I first got interested in RPG Maker after watching X-Play do a review of RPG Maker for the Play Station. Years later I found RPG Maker VX Ace and decided to buy it. My first RPG Maker game, Dragon Lancer, was approved by Deckiller and became available to download on January 15, 2013.

Game / Engine Count:

RPG Maker VX Ace = 12
Visual Novel Maker = 3
RPG Maker MV = 2
Ren'Py = 2
Pixel Game Maker MV = 1
Solarus = 1
Inform 7 = 1

OMG! Not Another Isekai

Ren'Py Lesson Plan (Teaching Children Programming)

I work at an ESL school in Taiwan. Every Wednesday, they have a specialty class. ie. science, cooking, knitting, yoga, boxing... The students choose one of these courses and learn it for 1 hour.

Last semester, I taught the students how to use RPG Maker VX Ace. This was actually very popular and the children liked it. I started off with mapping, then character creation, then made treasure chests and switches.

I want to note, the school doesn't have a lab. I use my personal computer and a projector. So every student would take a turn using my personal computer to do some work within this one hour. This presented some issues with behavior sometimes, as the other students would have to wait a while for their turn.

The same students will be returning this semester, so I don't think I can really teach them much more with RPG Maker VX Ace, that would be simple enough for a child to learn, especially for non-native English speakers.

I decided to teach Ren'Py this semester. I made a whole lesson plan, where the students can pre-write some stuff on paper, prior to using the computer. This is part of my attempt to break up my class into different parts.

Anyways, here's the lessons I came up with, if there's any suggestions.

Is AI generated art ethical?

There has been a big uprising in AI generated art. And a debate has started since some people have submitted their AI generated art to contests and have won. With little to no skill, you can use text prompts to have a computer create a piece of art for you. Some websites have outright banned AI art, due to it showing up all over their websites over user generated art. And AI generated art is a huge legal blackhole for who actually owns the art.

My art skill is none, but I was able to make these in a matter of minutes.

Zelda 4 isn't Link's Awakening after all!

#1 The Legend of Zelda

#2 Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

#3 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

#4 The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

#4 BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets

This is made by Nintendo, inhouse. Not a rom hack. Not like Cdi. For the full explanation, watch this video. (Note: Before today, I had no idea this game existed.)

The games that shaped who I am

When I was a kid I remember getting a Nintendo for Christmas. I once talked about this with my cousin a couple of years ago. He said that he couldn't remember what he got, but he remembered me getting a Nintendo. (For those yougins, a Nintendo is not a Switch, it's a NES or a Nintendo Entertainment System.)

I've played a lot of games, and these are necessarily not the best, but they are the most important games I've probably ever played. They shaped my gaming experience and probably changed me as a person.

The Trifecta

I didn't really have any good NES games and didn't really play games at home. My grandparents lived not too far away. They had a Super Nintendo (Also not to be confused with a Switch for the youngins...) And I would play games at their house when I went over there. And these 3 games really, really shaped me as a young child. That of course would be: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and The Secret of Mana. My childhood centered around beating these games. And I certainly beat them, more than once. I actually remember cheering when I beat The Secret of Mana. I had to use Nintendo Power magazine, but it was still an achievement. Actually, I think the other 2 games I knew how to beat because I watched my relatives play them countless times as well. You gotta be fair. I wasn't that old when I played these. Is it okay that I got help?

Fan Boy

So I went over to my cousins house in Vancouver. He has A Playstation (No, not a Switch, a Playstation, like the very first one ever made.) He was renting Final Fantasy 7. I watched him play. I made my own file and started a game. When I got home I went to the store and bought a Playstation and Final Fantasy 7. That's how easily I was convinced to buy a whole system; playing Final Fantasy 7 at my cousins house for a couple of hours. I got so obsessed with it, that I went on to buy every Final Fantasy game on the Playstation and Playstation 2. Ohhh... And it made me cry like a baby. I was a teenager. And Final Fantasy 7 made me cry. For years onwards I would defend Final Fantasy 7 to be the best game ever made. And I beat it by myself. I didn't use my dial up internet to look up a large text only strategy guide.

The Last Big Thing

So, what would put an end to me being a fanboy forever of just one gaming series? Well after my Playstation 2 broke -old model had disk tray problems- I decided to give the Xbox a chance (The original Xbox, not a Switch, stop bringing up the Switch, I don't have one.) Anyways, I played The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. I had never been so engrossed by a game or pulled into a world to that point before. And really, this has lead me to being the gamer I am today. I will seriously give anything a chance if I can just get the feeling I had in this game again. I chase this feeling. I crave it. But in reality, I couldn't be much of a gamer without the earlier stuff either. So, together, these 5 games shaped the person I am still today.

My 5 most important games:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Super Metroid

The Secret of Mana

Final Fantasy 7

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind

The forums have finally been deleted! (WIPs final wish)

Yeah, so what happened to all the forums? Is this the end of RMN? Or is Welp the only forum we ever really needed.

RPG Maker Unite - New Engine

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1650950/RPG_Maker_Unite/

I didn't expect this news in my feed today, considering the last RPG Maker engine dropped pretty recently. How is this different, well....

It's make using Unity. WTF, just happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ease of use of RPG Maker, no coding required still, with the power of Unity.

My question is, will games made with this engine be royalty free? Because of the Unity thing. That's my only concern right now. The rest is just shock and awe.

Edit: Can we now use RPG Maker assets in Unity???????????

Windows 11 [Update - Ridiculous Min Requirements]

The hype is real, maybe?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11

Anyone with Windows 10 should be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free, but should you?????????????????????

As with any new OS, it will usually come with some issues. And as a PC gamer, you have to wonder how some very old games will perform, if at all, on this OS. (RPG Maker 2K3? etc... might need to watch out too.)

I didn't really think there was going to be a new Windows and am not sure weather I want this new update or not.

What are your thoughts.

Edit: see my next post down below about the new details.

[Poll] Sub Vs. Dub

Hello, men of "culture." It's time for the all time anime debate of all time.

Which is the best way to watch anime = sub or dub

Sub = Watching the original Japanese anime with English subtitles.
+No cut content.
-You have to read.

Dub = Watching the English translation.
+You don't have to read.
-Can sometimes be censored / cut content, but....
+Can add additional content.
-Voice acting can be terrible.

Game Page Bug

Yesterday I made some changes to my game page =
I marked it completed
I added a download
I changed some text in the summary

Today I noticed that the download button was gone, but it had been there the previous day. I managed my game and set it as main download.

Then I noticed that some of the text in my summary was the old text (ie. saying the game was still in dev.) I just thought that maybe I hadn't updated properly...

But then I noticed that the game wasn't marked as completed, so I decided to check my notices...

Apparently some stuff I did to my game page hadn't been saved properly???
Not just hadn't been saved, but was okay, but then reversed to the older version.
