual masturbation. So that excuse doesn't fly with me either.
Naming is the least of my problems this way. Who cares if you end up with wierd names?

author=Max McGee link=topic=2080.msg35987#msg35987 date=12232463051.) You can still play CN, LN, CG, and LE. It's just now they're not treated as game mechanics because all the game mechanics related to them were stupid, and no one could agree on the differences between them anyway.
I think this topic will also become a vector for me ranting abouthow unbelievably shit the 4th Edition rules areall the things in 4th Edition that piss me off, your mileage may vary.
Let's start with alignment. As far as I can tell, they've made the "Morality For Dummies" alignment system even more idiotic and restrictive be eliminating the possibility of being Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Neutral, Chaotic Good, or Lawful Evil. WHAAAAAAAAT? I didn't think they could possibly make Alignment stupider, but they did.
I'm sure these things along with the races and classes they removed will be SOLD BACK TO US FOR MORE $$$ but that doesn't make me any less enraged.
2.) They took out races that didn't fit the new spirit they were going for or that were basically useless. Barely anyone ever played gnomes, and while more people played Half-Orcs, they've come out and said that the reason for not including that they didn't care for the ugly backstory it implies.
As for classes....there are 8 core classes included here, (3E only had, what, 9?) which cover a lot of ground, and a lot of the "classic classes" that they left out they still hadn't figured out how to fit in the new system yet. They weren't sure if Druids were controllers or leaders or what, for example.
And then there are some that they're just not going to give us back because they're unnecessary. The new way of handling the Wizard means that the Sorcerer is basically useless as we knew it. It sounds like they might change it into something different for a future sourcebook, but you're never going to get the old Sorcerer back.
The weird things you do
Yeah, me too. Even with games I love. The Nippon Ichi games are especially prone to it, probably because I spend so much time on the (not-quite-)post-game stuff
The weird things you do
No matter the game, I always go to any "Options" or "Settings" menus before playing. It's like a compulsion.
Since I've actually got some income these days, I have a tendency to buy games that I have no time to play just because I support what the makers were trying to do. I've did this with Zack and Wiki, Okami, The World Ends With You and about a dozen others.

Cave Story Coming to WiiWare
author=yamata no orochi link=topic=2140.msg35801#msg35801 date=1223079800I wonder if they would use the Aeon Genesis translation? Pixel apparently supported the AG translation effort, so it's as close to official as it needs to be, and I imagine they'd be willing to negotiate....and it would greatly improve our chances of getting it.
So for those of you who haven't tried it yet, try it now! Or, alternatively, wait until the version for WiiWare comes out. I just hope they care to release it in the states!
On the other hand, I wouldn't object to a professional translation job if they wanted to spend the time and money on it.

author=brandonabley link=topic=2140.msg35768#msg35768 date=1223067347The press release about it said this:
Is this enhanced or anything?
Because it's . . . free . . .
I mean it's a way sweet game worth paying for but still.
Cave Story: This title is an action-adventure game with new, exclusive content and features created only for the WiiWare version.
But like you said, the game is worth paying for regardless. Pixel earned our money more honestly than a lot of commercial developers have.

author=yamata no orochi link=topic=2140.msg35619#msg35619 date=1222992552Oh freakin' A. I'm going to play the hell out of this. Like the guy in the article, I haven't finished it because I'm just not that avid a PC gamer, but this will be an excellent excuse to do so.

Natch.
Laxius Force (Laxius Power IV) released - priced at $15
Y'know, I actually like the business concept, though. Release a game or two as free games for everyone to play and see if they like, and then once you've got a fanbase, start making professional projects. Sounds entirely reasonable.
But I've never played nor had any desire to play this particular series. I'm just saying that I'm down with the "drug salesman" business model. "First taste is free."
