I used to play "Berzerk" on Atari 2600 in the early 80's. It is insane. Playing it was so stressful and intense. I guess some kids died playing it or something.

"Berzerk was the first video game known to have been involved in the death of a player. In January 1981, 19-year-old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack soon after posting a score of 16,660 on Berzerk. In October of the following year, Peter Burkowski made the Berzerk top-ten list twice in fifteen minutes, just a few seconds before also dying of a heart attack at the age of 18.

A Cracked.com article entitled "The 10 Most Terrifying Video Game Enemies of All Time" listed Evil Otto as number one, citing the two deaths attributed to the game and remarking that "he is possibly the only video game enemy in history to kill players in real-life" and "Evil Otto watched them die ... with a smile on his face."

Unfortunate that, on account of some occasional, minor friction it's so easy for you and others to forget the genuineness and earnestness with which various #shmup members wanted this site to succeed both as a quality game creation community and in terms of growth and pageviews.

We have observed RMN with particular scrutiny because it was created by a (former) friend and we believed it to be the most promising, last real hope for the RM scene we have participated in for a decade to thrive. One could try to make that case … that our humor has at times been self-serving and fractious, but don't forget that the bulk of #shmup frequenters acted chiefly out of vested interest for this little piece of cyberspace. When this interest seemed to be obstructed our perceived infractions have been directly proportional to our genuine dismay.

So, just because the site’s owner didn’t make your “improvements”, you (“we” above) felt it was your right to shit on others?

I love it when people try to justify bullying or abuse with some bullshit excuse about how they did it to help the person or community. There’s a group of people here who get off mocking the people they deem inferior, who don’t meet their criteria of quality, or simply those who are just too trusting and “bite”. Let me give you an example:

Yeah that thread was a real gem. How dare Holbert or Karusman get in the way of these Robin Hoods of Cool from making “honeypots” to weed out the slow. Holbert was right. Even if the prank wasn't a big "fuck you" to the site it was still a dick move to whoever made the sonic game. It's like jocks voting the fat and ugly chick to be prom queen just so you can laugh at the irony. But I guess it's ok cuz the school wouldn't let you do the 80's theme that you wanted (and would have made the prom totally awesome).
