My academics, charm and courage levels are the same. Huh.
You better start studying, schmoozing it up and streaking across campus to build them!

Ahhhhhh wall of numbers. This is really difficult to look at, especially on top of a super-busy background image.
Plugging Along

I might actually use this for a game I'm working on, which is intended to be similar to Persona (school setting and what not), but I haven't decided yet, heh. :)
Ooh, interesting. I like the school time-management theme. This was really just an excuse to throw some working script up :D I've done a bunch of stuff like this from scratch. It all adds up to pretty moving parts without a lot of playable game time, haha... But, I'm doing little stuff like battle animation enemies, so monsters are animated etc. POLISHING STUFF OFF!
I also feel like posting on RMN and checking it too often is counterproductive to getting stuff done. It's not worth the amount of time I would spend discussing the exact amount of indentation to use on dialogue lines instead of actually writing that dialogue. Input can always be gathered up and used to polish it up later!
Teamwork: Skillsets for your party of 4 (or more)!
I feel like this article just repeats basic concepts from multiple other articles.
http://rpgmaker.net/articles/293/ A much more detailed list of battle roles, not only applicable to enemies but heroes as well;
http://rpgmaker.net/articles/4/ Brickroad's vastly more detailed study of the same topic;
http://rpgmaker.net/articles/27/ Kentona's study of the same topic;
http://rpgmaker.net/articles/177/ Craze's article on unique skillsets
etc

@mellytan : such a definite and LOUD opinion after playing 10mn ? I don't think so.
I absolutely and completely think so, people make up their minds pretty quickly if there is a very strong first impression from their point of view. Sorry that it differs from yours, but 15 minutes is the time window that was given to ye olde "Pass/Fail" tests for whether or not a game would hold the tester's interest. Clearly this was a fail for someone else.
Nobody is trolling but somebody is definitely fangirling

Those are all valid points but if it is such a huge waste of time and everybody else is doing it wrong and making you look bad, why are you even here? Why don't you write an intelligent article about point #2 that will be featured and display the "proper" attitude toward game design more prominently, instead of popping into peoples' topics to tell them how pointless they are? A staff member recently enlightened me that just because someone else's design philosophy or tactic is different or inferior to yours does not mean you need to go out of your way to shit on it. If the topic is so pointless and such a bad reflection on the RM Community then you should gloss over it as it is so obviously beneath you and not fruitful to participate in. Belittling other people in your community does not help it look better, either.
I agree, it's the same topic every time and it is stupid and just do some Google-fu already. But I didn't feel the need to stop by just to say that because it would just be shitting on someone else needlessly. posting in pointless topics to inform people that they are pointless is pointless, tonight at 11
Now everybody read Strangeluv's post and absorb the wisdom within it, then go on to peaceably ignore threads you disapprove of while using said wisdom to mak galmes.

Umm...What?
I was pointing out the absurdity of Strangeluv's comment. I can understand the "lol this topic again" attitude but the OP is a newbie to designing, legitimately asking for some advice on which engine to use. Which engine to use is one of the biggest decisions you can make when starting a project, esp. if you have never mak gam before. It seems so trivial to those of us who are more experienced and/or jaded from hearing the same conversation topics repeatedly, but that doesn't mean we need to be obtuse douchebags about it. Dismissing it as "who cares just make games" is quite silly when the actual tools you'll be using to DO that are, again, one of the biggest decisions you make in pre-production.
Your choice of engine impacts your entire production process. If you feel that discussing it is a waste of time, don't bother posting in the discussion.
edit: to reply to the post below without posting yet again: "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" ... not EXACTLY what I was going for but okay I'll take it, but don't expect me to hold myself to that exact quote :B

Who cares
Just make games
seriously fuck all these designers actually deciding on the important difference in qualities and cuts of silk vs. satin vs. cotton vs. polyester vs. wool that will define their production process and massively impact the finished product
just grab a barrel and some suspenders and you're gold
or something
What are you thinking about right now?
Boss Survival GO

Hm, how about a boss that has a few minions that 'share' the damage. Basically they take the brunt of the damage (if two then about 40% each and the boss takes 20% of the damage) but the boss keeps healing them - say about the same amounts as its damaged. So if in one round you take off about 200 damage, that means each minion gets hit for 80 each whilst the boss takes 40 damage. It then heals the minions for 40 each turn.
When one minion dies the boss and other minion take 50% of the damage each, the boss would heal more to their last minion but take more damage as well. And if the minions have a small heal spell themselves, but limited magic stores, or deal blind and stun attacks (not paralysis because that's just cheap) to stop the damage...
Then when it's the boss by itself it casts auto-regen, and starts to lay out the hurt.
I'm so making this.
this is in edifice (celebrina and her two flames)
in fact, everybody play edifice just for the bosses. Someone above mentioned enchantment-stealing and that is another boss' major special attack etc
